Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Her Position In This Palace

Meanwhile, an unassuming wolf maid hid behind a tree, watching everything unfold.

Leah had been trying to attend to Mistress Sisi since dawn, but she had been repeatedly brushed aside. Sisi only instructed her to bring tea and snacks, then told her to stand quietly beside the pavilion for a long time.

Leah felt she should have been doing more to earn Sisi’s trust, yet Sisi remained guarded around her.

In fact, when the little prince arrived at the courtyard, Sisi told her to leave the pavilion altogether and stand near the main building instead. That left Leah with no opportunity to curry favor with the prince and no chance to slowly make the boy grow fond of her.

So when Vestor arrived at the Queen’s courtyard, Leah seized the opportunity. She slipped into the pavilion unnoticed, then quietly followed him to the training grounds, driven by curiosity about the rumors she had heard that morning—that Mistress Sisi was a witch.

What she witnessed there chilled her to the bone.

Trees twisted and bent at Sisi’s command—even the very tree Leah hid behind moved its branches. Vines erupted from the earth and restrained the Beast King himself.

The trees obeyed Sisi as though they were alive, as though she were their queen.

More terrifying still, none of the powerful high-ranking beastmen present could break even a single vine with all their strength.

Leah dug her claws into the bark as she witnessed Sisi’s strange power, her decision solidifying.

’That woman is far too dangerous to confront directly,’ Leah thought. ’I don’t think I can kill a powerful with with poison, not a chance.’

Her gaze darkened.

’I need to gain her trust so I can get close to the little prince, then use her as a scapegoat.’

’I’ll poison the little prince—just enough to make him gravely ill—and blame everything on a witch’s hex,’ Leah’s devious plan formed quickly in her head. ’Then, when he’s on the verge of death, I’ll appear with the cure. The King will fall in love with me for saving his son.’

She was convinced the Beast King’s fondness for Sisi stemmed solely from the little prince’s attachment. If she could gained the little prince’s attachment, then the Beast King would naturally fall in love with her.

’And if that fails,’ she continued coldly, ’the prince himself will see me as his savior. I can guide him... shape him as my future mate. When he comes of age, he’ll mate with me willingly.’ 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Leah was certain her plan was flawless.

The first step was simple: earn Sisi’s trust, so she would allow Leah to babysit Jojo whenever he was around.

Kael’s arrival sent a ripple of shock through the Queen’s courtyard, especially when he appeared carrying the unconscious Mistress in his arms.

Diane immediately ordered the maids to prepare warm water and nourishing medicine. She followed the King and the little prince into Sisi’s chamber.

Kael gently laid Sisi on the bed and sat at her side, staring down at her without speaking.

Jojo climbed onto the bed and sat beside her as well, waiting silently for her to wake.

Father and son sat there, lost in thought, the room permeated in silence.

Diane couldn’t hold back her curiosity any longer, especially seeing how much Kael and Jojo cared for Sisi.

"My King... what happened to the Mistress?" she asked carefully.

"She exhausted herself after using too much of her power. She’ll be fine," Kael assured. Then he glanced at Diane. "Everyone in the Queen’s courtyard must have heard about her power by now. Haven’t they?"

Diane nodded hesitantly.

The rumors had spread quickly, starting when Sisi rushed off with the little prince. A guard and a maid later returned, reporting how the trees at the summit bent and moved in unison at her command.

At first, Diane hadn’t believed them, because that would be the work of a powerful witch.

But after seeing the summit herself, she knew they hadn’t lied.

The trees had twisted together, branches interwoven to form a massive bridge leading straight to the King’s cave.

"It’s true," Kael said calmly. "She’s a witch."

He said it plainly—so Sisi wouldn’t suffer under whispered suspicion in her own courtyard.

"But she’s never harmed Jojo or me. All she does is control plants."

"T-Then... if she only controls plants," Diane ventured, "could she be a faerie instead?"

Kael chuckled softly. "I don’t think faeries grow this large. They are only thumb-sized at their biggest."

He looked back at Sisi, a faint smile touching his lips. "Still... it would be nice if she were a faerie instead of a witch."

’And even better if she had violet eyes,’ he thought. ’Then I could tell myself I’m drawn to my fated mate.’

Reality, however, was far less accommodating.

Sisi wasn’t a faerie, and she didn’t have violet eyes.

She was a human who had performed a dark ritual and become a witch, perhaps the very reason she had left human lands and remained in the perilous Roc Forest with Jojo.

But Kael didn’t care.

What mattered was her love for Jojo, and his undeniable attraction to her.

"She’s still your mistress," Kael said firmly. "Even if she’s a witch, make sure no one in this courtyard makes her feel unwelcome. Understood?"

"Understood, My King," Diane replied, bowing her head. "But... what about her future?"

Kael frowned slightly. "Her future?"

"Mistress Sisi is young and unmarried," Diane said cautiously. "She may stay for the little prince—but what if she finds someone she loves someday? Would you... let her go?"

The question wasn’t careless.

Diane wanted to know where Sisi stood in the King’s heart.

If the answer was clear, then Sisi’s fate would be sealed. She would become Queen Sisi in the future... or perhaps Concubine Sisi.

Before Kael could reply, Jojo burst out—

"Sisi won’t leave! She’ll stay with Jojo forever!"

Diane stiffened looking at the worked up prince. "M-My Prince, forgive me. I only asked because there is only one favored lady in the palace... unless the King intends to take her as a concubine, like Ruela before?"
