Chapter 122: Chapter 122: A New Sweeping Maid (I)

Ruela was shocked to hear that the Beast King actually needed help from someone else.

Everyone in the kingdom believed he was immortal and all-powerful. Some even worshipped him as a demigod, blessed with undeniable strength by the Moon Goddess herself.

And now, this seemingly invincible being needed help?

Ruela wanted to believe the Little Prince was lying, but the distress on his face, and the bruises covering his body, proved otherwise. It was clear that he had descended the summit in a desperate hurry, ignoring his injuries just to find Sisi because he believed whatever happened to his father could be handled by that female human.

At first, Ruela wanted to go find the Beast King herself. If she could somehow help him, perhaps he would look at her favorably again, and maybe even restore her title as concubine.

But then she remembered Sisi’s words from that morning, spoken when Ruela had been summoned to her chamber.

Then, all such thoughts vanished instantly, because her survival was what mattered the most now.

And beyond that... she felt pity for the wounded child.

"I work in Sisi’s courtyard," Ruela said quickly. "Let me take you to her."

"O-okay! Thank you, Big Sister!" Jojo replied, following her eagerly.

When Ruela entered the Queen’s courtyard, she immediately ran into Diane, who was about to scold her for abandoning her duties as a sweeping maid.

But Diane froze when she noticed the Little Prince walking closely behind Ruela.

She nearly jumped in shock at the sight of his battered condition—his skin scraped and bruised as if he had endured countless falls and beatings.

Diane shot Ruela a sharp glare, but before she could speak, Jojo asked urgently, "Auntie, do you know where Sisi is? I need her help!"

"Ah—M-Mistress is inside, My Prince," Diane replied hastily. "Would you like to see her now? I’m sure she has all the time if it’s for you."

"Yes!" Jojo nodded fervently. "It’s Daddy... Daddy needs help!"

Diane was also surprised by that statement. Logically, she shouldn’t think much of it. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

But seeing the battered little prince, Diane knew something must’ve happened at the summit, and Mistress Sisi was the only one who could handle it, "T-then please follow me, My Prince."

"Okay! Thank you, Auntie!" Jojo turned back to Ruela and smiled brightly. "Thank you for bringing me here, Big Sister!"

Ruela smiled back. She wanted to pat his head, but stopped herself. She was no longer a concubine. She was merely a sweeping maid now, and for a maid to pat the crown prince’s head was a violation.

So she only smiled and stood still.

After observing that the prince showed no fear or resentment—and had even thanked Ruela—Diane concluded that his injuries were not her doing.

She guided Jojo inside to meet Sisi, while Ruela watched from afar.

A thin smile crossed Ruela’s face.

"I did the right thing this time..." she murmured.

Dawn was always a bustling hour in the palace. Preparations for the morning assembly kept everyone busy, even nocturnal beastmen like Vestor the owl, had to delay his sleep until the morning assembly was over.

But in the concubine’s courtyard, Ruela and Leah hadn’t slept at all.

Not because they were nocturnal, but because their thoughts wouldn’t let them rest.

Leah was ecstatic, fantasizing about the authority she would gain as Sisi’s personal maid, while carefully plotting how to claim the queen’s crown—whether through Kael or Jojo.

Either way, she had think of all the possible outcome of her plan, and all the methods she could use to slowly climb up the rank... and the king’s or prince’s bed.

Ruela, on the other hand, was consumed by dread.

She kept thinking about horrible scenarios.

Would she be bullied relentlessly until she was broken from inside? Until she left the palace in even deeper disgrace, demoted from concubine to maid?

If that happened, Ruela was certain her own mother would force poison down her throat, ensuring her death before she could bring further shame upon the family.

Thus, she had no choice but to endure the humiliation she felt as she was now a sweeping maid.

This wasn’t just about her anymore, it was about her family and her pack.

Both women rose before dawn and began packing.

Ruela, overwhelmed by her many dresses and unused to such labor, called out, "Leah, help me pack these. We don’t have much time. You have to hurry!"

Normally, Leah would have rushed to obey.

But not today.

She looked down at Ruela, who was hurriedly pulling clothes from the wardrobe, and scoffed.

"And what makes you think I’d do that?"

Ruela froze. "What did you say?"

"I said—what makes you think I’d do that?" Leah sneered. "You’re not my mistress anymore. You’re just a sweeping maid. I’m Mistress Sisi’s personal maid now. What right do you have to order me?"

Ruela stared at her in disbelief.

She had grown up with Leah. The girl had always been obedient and always eager to please.

But the Leah standing before her now felt like a stranger.

"And don’t look at me like that," Leah rolled her eyes as she turned away. "Don’t forget to pack my belongings too. We don’t have much time, so hurry."

"But—"

"Or do you want me to report you to Mistress Sisi?" Leah tilted her head, smiling maliciously. "I can say anything I want now. She’ll believe me."

"Do you really want your life to get even harder?"

Ruela swallowed nervously.

The change in Leah was so sudden it left her reeling. But packing Leah’s belongings, like her maid?

That was unthinkable!

But then the image of misery that awaited her if she resisted made her reluctantly nod.

"I-I’ll pack your things after I finish mine."

"I told you we don’t have time, didn’t I?" Leah mocked. "Just pack whatever you can, and do mine. Now."

Once again, Ruela swallowed her pride.

She hastily shoved her belongings into her luggage, then rushed to Leah’s room to pack for her.

Leah leaned against the wall, watching with a satisfied sneer.

’This is what I was born for. I was born to rule, not to serve.’
