By the time Dante and Asphodel arrived at the most recently corrupted district, Netherius had already left after finishing his task.

The number of humans who had become undead was much greater than in any other area of the city, making Dante wonder if the evacuation had gone wrong.

Suddenly, he felt a slight breeze on his face that made the warlock squint and turn, asking Asphodel if she could feel it, too. However, the vampire mother didn't sense anything.

At that moment, Dante realized that the invisible wave that caught his attention was one of the banshee's abilities, which allowed them to scream to ask their allies for help or notify them about incoming danger.

Since Dante was considered Saris 'summoner,' it was easier for him to perceive the energy of her shouts.

"Trinity, where is Saris right now?" Dante asked, holding his earpiece.

Inside the hacker's room, Trinity stared at the numerous screens around her, searching for a drone near the northern checkpoint, and spotted the harpion twins flying over the corrupted area of the city at maximum speed.

When she informed Dante that something must have happened for the twins to run away, he halted his steps and clenched his fist until his palm began to bleed, letting a drop fall on the ground. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

Right as the blood made contact with the earth, a glowing red pentagram appeared, prompting Tanya and Dirk to raise their camera with enthusiasm.

Dante gazed at the reporters for a brief second, thinking that it was the first time he had seen someone so happy about summoning a demon. Still, after Dante called for Cerberus, the puppy appeared in the center of the pentagram.

"This ichor doesn't affect you, right?" Dante asked the puppy, who barked as if confirming his comment.

"Is Saris in the Acheron River?" The warlock continued, and to answer his question, the puppy had to transform into his true self.

As Cerberus' body glowed while producing a steaming hot smoke around him, Tanya and Dirk ended up taking a step back from the shock, seeing the little puppy had grown to be the size of a small truck.

His three heads looked vicious, and his claws seemingly produced an endless stream of shadowy energy that only made his appearance more foreboding. Even so, Cerberus still acted submissively before Dante, lowering his three heads for the warlock to pat.

When Dante approached Cerberus' middle head and closed his eyes, the reporters intently watched, waiting for something amazing to happen.

Contrary to their expectations, Dante wasn't planning on doing anything flashy.

*Tch!* "That banshee…" The warlock muttered, separating his face from the dog's.

Asphodel understood everything that Dante was doing, so she didn't have to question him about his actions. However, Tanya was wholly confused and asked what the warlock was doing.

The Acheron River was the stream where the souls of the deceased demons would arrive before they were sent back to their respective places in hell—and Cerberus was the guardian of the gate leading to that river.

The three-headed dog was able to detect whose souls were in the river, although Dante still had to locate their exact location by himself.

When a demon was returned to the Acheron River, they could stay unconsciously drifting along the stream for a few days or for hundreds of years. However, if Dante could 'fish' them out, then they wouldn't have to wait.

Having confirmation that Saris' body had arrived at the Acheron River, Dante sharpened his eyes with anger.

While the warlock had always demonstrated a certain contempt for all demons—except Cerberus—he also knew that the people in the Jade Dragons had been getting along with them.

Moreover, Dante had always known Saris to be somewhat of a coward who would run from situations in which they couldn't see themselves winning, so he pondered what could have made her confront the necromancer.

"It's clear that Netherius was here recently… Could he be avoiding us?" Asphodel commented.

The necromancer was able to teleport himself to any area corrupted by his death ichor, and since there were over five districts wholly covered in it, Netherius could move for miles in an instant.

The death ichor was part of Netherius' body. In addition to being able to teleport, he could see and hear everything that happened in the corrupted areas, essentially making him omnipotent in his own domain.

"It seems that way. We could fly all over the corrupted territories, and he could simply warp to another district far away from us," Dante replied.

"So, what? Do we just wait for him to show himself to us?" Asphodel asked, placing her hands on her hips and scanning her surroundings.

"If that's the case, show yourself right now, coward!" Dante shouted, knowing that Netherius could hear him with all the ichor around him.

The group stayed silent after the warlock's taunt, feeling a cold breeze passing by that suddenly turned much cooler.

As the ichor gathered into a vortex a few meters away from Dante, the body of Netherius materialized before them, standing tall with an eerie smile on his face.

Tanya was surprised that the necromancer looked quite fancy with his suit and tie, as she was expecting it to be an old man wearing a robe. Of course, she wasn't aware that Netherius had taken over the body of Don Darius, the former leader of the Onyx Cartel.

"Hellslayer. Can't you see I'm busy?" Netherius asked without moving a step.

"Where is Camille?" Dante replied with another question, his gaze sharpened with ferocity.

"Ah, my fiancée is fine. You don't have to worry about her anymore."

"That was not what I asked. What's your deal with wanting to get married? I know you've always been a freak, but this a different level," Dante mocked, though his expression was cold as ice.

"Love can be unpredictable, just like life. You should know that better than me," Netherius said with a taunting smile.

"Nope, I can't relate. The person I loved reciprocated my feelings…" Dante replied, pausing for a second and smirking at the necromancer. "You, on the other hand, are just a weirdo that nobody likes," he continued, outwitting Netherius.

Still, the necromancer didn't show his discontent at the warlock's comments. Instead, he pondered aloud if that was all Dante wanted to say, as he still had other matters to take care of.
