Chapter 52: Pain

Lara POV.

Saint Maria gathered intense yellow light in her hands, and a golden radiance enveloped all of us.

"Deus det nobis fortitudinem." (God grant us strength.)

Andras’s face twisted in rage, but the minions didn’t wait; they charged at us with empty eyes.

I’m guessing mind control, but I can’t be sure.

One minion suddenly appeared right in front of me; I swung my sword down from overhead with full force.

But Andras used the opening, materialized before me, and kicked. Hans leaped the same way and slashed his sword.

All he managed was a scratch.

"Get out of the way!" Victoria shouted.

Hans was trying to hold him off.

But he got hit too.

The closest one, Julius, jumped elsewhere, and a massive iceberg appeared above Andras.

It fell on him like it was proving gravity.

But Andras caught it like a child’s toy.

"HAHAHAHA IS THAT ALL YOU’VE GOT!" he roared, but Julius—

Without pause, a magic circle formed in his hand: "EXPLOOOOSION!!" An explosion followed.

The ice melted and turned everything into mist.

Penelope was dealing with minions from the side.

The mist made it harder.

Andras just blew lightly, and all the mist scattered.

Even that gave Penelope time to cut down a few minions.

Saint Maria was keeping her distance.

Waiting for the right moment.

"Oh, poor little things. Trying to beat me like this, you’re nothing but ants."

I looked at Hans; he shook his head, and like we’d planned, I attacked from the right, he from the left.

I swung my sword right to left with everything I had, but Andras caught my life-force blade.

The same happened to Hans’s mana sword: "BLOW HIM UP NOW!!!"

In the corner, Victoria and Julius—who had escaped into the mist—stood side by side; magic circles appeared above them, one blue, one crimson.

The circles merged.

5th-tier spell:

"Cold Hell."

"Cold Hell."

Julius and Victoria shouted together, and faster than we could see, a spear made of dark fire-like magic pierced Andras.

We released the mana swords and got away. Andras flew back several meters.

Black aura completely covered him.

"AHHHH, you insects." He was screaming from the black aura, constantly freezing yet burning at the same time; it was the opposite of fire.

Penelope saw the chance and leaped at Andras, but got slapped and fell from the peak.

"PENELOPE!" I screamed, but she was already gone from sight.

From an unseen distance, several arrows pierced Andras’s eyes.

Only 3 minions remained.

Andras shrieked: "YOU PATHETIC CREATURES, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING? I SWEAR I’LL EAT YOU ALL FOR DINNER!"

He pulled the arrows from his eyes and started regenerating.

Insanely fast regeneration, but Saint Maria had an angel appear behind her.

She had been preparing this holy spell since the fight began.

"MICHAEL, GRANT DEFEAT TO GOD’S ENEMY!"

A handsome male angel stood behind Maria.

A gigantic sword made of fire came down on Andras from above.

"DIVINE JUDGMENT."

An explosion.

Everyone flew back.

The shockwave covered the entire forest in gold.

The minions were obliterated by it.

After flying several meters, we all fell to our knees as saints, blood pouring from our eyes.

He had gone beyond his own limits.

That materialized sword was 50 meters long.

The black aura covering Andras refused to let him regenerate.

But we were all exhausted.

"MARCO, YOUR TURN!" Julius shouted.

"EAT EVERYTHING! BEELZEBUB!!!"

A gigantic shark-like thing leaped onto Andras’s head and sank its teeth in.

Andras dropped to his knees, looking completely drained.

But then demonic energy surged: "I’LL KILL YOU, I’LL KILL YOU!!! HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT ME!"

The aura around him vanished.

His wings spread wide.

I saw madness in his eyes, then he raised a finger: "Begone, insects."

That was the last thing we heard.

A sphere of black energy formed and came straight at us.

"SHIELD!" I yelled.

Julius, Victoria, Marco, and finally Lucas—who had been shooting arrows from afar—all poured their magic into creating shields.

Then something visible even from miles away happened.

The shields shattered. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

We couldn’t stop the weakened black energy.

Everyone collapsed unconscious.

Only I remained on my knees.

"You’ll pay for what you did to my friends." I’m losing it.

This bastard has to be here; he has to die; he has to die.

