Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 99: Sisi’s New Home
Kael descended from the summit to the palace rather quickly as Sisi kept screaming. He mischievously picked up his pace while making sure she stayed steady on his back.
It was safe, but for a human like Sisi, it was a terrifying experience.
Once they arrived at the palace grounds, Kael put her down.
However, Sisi’s legs trembled and gave out beneath her. She nearly collapsed to her knees before Kael caught her by the waist and sneered, "How weak. Why are you scared of going down the summit? With me by your side, you’ll be just fine."
Sisi shot him a glare, but the Beast King feigned ignorance and merely gave her a taunting grin.
"If you can’t walk on your own, how about another piggyback?" Kael offered.
Sisi tried to push against his chest to separate them and said grimly, "Next time, I’ll climb down that summit on my own. You scoundrel!"
Kael laughed with full mirth. It was rare for him to see this side of Sisi, and it only made him want to tease her even more.
However, his laughter didn’t last long when he realized that everyone on the palace grounds was watching them from afar.
Kael cleared his throat and said, "Come with me. I’ll guide you to your living quarters."
Sisi straightened her posture when she realized she was being watched. Once again, she didn’t want anyone to get the wrong idea about them. She didn’t want to make enemies, nor did she want to be entangled in the Beast Kingdom’s royal court.
She was merely Jojo’s temporary caretaker—someone who would eventually leave this place, remain chaste until her death, and possibly become a nurse in the orphanage.
As she followed Kael through the palace, she noticed that the guards, passing servants, and many others kept staring at her as though she were a strange yet fascinating creature.
It made her uneasy, and she couldn’t help but ask, "Do beastmen here never see humans in their lives?"
"This kingdom is located deep within Roc Forest," Kael explained. "It’s practically untouchable by humans. Even if some manage to reach this area, they wouldn’t dare fight the beastmen in here. We’re far more aggressive than those who’ve had contact with humans near the forest’s edge. So yes, you’re probably the first human they’ve ever met, and rather a fascinating one."
"But I don’t see much difference between humans and beastmen when they’re not in their beast forms," Sisi said. "The only differences are the tails, ears, and a few other details."
"It’s not just that," Kael replied. "To them, the fact that you, a female human, can survive this deep in Roc Forest with Jojo already means you’re not ’just a human.’ They assume you must be very strong, despite your appearance."
"Hey, what do you mean ’despite my appearance’?"
Kael halted and looked Sisi up and down for a few seconds before grinning. "You look... cute, and harmless. I’ll admit that much."
Sisi scowled, feeling insulted. She had never thought of herself as cute. Harmless, perhaps, because she had been malnourished as a child and was smaller than the average woman, but cute?
No one had ever called her that before, so she assumed Kael was mocking her.
"I’m sure your concubine would appreciate being called cute. You should try it," Sisi said.
That single sentence wiped the grin off Kael’s face.
He grumbled and silently led her toward a courtyard with a conspicuous gate. At the top hung a plaque carved from oak wood.
Queen’s Courtyard.
Sisi frowned when she read it, and her frown deepened when she stepped inside and realized that the courtyard was... extremely fancy.
It was spacious and, compared to the rest of the palace, likely the most beautiful area of all.
A pond sat in the garden, filled with colorful fish swimming lazily beneath the water’s surface. With spring approaching, several early-blooming flowers had already been planted, their buds promising full bloom when the season arrived in Roc Forest.
There were three separate buildings. The largest stood at the center, clearly the main residence, as evidenced by its size and the intricate carvings crafted by beastmen artisans. Sisi had never seen such a carving style before and guessed it belonged to a culture unique to the beastmen deep within Roc Forest.
The two smaller buildings on either side appeared to be maid quarters, as Sisi spotted several beastmen servants entering and exiting them. Each knelt briefly before Kael before returning to their duties, maintaining the Queen’s Courtyard so it would remain grand, even though the Beast King had yet to take a queen.
"Uh... why are we here?" Sisi asked. "I thought you’d bring me to a hut, or at least a room. Am I supposed to live with the maids?"
"Are you stupid, or just slow?" Kael snapped, visibly annoyed by the suggestion. To him, it was an insult. In his heart, Sisi was far more than Jojo’s caretaker.
She was Jojo’s mother, at least she acted like one, and Jojo also saw it that way, even if he hadn’t realized it yet.
He knew it well, he just refused to admit it aloud.
"This is your courtyard," Kael said firmly. "You’ll live in the Queen’s Courtyard."
His tone left no room for debate.
"The maids will take care of everything. Since you’re human, some foods may not suit you, so you can ask them to request whatever you want from the chef."
He continued casually, "The courtyard’s spacious too. If you’re bored, you can walk around the garden. If you want anything changed, tell the maids or the gardener. We even have a skilled mole gardener."
Before Kael could go on, Sisi cut in sharply. "Kael, this is the Queen’s Courtyard!"
"And?"
"What do you mean, I will live here? This place is meant for the queen—your mate! What will your subjects think if you let a mere caretaker stay here?!"
Sisi was genuinely angry. She had promised herself she wouldn’t become involved in the royal court.
But by placing her here, Kael was putting her directly under everyone’s gaze, inevitably dragging her into political struggles she wanted nothing to do with.
