Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 189: Ruela’s Reward (IV)
"Under the authority of the venerable Beast King, I, Vestor, the Nation Advisor, hereby declare Ruela from the Silvertooth Pack to be rewarded for her merit, as she saved the Crown Prince from an attack that almost cost her life!"
Vestor was reading a scroll on the stone platform that Kael had used yesterday to announce the Crown Prince and the future Beast Queen during the spring festival.
There were at least more than a hundred beastmen civilians gathered at the capital square, curious about what was happening since the King’s advisor showed up with many guards and none other than Ruela, who was the Beast King’s concubine.
"Her rewards will be as listed: twenty soldiers and a high-ranked commander to guard her house, twenty servants, and a sum of gold to keep her well-fed and maintain her new house.
Aside from that, Ruela of the Silvertooth Pack will be freed from her responsibility as the concubine of the Beast King and will now work as the Crown Prince Jojo’s spokesperson to the public.
Our future queen, Mistress Sisi, has also bestowed upon her the title of Ruela, the Lady of the Dawn, as a reward for her merit. She will be addressed as such by everyone, and her honor will not cease even after she gets married.
This announcement has been approved by the Beast King and will take effect immediately."
Vestor finally rolled the scroll and looked at Ruela, who was standing right next to him on the stone platform.
She was staring at the masses, who were shocked by the announcement.
Of course, never in a million years would they have expected Ruela to rise from a mere concubine to become a noble lady on her own.
Every lady in the capital city thought that Ruela’s life would turn upside down and she’d suffer when the Beast King announced his future queen.
The king was adamant about it too, making sure that everyone knew there was no place for Ruela in his heart.
But her luck was just too good—she became the Lady of the Dawn now and the spokesperson for the Crown Prince, basically cementing her status so that she would continue to be held in high regard until she died of old age.
Ruela saw traces of envy in some women’s gazes, and she couldn’t help but sneer. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
They really thought she had it easy, but only she and those who stayed in the palace knew how much of a mess she had been after Sisi came into the picture.
Nevertheless, she was grateful for Sisi’s help. She was amicable and just. She gave punishment and reward accordingly, and Ruela couldn’t have asked for something better.
"Thank you, Sir Vestor," Ruela bowed politely toward Vestor, and the latter gave her a thin smile.
His thoughts about Ruela were really complicated. He disliked how foolish and rash she had been, but he also admired her clarity at the last minute.
She could have allowed her servant girl to kill the Crown Prince and the Future Queen.
But she didn’t and decided to protect them, even if it might cost her life—or in this case, it had already cost her the beautiful voice she once had.
And that was more than enough for Vestor to know that Ruela had a noble heart.
Vestor turned toward Garou, who stood right behind him, and said, "Go and bring your new noble lady to her new home. Treat her well and train a soldier to replace you in a year, Garou. This is the order from the Beast King and our future Queen."
"Yes, Sir!"
Garou offered his hand and helped Ruela step down from the stone platform to enter her carriage.
He also entered the same carriage, as he was her personal bodyguard and had to stay close.
Ruela watched as people lined up on the street to see her carriage being escorted by twenty heavily armored beastmen soldiers. She truly had become a noble now—the Lady of the Dawn—a path she never knew was possible in the first place.
"No need to think too much about their opinions," Garou said as he also noticed the envious gazes. "Mistress Sisi has bestowed a great title upon you. Isn’t it good that you don’t need to live as a sweeping maid anymore?"
"Mm, I’m grateful for her virtuousness," Ruela muttered. She turned her head toward Garou and lowered it slightly. "I’m sorry for dragging you into this mess, Sir Garou. I did not expect Mistress Sisi to make you my bodyguard."
"No, no, it’s fine," Garou clarified immediately. "I was a little annoyed at first. But this is the Mistress’s order, and I’m glad that she finally entrusted me with something."
Ruela smiled thinly. "You seem to like the Mistress very much, Sir."
"But of course!" Garou confirmed without hesitation. "Mistress Sisi is a peerless gem. Not only is she gorgeous, but she also has the great qualities of a leader! She’s a complete package!"
"You... probably shouldn’t say that in front of the Beast King. He’s pretty sensitive about our Mistress," Ruela warned.
"Tsk, why is everyone saying the same thing? I am not in love with Mistress Sisi. I just want to stay by her side and protect her with all my life! I just want to admire her beauty and magnanimity! You get it, right?"
’Isn’t that basically love?’ Ruela pondered.
But she could only nod weakly as sadness crept into her heart.
No, she wasn’t jealous of Garou’s obvious bias toward Sisi. She was just sad that no man had ever felt that way about her.
She was never special. The only man who treated her well was her late father, Jor, the previous Alpha of the Silvertooth Pack.
’Maybe one day, there will be a man who loves me unconditionally. Even if I’ve lost my beautiful voice. There will be a day when I can finally marry the man I love.’
As the carriage drove through the street, it finally turned toward a big house a little farther from the capital square, but still within the Kingdom’s walls, which continued to expand as more and more beastmen came to become citizens of the Beast Kingdom.