An enormous life-force sword reached the sky. Andras looked terrified, but as he charged at me, a sonic boom rang out.

An arrow that destroyed the sound barrier itself struck Andras right through the heart, and the clouds behind him vanished.

A moon-piercing arrow!!!!

That was definitely Artemis.

Seizing the chance, I brought the sky-reaching sword down on Andras.

Golden light covered everything, and the mountain peak disappeared...

After that explosion, I’m sure everyone was flung somewhere, but since I know life force, they’re still alive.

I’m certain of it.

The last I saw of Andras, one leg and one arm were gone, and another person appeared in front of me.

I reached out, but he turned his back and winked.

Raul...

Raul POV.

Damn, that lunatic just erased the entire mountain peak.

Penelope almost died.

Andras is definitely an equal-opportunity bastard, even to women.

Good thing I watched from afar.

Marco and Lucas were smart.

They attacked from range and waited for openings.

Victoria and Julius did well, too, but the MVP was definitely Saint Maria.

’The saintess really lives up to her title, sis... she managed to summon Michael...’

It went as expected, but right now, Saint Maria was in critical condition.

I watched their fight from a spot high up where they couldn’t see me.

I eliminated the rest of Andras’s minions.

Because Andras is a parasitic demon, he takes the souls of his worshippers and plants seeds. You can’t kill him without killing the minions first.

Even though his main body holds most of the power, if he escaped with the minions, it would be the end of the world.

He’s one of the weakest demon gods, yet he caused this much damage.

He toyed with them like dolls with consecutive spell explosions.

If Artemis hadn’t fired her arrow, it wouldn’t have ended badly for the story, but they’d all be in comas for months.

But Lara grew stronger in this fight and finally understood the gravity of things.

When everything was finally over, I descended and looked at the crawling Andras and Lara facing him.

I winked.

Hope she feels better.

I slowly approached Andras; he was still alive even without a heart and would heal in minutes: "Hey Andras, you don’t look so good."

"Human, fuck off, or the moment I get up, I’ll start by erasing you." Andras’s heart regenerated in that time, but since his head was an owl’s, I grabbed his feathers and punched him.

That single punch transcended space-time; Andras’s face deformed, he coughed blood: "How dare you..."

His healing factor kicked in even faster.

I waited one minute, and finally he stood up, coughing blood: "Clearly you’re not human. Aren’t gods restricted by worldly laws?"

"I’m not a god," I said, but an angel appeared behind me.

Gabriel was grinding her teeth: "Why did you have to join Lucifer, Andras?"

Andras’s eyes widened in shock: "Gabriel!!" He looked terrified.

Even I flinched because a mace appeared in Gabriel’s hand.

She walked up to Andras and swung the mace into his stomach: "How dare you sin against God? Even if you did, why didn’t you repent?"

Andras clutched his stomach and spat more blood.

But Gabriel didn’t care; she struck his head, and Andras staggered back several steps.

Gabriel spat at Andras: "I’m ashamed of you. You deserved this. Today, you were nearly destroyed by a human girl."

When Andras tried to speak, he saw Gabriel’s furious face and shut up.

Finally, Gabriel stood beside me: "He’s weak right now, fresh to the world... let me handle the rest."

Gabriel glanced at Andras one last time and stepped back.

Andras couldn’t even regenerate anymore.

Thanks to Saint Maria’s move and Gabriel’s hits, he had no regeneration left.

"You disappointed me," I said, looking into his eyes.

Andras dropped to his knees as if forced by some power: "You don’t deserve what was given to you, Andras. Now begone."

I placed my hand on his shoulder.

Then a pitch-black aura enveloped Andras and began flowing into me.

"AHHHHHHHHHH!"

Andras was seriously deformed.

First, his skin burned, then his muscles slowly melted away.

Now only his skeleton remained.

I took the head of the skull and tossed it into my subspace.

Andras’s soul was now mine.

"Happy now, Gabriel?" I asked, but the angel inside me was completely furious.

The saintess was hurt because of Andras, and right now, Gabriel was worried about what would happen to Saint Maria.

While everyone was unconscious, I sighed, green light poured from my hand, and all of them who fought against Andras began to heal.

They just needed their consciousness back...

And with that, I vanished from the scene once more.
