Chapter 684: A Guest

Alice didn’t reply to Karr.

She looked at the marauders coming at them. If they ran now, the survivors would inform the others and follow them into the tunnel.

"Kill them all," Alice said.

Karr’s eyes narrowed.

A crossbowman lifted his weapon again, trying to find a clear line through the rubble. Alice didn’t give him time. She rushed through the broken wall.

SWOSSSH!!!

The bolt missed its target.

Before he could take another shot, Alice was already in his face. Her knife stabbed into his wrist, then into his jaw. He dropped without even realizing what happened.

Without Silen as a burden, her speed rose many times over, catching the marauders by surprise.

Karr went straight for the other crossbowman.

SLASH! SLASH!

He cut the man’s hand, then cut his throat as he tried to scream. The crossbow fell to the ground without firing a single bolt.

The situation reversed at once.

Before, the marauders were hunting. Now they became the prey.

The marauders started to panic.

Three rushed together, trying to overwhelm Alice.

Alice didn’t back down.

BAM!!!

She met the first man head-on, smashed his nose with her forehead, then drove her knife into the side of his thigh.

The second man tried to hook her shoulder. She used the first man’s falling body to block the hook, then kicked the second man’s knee until it broke.

SWOSH!!!

The third swung a pipe at her head.

Alice ducked under it and stabbed upward into his ribs. She twisted the knife, then slashed, tearing his heart apart.

The man choked on his own blood and fell to the ground.

Karr also moved fast, finishing every marauder as quickly as he could.

A horned beastkin tried to charge through, thinking he could finish him off.

SWOSH!!!

Karr was breathing hard, but he still forced his body to move. He stepped aside and cut the knee.

The beastkin crashed face-first into the rubble.

"DIE!!"

Alice leaped in from the side and finished him with a stab to the neck.

One of the marauders backed away.

"This isn’t worth it!" he shouted, turning to run.

Alice didn’t chase far. She just threw her knife.

SWOSH!!!

It hit the back of his skull and dropped him to the ground.

She jogged over, pulled the knife free, and wiped it.

"So you do know fear," she said with a cold smile.

The remaining men finally broke. They ran in different directions, trying to hide behind foundations and broken walls, but none of them got far.

Alice stood still for a second, breathing hard, eyes scanning.

Karr came back to her side, blood dripping from his sword.

"Anyone escaped?" he asked.

"Should be none," Alice said. "Let’s go."

They didn’t have time to clean anything, but that didn’t mean they would just leave it like this.

Karr grabbed the nearest corpse by the ankles and dragged it to the hole.

Alice grabbed another by the arm and threw it down.

BAM! BAM!!!

Bodies went down first, one after another.

Alice went back for Silen.

He was still out cold.

Alice grabbed his collar and hauled him to the edge.

"Go down, fatty!" she said, then kicked him down.

Thud!

Silen dropped into the darkness.

Karr jumped after him without hesitation.

Alice picked up a chain from the rubble, then tied it to a huge chunk of debris.

She jumped down while pulling it, making the debris slide and block the entrance.

The air quickly changed to stale and cold, and the surroundings turned to darkness.

She landed on the pile of bodies.

Silen had already been pulled to the side, while Karr sat beside him, taking deep breaths.

"Can’t believe we survived that."

"Me too. I thought we’d be captured for sure," Alice said, looking down the tunnel.

There was only one way forward. A stairwell went deeper underground.

She walked over and sat beside Karr.

"Let’s go after he wakes up."

Alice’s goal was to escape, not explore the ruin, so she decided it was better to rest for now.

"By the way, did you see their leader?" Alice asked. A group this large wouldn’t move without someone leading them.

"No. Seems like he just waited for his people to capture us. I bet he’s venting right now, counting how many people he lost," Karr said with a chuckle.

"True." Alice smiled.

The leader’s main concern was only Silen, fearing they would teleport again and slip from his grasp. That made him underestimate Alice and Karr’s combat prowess.

"You seem to be doing better now than last time," Alice said.

She saw Karr still moving even after killing so many people. Even now, she believed he could still fight a few more.

Karr shook his head. "You didn’t see how many people I killed last time. It’s funny. My longer stamina is thanks to my weirdly short body."

"I see... Karr, what’s your goal now?"

"Me? I don’t think much. We’re a race of hunters, Alice. Our life is just looking for prey to hunt, then moving to the next one. For now, my goal is just to survive and adapt to the new surroundings."

Alice nodded.

His reasoning made sense. She didn’t feel like he was hiding anything.

She looked toward the pile of dead bodies.

"For me, my goal is simple. Find the leader of those marauders and take revenge."

Her eyes gleamed with killing intent.

Karr laughed. "Count me in for that one. I’ll make sure to hunt him down."

Alice nodded. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

It wasn’t that she truly wanted revenge, but she needed to start somewhere to learn how this prison world worked. She might as well start with the one who wanted to hunt her down.

"I’ll make sure to make him wish he was dead," Karr said with a cold glint.

Alice was about to say more when the cavern walls around them lit up.

A green glow rose from the surface, followed by the sound of footsteps.

"It’s been years since I’ve had a guest."
