Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 209: A Man’s Sincerity (II)
"Tomorrow? How fast..." Sisi muttered. Though she was happy that the help Jojo needed would come sooner, she was also scared of what the future would become.
But one thing was for sure, whether she wanted to return to the faerie land early or late, she would still have to leave in the end. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
The trio of faeries sensed their darling’s worry, but couldn’t say anything because they were actually expecting their darling to go home with them.
As Sisi was busy thinking of the unknown future, the door was suddenly knocked on softly. She turned her head toward the door and asked, "Who’s there?"
"It’s me."
"Oh—?" Sisi got up from the bed. She checked on Jojo first, and after making sure the boy was asleep, she walked to the front door and opened it. She saw Kael standing tall in front of her with a solemn look, as if he had something important to say. "It’s kind of late, Kael. Is there something urgent?"
"Has our boy fallen asleep?"
"He’s sleeping like a log right now. You can even hear his soft snoring if you get closer," Sisi chuckled before returning to the topic. "So, what’s the matter?"
Kael grabbed Sisi’s hand and said, "Come with me to the pavilion."
"The pavilion? But it’s late at night. Wouldn’t it be more comfortable to talk about things in here?" Sisi suggested, but Kael simply gave her a pleading look, as if he would be hurt if Sisi didn’t want to go with him.
Usually, Sisi was very stubborn even about the smallest things. But she remembered how this might be the last time she actually had time alone with Kael, so she gave in and allowed him to guide her to the pavilion.
As they walked side by side, Sisi couldn’t help but ask, "Is there something important you need to tell me? I haven’t heard of anything big happening in or out of the palace from Diane so far."
Kael tightened his grip on her hand and said, "I have a surprise for you."
"Oh?" Sisi raised her brows. "Now you’ve got me curious."
"And I hope you’ll like it," he added as they walked through the well-maintained garden and entered the pavilion together.
The pavilion didn’t have any source of light at night, so it was pretty dark once the sun began to set.
But tonight was different. When Sisi entered the pavilion, she saw a bunch of fireflies dancing around the area, giving it an adequate source of light for them while also making the pavilion feel... serene.
"This is so beautiful," Sisi muttered as she followed the fireflies. "How could you get these fireflies here? I thought they only come during summer."
"They are a unique species called snow fireflies. They come from the far north and are only active from late winter to early spring. Otherwise, they go through their breeding cycle until it’s time for them to emerge again," Kael explained with a thin smile. "I had them bred by the palace’s gardener because Beast Kingdom is located in the north, which is significantly colder than the other areas in Roc Forest, so regular fireflies wouldn’t appear here."
Kael helped Sisi sit on a chair while looking at the flickering fireflies. He stood right behind her chair and continued, "This is the first batch of snow fireflies in our kingdom. So you are the first one to witness it."
"I am honored, and yes, they are beautiful," Sisi said with a smile, but that smile slowly diminished as she tried correcting him. "Kael, you shouldn’t say this is our kingdom. It’s yours and Jojo’s. It’s not right to make it seem like I am part of it."
Kael ignored her correction. He simply continued with his effort to win her over.
He walked around her and knelt right in front of Sisi. As he lifted his head, he stared at her with sincerity and took out something from inside his cloak.
"When I was in my old pack, I heard from the female wolves that a man should give his woman something precious to show his sincerity," he said. "At that time, I didn’t really understand the meaning of it. Why would they want something so useless like gemstones, gold, or other meaningless trinkets? But now I understand that it’s not about the value of the item, but to measure how serious a man is about his woman."
"And I want to show my sincerity too, Sisi..."
Sisi said nothing as she saw a beautiful ring with twelve flower patterns circling it. There were also twelve gemstones, each of a different color, embedded in each flower.
"These gemstones are picked from all over the world through the trades I made. One from Roc Forest, Jing Forest, the Arctic, and many more. There are twelve of them because they represent the months in a year," Kael explained while sincerely staring at Sisi. "I know that we’ve only met not long ago, but I am constantly thinking of you—twelve hours during the day, twelve hours during the night, and twelve months in a year. They represent how you’ll never leave my mind and my heart, Sisi."
"Kael..."
Sisi could only mutter his name softly. Her body was trembling as Kael tried to put the ring on her finger.
"Please accept this ring, Sisi. This is made for you, and only you," Kael said as he slowly slid the ring onto her finger.
However, right when the ring was about to settle at the base of her finger, Sisi suddenly pulled her hand back, and the ring slipped from his grasp instantly.
Kael lifted his head, staring at Sisi in disbelief. He was disappointed, but what shocked him was actually her tears.
Yes, Sisi’s tears began to fall from the corners of her eyes, down her cheeks, and wet her lap.
"Sisi?" he called her name softly.
"This... this feels so wrong, Kael," she said in a shaky voice. "Why would you show your sincerity when I’m about to leave the kingdom? Do you not know how hard it is for me?"
