Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 175: My Brave Boy
The first thing he wanted to do once he reached the kingdom was check on Sisi and Jojo. Though he knew the palace defense was nearly impenetrable, he was still worried about them, especially now that Jojo was blind.
Kael wasn’t worried about Jojo’s blindness, though. He knew it wasn’t permanent, and he guessed his son had regained his sight by now and that the golden eyes were gone.
’Why are you so sure that he’ll be fine? Didn’t you have a constant burning sensation under your skin when you first awakened your power?’ the curse mentioned. ’I bet your son is in constant agony right now, wishing he’d die rather than suffer through it.’
Again, Kael tried to ignore this chattering box of nonsense inside his head, but he couldn’t deny that he grew a little worried about Jojo.
Thus, he hastened his pace to reach the palace sooner, so he could make sure that Jojo and Sisi were alright.
As he entered the kingdom walls, he noticed a crowd gathered in the capital square. It was still very early in the morning, but it was already packed.
In about two hours, the capital square and all the surrounding roads would be full of people celebrating the spring, especially after such a grueling winter.
This was the first festival Kael was holding, and he should be present at the opening. Showing his face would boost the morale of the beastmen civilians.
But Kael wasn’t in the mood for that—at least not until he reached the palace and checked on them.
Once he entered the palace grounds, he ignored everyone’s surprised looks and went straight to the Queen’s courtyard.
However, once he entered the courtyard, the atmosphere felt... wrong.
Every guard and maid he passed looked tense, and they quickly lowered their heads out of fear when Kael glanced at them.
He finally found Diane, the head maid, near the maid building and stood in front of her.
"Diane, tell me what is wrong here. How are the Mistress and my son?"
"Ah—" Diane hurriedly bowed and said, "Welcome back, My King. Mistress Sisi and the little prince have been inside the main chamber since dawn. They are unharmed, if that’s what you wish to know."
"Then what’s with the atmosphere? Why is everyone so tense?" Kael pressed, knowing something major must have happened while he was away.
"...My King, the Mistress and our Prince were attacked yesterday—twice—by the same attacker," Diane reported.
"Who is that attacker?" Kael asked grimly.
Diane could see the murderous aura seeping from the Beast King’s body, making her feel heavy as her instincts screamed at her to flee.
But Diane held her ground and said, "The attacker is... Leah, Mistress Sisi’s personal attendant, My King."
That name struck him like thunder on a clear sky. He remembered stationing that unassuming maid to guard the door while he was away, thinking she must be trustworthy since Sisi had chosen her.
Little did he know that was the beginning of disaster.
"Leah attacked the unconscious Mistress and the little prince right after you left, using a kitchen knife, but she was stopped by Ruela. Then at night, she tried to burn down the main chamber. Since the building is fireproof, we caught her in the act," Diane continued. "Mistress Sisi sentenced her to death last night, but she escaped."
"Escaped?! How in the— Who was in charge of guarding the palace last night?!" Kael demanded.
"General Pell and Young General Garou, My King," Diane replied honestly.
Kael gritted his teeth. He would deal with these incompetent generals and find that bitch who dared to hurt Sisi and Jojo later, but for now, he needed to check on his family.
He went straight to the main chamber, leaving Diane surprised because she hadn’t warned him that Mistress Sisi’s mood was very bad right now.
’Will there be a quarrel between them later?’ she wondered.

Sisi was feeding Jojo his breakfast, since he would make a mess while eating in his current condition.
However, she kept getting distracted by the idea of Marik helping Leah escape, even if it was just a what-if scenario.
On top of that, she was still angry at Kael, and with every second he didn’t return, her anger grew until she felt she might explode at any moment.
Jojo sensed something was wrong and asked, "Sisi, are you okay?"
"Oh—I’m fine. Why do you ask?" Sisi replied.
"I don’t know... you just feel angry, Sisi..."
"Feel angry?" Sisi chuckled. "You’re just imagining it. Don’t worry, I won’t be angry at you, Jojo—unless you put your life in danger, of course."
"But what about Daddy? Are you mad at him?"
...
"You should finish your breakfast, Jojo. Then we can go to the pavilion to get some fresh air."
"Un!"
Jojo happily ate whatever Sisi fed him until he was full.
He burped once and patted his belly. "I’m full, Sisi!"
"Alright, that’s enough." Sisi sat Jojo on the wooden chair before going to the bathroom to wash her hands.
When she returned to the main chamber, the front door was already open, and Kael stood there.
His tall, muscular figure blocked the sunlight streaming through the doorway, but he appeared unharmed.
He stared at Jojo’s golden eyes in disbelief. Then he turned toward Sisi, and all he could say was, "I am sorry, Sisi."
"D-Daddy? Is that you?" Jojo asked as soon as he heard Kael’s voice. "Daddy, where are you?"
Kael immediately picked Jojo up and carried him. He hugged his son tightly and kissed the top of his head. "It’s okay, Jojo. Daddy’s here."
"Daddy..." Jojo tried his best not to cry in front of his father, but remembering all the pain and fear he had endured since yesterday, he began sobbing. "Daddy, I... I did a good job. I protected Sisi from danger yesterday!"
"Diane told me everything," Kael said, caressing the back of Jojo’s head. "You did well, Jojo. You’re truly my brave boy."
