Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 116: An Offer You Can’t Refuse
Everyone present was stunned by her request.
All eyes turned to Sisi in unison, waiting for her to continue. Even Kael was uncertain what she intended.
But he knew that whatever she planned in mind must be coherent enough. Kael had long recognized her devious and calculating nature, just like how she could free that damned tiger and still came out unscathed.
Sisi smiled and said to him, "Since she is no longer a concubine yet refuses to leave, why don’t I employ her as my servant instead? She can work with the sweeping maids in the courtyard. I’m sure we can use the extra manpower."
The shock deepened.
Only Kael reacted differently. He burst out laughing and nodded. "Alright, alright. You can have her as your servant. But that depends on her willingness. She’s no longer my concubine. She has her freedom, and her compensation in gold."
"Don’t worry," Sisi replied calmly. "I know she’ll accept."
She turned back to Ruela. "What do you think, Ruela?"
Ruela clenched her teeth.
She wanted to scream at this ragged woman who dared make such an offer.
She had been born a noble of her pack. She was practically a princess before the Beast King conquered the Silvertooth Pack. How could she become a servant girl? And worse, to serve a human, a species beastmen looked down upon?
Her gaze flicked to Kael, wanting to cry out for injustice again.
Then she noticed the amethyst pinned to his chest.
Her eyes glimmered in hope as she finally found a way to fish for his sympathy.
"My King," Ruela said quickly, "you’re still wearing the amethyst I gave you. Doesn’t that mean anything to you? Am I truly that detestable in your eyes?"
"You—!"
"Oh?" Sisi tilted her head. "That’s new to me. I did wonder why you kept wearing that amethyst."
"Yes, it was my gift!" Ruela pressed. "If you truly don’t care for me anymore, why would you keep something I gave you?"
Kael froze.
Of course, he couldn’t explain that the amethyst reminded him of his fated mate’s violet eyes. If he did, half the female beastmen in the kingdom would gouge out their own eyes just to dye them purple.
"Then perhaps my request was inappropriate," Sisi said politely, bowing slightly towards Kael. "Pardon me, My King. I didn’t realize you still valued her so deeply."
"I don’t—" Kael stopped himself before he blurted out the real reason in front of everyone.
For the first time, the mighty Beast King felt cold sweat break out across his back.
The amethyst had not been Ruela’s gift—it was a tribute from the Silvertooth Pack. Ruela had merely delivered it.
But under Sisi’s gaze, Kael felt as though he had committed an unforgivable sin, and her ’polite’ gesture was like a stab straight to his chest.
He preferred Sisi to show her disdain, aloofness in front of him. Even her sarcasm sounded better than this fake politeness.
Kael finally snapped as he couldn’t handle the pressure coming from Sisi’s polite smile, with a sharp motion, he tore the amethyst from his cloak and hurled it to the ground—
And it shattered instantly.
Ruela gasped.
That gemstone was rare, precious, and nearly impossible to find. It was a prized gift that required a lot of manpower from her pack.
So, the members of Silvertooth Pack were really proud when the Beast King wore it on his cloak.
Since Kael wore it without hesitation, Ruela had believed mentioning it would soften him.
Instead, he destroyed it.
"You can have your amethyst back," Kael said coldly. "I wore it because it was beautiful, not because it was important."
He turned to Sisi, hoping—no, expecting—approval, even if it was just a short, but sincere smile.
Instead, she frowned at the shattered amethyst in the ground.
Her frown frustrated Kael to no end.
’Why can’t you be satisfied with anything I do?’ Kael wanted to ask—but swallowed the thought.
Sisi, meanwhile, thought the act wasteful. The gem had clearly mattered to him.
Was it truly worth destroying something precious just to sever ties?
Still, since the amethyst had been shattered, there was no point of crying over it, and she decided to play along.
"Well," Sisi said lightly to Ruela, "The Beast King has returned your amethyst. Since you no longer have ties to him, you have no place in the palace."
"I won’t accept your offer!" Ruela cried. "I wasn’t born to be a servant! How could I serve you?!"
"Don’t be hasty," Sisi replied calmly. "I have a more... tempting offer."
Ruela hesitated, but waited for Sisi to say the offer.
"I’ll allow you to retain your title," Sisi continued. "No one within the palace is allowed to speak of your new position. To the outside world, you will still be known as Concubine Ruela."
Ruela found herself unable to breath as a spark of hope appeared in front of her.
"That title will protect you," Sisi said. "And when spring ends, I’ll give you a gift."
"A gift?" Ruela muttered. "What kind?"
"I guarantee that you will retain your dignity," Sisi replied. "That’s all I can say."
Kael frowned. "Wait—"
"I accept!" Ruela blurted out, terrified the offer might vanish.
"Good," Sisi said. "Diane will assign you as a sweeping maid. Since you’re no longer a concubine, you’ll live with the other maids in the Queen’s courtyard."
Ruela nodded.
It wasn’t ideal, but it was far better than getting kicked out of the palace and lost her title.
With Sisi’s offer, she could keep her title as a concubine.
That title was everything to her, because her entire identity was tied to it the moment she was picked by Kael as his concubine. If she lost it, then she was as good as dead and disgraced.
She didn’t trust Sisi, but desperation outweighed caution. She still accepted the offer even if it came from her enemy.
Behind her, Leah felt elated by the new status quo.
Ruela wasn’t executed, but being reduced to a sweeping maid, the lowest rank in the palace, was worse in many ways.
And with such a low status, making Ruela’s life miserable would be easy.
But first, Leah needed to secure her own position.
She suddenly dropped to her knees before Sisi and Kael, bowing deeply.
"T-Then what about me, Mistress?" she asked pitifully.
