Modern Weapons Cheat in Fantasy World-Chapter 19: Killing the Wyverns
This is the first time he wielded an FIM-92 Stinger. He knew about it when watching military videos and its capabilities but operating it, it was out of his expertise.
However, it felt like he had used them before, possibly due to the system’s influence.
Outside, he could see the wyverns flying all over the city, and there was a lot of them.
It was time to find out if the stinger works.
He raised the Stinger to his shoulder.
The launcher settled into place as if it belonged there. His left hand gripped the front, right hand firm on the trigger assembly. His eye lined up with the sight.
A low tone filled his ear.
He tracked the target.
The wyvern moved fast, weaving between rooftops, its body shifting with short bursts of wingbeats. It wasn’t flying in a straight line. It was hunting.
The tone stayed flat.
No lock.
Marcus adjusted his aim, following its path. The creature turned, circling back toward a wider part of the street where several civilians were still running.
Then its head dipped.
Its mouth opened.
A faint glow formed inside its throat.
The tone changed, and it was now ringing sharply.
He pulled the trigger.
The missile burst from the tube with a sharp crack and shot forward before igniting. A white trail followed it as it cut through the air.
The wyvern reacted, pulling up hard, wings beating as it tried to climb.
Too late.
The missile struck its chest and detonated.
The blast tore it apart mid-air. Pieces of its body scattered across the street, some crashing into rooftops, others slamming into the ground.
Elaina, who was just at the door of the tavern, had her mouth gaped.
"Magic arrow?" she muttered under her breath, but it was different. A magic arrow wouldn’t cause such a huge explosion like Marcus’s powers. It’s completely different and it came out of the tube.
Marcus replaced the spent launch tube immediately.
His right hand moved first, flipping the release latch near the rear grip. The empty tube loosened with a short click. He pulled it back and off the firing unit, letting it drop to the ground beside him.
The gripstock stayed in his hands.
He reached down with his left hand and grabbed a fresh missile tube from the stack. It was sealed, capped at both ends. He brought it up and aligned the rear connector with the firing unit.
The grooves matched.
He pushed it forward.
There was resistance for a brief second—
Then a solid click as it locked into place.
He gave it a short tug to confirm it was secured.
The sight powered up again, a faint hum returning through the unit.
Marcus raised the launcher back onto his shoulder in one motion.
Above him, the wyverns had already shifted.
Two of them were circling wider, staying out of range. Another dipped lower, testing the street again, its wings cutting through the air as it angled downward.
Marcus tracked it.
The tone stayed flat as the system tried to lock on to the wyvern.
The wyvern moved erratically, pulling up, then diving again, changing direction every few seconds. It wasn’t exposing itself long enough.
Marcus adjusted his stance and stepped forward into the open.
He needed a clear line.
The creature turned again.
Then it committed.
It folded its wings slightly and dropped, aiming straight toward the street.
Toward him.
Marcus held the sight steady.
The distance closed fast.
The wyvern opened its jaws mid-dive.
That glow returned.
The tone snapped sharp.
Lock.
He squeezed the trigger.
The missile launched out of the tube, clearing the distance before igniting. The backblast pushed dust and debris behind him as the rocket motor kicked in.
The missile climbed straight into the wyvern’s path.
The creature tried to pull out of the dive but was too late.
The explosion hit just above the street, tearing through the wyvern’s chest and wing. The blast threw its body sideways into a building, where it smashed through wood and disappeared inside with a heavy crash.
"Two done," Marcus said, replacing the tube again. There are still many of them but it seems that they were scattering away as they witnessed their kin getting killed by him.
They climbed higher, wings beating slower now, circling at a distance beyond the rooftops. One of them let out a long screech, but it wasn’t the same as before. It carried farther, sharper, like a call.
Marcus kept the sight trained on them. The stinger has a range of five miles, and he targeted the wyvern that screeched as he believed it to be the leader.
It locked onto the target and he squeezed the trigger. The missile hurtled forward, clearing the rooftops before its motor ignited fully. The exhaust flared bright for a split second, then it streaked upward in a straight line, correcting its path mid-flight as the seeker kept the target centered.
The wyvern reacted the moment it saw the trail.
Its wings snapped hard as it tried to climb higher, angling away from the city. The others followed its movement, spreading out even wider, but the one Marcus picked stayed exposed just long enough.
The missile closed the distance fast.
There was no sharp turn this time, no last-second dive.
The wyvern tried to outrun it.
It couldn’t.
Impact.
The explosion went off high above the city, louder than the previous ones. A burst of fire and fragments spread outward, and the body of the creature broke apart mid-air, falling in pieces far beyond the rooftops. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
The remaining wyverns were now too far and too dark for him to see.
"That should settle it."
Meanwhile, the people around him looked at him with curiosity and amazement. They were shocked to see a man single-handedly repelling wyverns. A feat that normally a high-ranking adventurer could do.
Elaina approached him carefully and then looked up at him as if he was a different person.
"You did it...you repelled the wyverns," she said in an awed tone.
"Yeah, I did," Marcus simply confirmed.
"So that’s your magic...I didn’t know you have such a great talent in magic," Elaina said, looking at the tube.
"Magic?" Marcus tilted his head to the side. What was she talking about? Ah, she meant the stinger was magic. But in reality, it was just a conventional weapon. But he doesn’t want to correct her either. He wanted to leave that impression etched on her mind.
"Yeah it’s magic," Marcus lied and added. "So, am I going to get promoted for this?"
Elaina nodded her head with a smile. "Without a doubt."
