Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Take Responsibility

"Jojo will eventually find a mate and build his own family. He might remember me once every blue moon, but I’m sure I’d just become a distant memory by then," Sisi said.

"Then how about me?"

"Huh? What do you mean?" Sisi asked.

"Won’t Jojo forget about me as well once he’s matured enough?" Kael asked. For a moment, Sisi caught a glimpse of vulnerability from the otherwise mighty and impenetrable king. "I’d be lonely too as I grow older."

"You can always find a concubine, right? I’m sure there will be dozens of women lining up just to share your bed. You can also take Ruela back if you want to, I never told you to dismiss her in the first place."

Kael started to grow frustrated. He didn’t want to spell it out loud, afraid of scaring her. But at this point, his impatience began to leak through, and he wasn’t sure how much longer he could keep up this charade.

Left with no choice, he withdrew the vulnerability that had accidentally slipped from his heart, and his gaze hardened.

"I don’t think you can simply leave, Sisi. We wolves are different from other beastmen," Kael said coldly. "We imprint on our families, ensuring we can always find each other—even if separated—with just a single scent."

"I-is that so? Jojo never said anything about it before," Sisi muttered. "But it makes sense since you can detect Jojo even if he’s so far away."

She was caught off guard by Kael’s sudden hostility, but she maintained her usual calm.

Sometimes, she couldn’t read what was going on in Kael’s mind. Even when he wore his heart on his sleeve, his mood swings were still shocking to her.

Kael’s gaze darkened, dissatisfied with her answer. "Then why do you think you can leave us?"

"I... I just think there’ll come a time when Jojo truly forgets about me once he has his own family," Sisi sighed. "I have no family, so—"

"But what about me?" Kael interrupted. "I have no family either, Sisi. Once Jojo grows up and takes the mantle of Beast King, I’ll have to retire." His voice dropped. "Do you think I want to spend my remaining years in some shabby cave, dying alone and in agony?"

"I-I already told you, you can find a concubine—"

"I don’t want a concubine!" Kael snapped, his patience finally exhausted.

Sisi sounded like a broken record, repeating the same answer again and again. He hated how she was either truly dense or deliberately avoiding him.

And the more she tried to evade him, the stronger Kael’s urge became to make himself unmistakably clear, because Sisi was like a slippery eel that refused to be caught.

"Do you think you can escape after my son has imprinted on you?" Kael asked. "Do you know that he will see you as his mother for the rest of his life?"

"I-I didn’t know that..." Sisi muttered honestly.

She truly didn’t understand the concept of imprinting—it didn’t exist in human society. Or at least, not for an orphan like her, who had never experienced growing up with parents to imprint on.

"Then you should know this," Kael said quietly. "Jojo has imprinted on you. And so have I."

Kael leaned closer.

Sisi tried to push his chest away, but the Beast King was far too strong.

"K-Kael, back off—" she struggled, retreating until her back hit the bedpost.

Kael grabbed her wrist and pinned her in place as he leaned even closer.

Sisi tilted her head back instinctively, her heart pounding like a war drum. Kael’s scent, and the heat radiating from his bare, muscular chest, made her thoughts blur.

She wanted to tell him to stop, but her body felt weak and her mind hazy. She didn’t know if this was an aftereffect of her long dream with Grandma Tree, or if the man in front of her was the cause of this intoxicating sensation.

Kael wasn’t offended by her reaction. In fact, the way she exposed her slender neck, veins visible beneath her thin skin, stirred something feral within him.

He could smell her more clearly like this. And perhaps because desire had already taken hold, he didn’t even notice the faint scent of rot that usually lingered around her.

Kael tilted his head slightly, his gaze lingering on her nape.

Once he claimed her, he would pin her down and bite her there, ensuring her body would recognize him as her man while he thrusted in and out of her with his thick rod.

Kael could feel his loincloth tightening. His size was already majestic when he wasn’t hard, but when he was hard, it would be impossible to hide.

Yet before his instincts could completely overwhelm him, Sisi suddenly spoke.

"K-Kael... what do you want to do?"

Kael snapped out of his thoughts, but he didn’t retreat.

Instead, he leaned toward her ear, brushing her earlobe lightly with his lips as he spoke in a voice that was gentle, yet undeniably domineering.

"Both my son and I see you as part of our small family, Sisi," he whispered. "So take responsibility, will you?"

"T-take responsibility... for Jojo?"

"And for me too," Kael said.

Sisi had always expected to care for Jojo until he grew up.

But never—not in a million years—had she imagined being responsible for Kael, the powerful Beast King whose strength was unmatched in all of Roc Forest.

"If you refuse to take responsibility," Kael continued softly, "then I’ll have to separate you from our little family—including Jojo. He can’t love a mother who would leave him on a whim."

Sisi didn’t know when—or if—Kael had truly imprinted on her. She still believed he might be lying.

But she couldn’t bear the thought of being separated from Jojo, not while he was still so young.

So she asked quietly, "H-how do I take responsibility?"

...

Kael fell silent.

Each passing second felt like an eternity to Sisi as she waited, her body tingling restlessly.

His lips remained near her ear, his warm breath brushing against her skin.

Just as she was about to push him away again, Kael finally spoke.

"You can take responsibility..." he said slowly, "...by being mine, Sisi."
