Chapter 214: Chapter 214: Sprout New Bud

She followed her instinct by closing her palms, completely covering the dying faerie inside with the warmth coming from her hands.

Then she closed her eyes and prayed to her grandmother, the ancient tree that was the beginning of all faeries.

’Oh Grandmother, listen to your darling’s request. Sprout a new bud from the soil, heal this faerie, and bring him back to life.’

Everyone in the pavilion witnessed how her palms began to shine, and flowers began to bloom from the gap between Sisi’s fingers.

Once she opened her hands, the faerie soldier who had been on the brink of death slowly opened his eyes and stared at his beautiful darling in disbelief.

"Am I... in heaven?"

Sisi chuckled. "No, you’re back on earth, little soldier."

The faeries were amazed by their darling, even the elders who had a lot of experience with the previous darling.

It was the first time for them to witness a darling who could bring a dead faerie back to life. It was also a sign that their long-missing darling was a very special case who had incredible power.

General Gugu was terrified when he remembered how he had attacked on sight despite his darling’s protest. So he quickly kneeled in front of their darling, followed by the rest of the faeries, including the faerie soldier whom Sisi had just brought back to life.

"Glory and beauty to our darling! We, the faeries, have arrived to your aid!" General Gugu greeted, and the rest of the faeries followed by saying the same thing in unison.

Sisi sighed seeing the faeries who became docile after she intervened. She knew that the faeries meant well, while Kael was not wrong either.

It was she who caused the misunderstanding.

"The young faeries told me that all of you would arrive by the morning. How come you’re already here?"

"Everyone refused to rest until we could find you, darling. We really miss you, and we were afraid that something bad might have happened to you, since we knew this kingdom was erected by a cursed being," General Gugu reported. He glanced warily at the Dusk Star who couldn’t see them. "It seems that the report is true, that you are being held captive here, darling."

"That’s not true at all," Sisi retorted immediately. "I am not being held against my will. I am willing to stay here to take care of the Dawn Star, Jojo, and also help the Dusk Star take care of the kingdom."

The faerie elders and soldiers were shocked by such a bold statement coming from their darling’s mouth. They didn’t know if that was the truth or if she was being forced to say it.

Their darling shouldn’t be weak, proven by how she could bring a dying faerie back to life.

But why would she willingly surrender herself to these cursed beings?

Sisi knew that it was impossible to convince her fellow faeries about the situation, because of the long-held belief that these cursed beings were meant to be avoided at all costs.

Besides, it was already very late at night. It was time for her to go to bed and hug Jojo until dawn.

She looked at her surroundings and then pointed at the tree where she had built a swing for Jojo before.

"All of you should rest for now, since you just went on a long journey to the north, right?" she said. "You can rest in that tree, and we will meet again tomorrow in this pavilion. Remember, do not do anything until I give you a command, understood?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"Understood, darling!" all the faeries replied in unison, and they flew to the tree their darling had pointed at.

The night was cold, and the tree hadn’t bloomed for spring, so there were no flowers or fruit for them to eat or rest in.

But the faeries still followed the instruction no matter what, since it was a direct order from their darling.

Sisi sighed in relief now that she was alone with Kael. She turned toward him and smiled. "Thank you for controlling yourself. It must be annoying since they kept attacking you."

"Honestly, I was so close to swatting them all," Kael admitted. "But I don’t want to upset you."

"That’s good, because I’ll be really upset if you kill any of them. They are my... little ones, after all," Sisi said. "I had to heal the one you accidentally swatted just now. Luckily I could, though it seems to have taken a toll on me. I feel a little lightheaded now."

"Then let me carry you back," Kael said as he got up and carried Sisi in his arms. "I still have a lot to say to those faeries, but let’s give you a rest for now."

"Mhm. Oh, before you bring me back, can you go to the tree first? I have to help my faeries," Sisi said, and Kael obliged.

The faeries were sitting on the tree branches, rubbing their hands together to warm themselves up.

Sisi looked at them with a smile and touched the tree bark with the tip of her index finger.

The tree suddenly had a growth spurt, with all the flowers blooming and some fruit appearing ripe and ready to eat.

"You can rest inside the flowers for now and eat some fruit if you want to. See you tomorrow morning, little ones."

"Thank you, darling!"

"Darling is so kind!"

"Ahh, it’s been a few days since I’ve slept in a comfortable flower!"

Sisi giggled hearing the faeries chattering happily. They might be wary of Kael, but they were still very respectful of her, so they dared not do anything.

But what about tomorrow? What if they refused to help Jojo because he was also a cursed being? Or maybe they didn’t even know how to help him at all?

Sisi felt her worries were justified. As she was carried back to the main chamber by Kael, she rested her head on his strong chest, feeling the warmth radiating from his body and listening to the heartbeat beneath his chest.
