Modern World Warlock-Chapter 335: Asphodel’s Assistance
While Megan and Lindsey kept talking with the Death Knight, Vesnia, in an unknown area of the necropolis, Dante tried to follow the small trail of umbra left behind by the brunette.
Irina, who was grouped with the two women, joined Dante in his search while Tanya and her cameraman kept following them from behind, recording everything they laid their eyes upon.
At one point, the trail dissipated since the necrotic air made it difficult to detect, prompting Dante to stop his search for a moment as he tried to come up with another solution.
Suddenly, Dante turned his head and sharpened his gaze when he felt a powerful individual traveling towards them. Still, after a few seconds, he relaxed as he recognized the auras.
"Mother…?" Irina muttered, sensing Asphodel getting closer to them.
It didn't even take a minute for her to spot them from the air, and Tanya didn't waste a single second to record the Vampire Mother's entrance.
"Irina, honey…" Asphodel said, looking at her daughter and seeing the different cuts and bruises on her body.
After approaching Irina and holding her hand, a vibrant red aura covered their bodies as Irina's wounds started to heal, making Tanya even more excited as she believed she was getting good footage for her documentary.
"What are you guys doing here? I thought Dante was going alone…" Asphodel asked, turning her gaze and seeing the reporters.
Irina explained that she was fighting Radeon with both Megan and Lindsey, but after the Death Knight blew himself up, she lost sight of the pair.
"Huh… So, you guys didn't even finish the job?" Asphodel asked, her tone slightly disappointed.
Before Irina could nervously respond, Dante stepped in to give her a hand.
"They did finish him off. I found him not too far from the explosion crater…" Dante said, elaborating further and revealing that Radeon had regained his memories at the end.
"I see. Well, then that makes two less Death Knights to worry about," Asphodel replied, explaining that she had just killed Udras a few minutes before their meeting.
The undead warlock, Udras, had been fighting Laurent, Maya, and Madeline over five blocks away from their location, and thanks to Asphodel's intervention, the fight ended much earlier than expected.
As the Vampire Mother kept recounting how she found Dante, she turned her gaze back at the reporters and raised an eyebrow.
"So… Who are these people?" Asphodel asked.
Dante placed a palm on his face with a bit of annoyance, but before he could reply, Tanya stepped in and introduced herself, instantly revealing that she was making a documentary of the necropolis.
"Are you serious?" Asphodel asked again, turning her attention to Dante, who simply shrugged it off.
"As long as they don't become a burden, I don't see what's the problem," the warlock replied, prompting Asphodel to shrug it off as well.
Falling back to their previous conversation before getting distracted by the reporters, Dante asked Asphodel where she was going, and the vampire replied she was moving to the area that had just been corrupted.
When Netherius expanded the necropolis to corrupt an entirely new district, Asphodel and Dante could feel the pressure in the necrotic air.
It wasn't a feeling that could easily be discernible by others, but the most experienced mages could detect it in a second.
At first, Dante was moving to the same location. However, the whole ordeal with Radeon made him deviate from his course to look for Megan and Lindsey.
"Hmm, I could probably help with that…" Asphodel commented. She knew that Irina had drunk a bit of Megan's blood to power herself up, and she could use her abilities to locate the origin of that blood.
As Asphodel closed her eyes and focused on highlighting the scent of blood, Tanya cautiously approached Dante with her microphone in hand, and the camera pointed at them.
"Mr. Dante. Could this be your older sister?" Tanya asked, prompting Dante to look at her with an utterly confused expression.
"My older sister?" Dante asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Ah, I didn't mean anything weird by it—It's just that the two of you are quite similar…" Tanya continued, pointing at the fact that both Asphodel and Dante shared crimson eyes and jet-black hair.
Asphodel chuckled when she heard the woman's reasoning, playfully looking at Dante and saying that she wouldn't mind if the warlock called her "big sister."
Still, Dante simply let out a sigh of defeat and pinched the bridge of his nose with slight annoyance. "Can we get back to our mission?" he asked.
"Mhmm, I think I found them," Asphodel replied, turning her gaze to another street and beckoning Dante and the others to follow.
Since Dante wanted to move faster, he picked up the cameraman and asked Irina to get ahold of Tanya so that they could carry them while flying to their destination. Otherwise, they would have to walk, and they weren't sure how much time they had before something happened to Megan and Lindsey.
Without asking for her permission, Irina approached the reporter and held her by the waist before flying up. Dante, on the other hand, carried Dirk like a sack of potatoes, which allowed the man to raise his camera and take a shot of the corrupted city from above.
After flying for a little over two minutes, Asphodel pointed at a small house located in what seemed to be an old residential district, wholly covered in death's ichor.
To their surprise, both Megan and Lindsey were standing outside the house, with Lindsey rubbing her wrists after having chains attached to them.
"Hmm? What are you guys doing here?" Megan asked as the group descended from the air.
Dante let out a sigh of relief, explaining that he found Irina looking for them, so he joined in her search.
Megan scratched her head with a bit of embarrassment. She appreciated the sentiment of having them look for her and Lindsey the moment they heard they disappeared. However, she also felt guilty about taking Dante and Asphodel's attention away from their mission.
