Modern Cultivation : The Strongest Couple Bonded by Vampire System-Chapter 673: One Week Later
The web didn’t stop.
The threads thickened. They came from behind, from below, from all around her.
Olivia swung her arm, and black flame cut a line through them.
Fsshh!!! Fsshh!!!
Threads burned, but the charred ends did not fall away. They reattached, then moved toward her again.
Seeing the opportunity, Alex signaled Mingyue.
He shoved his warhammer forward and forced white flame into the net.
BOOM!!!
It barely slowed.
His free hand drew a rune in the air, reinforcing the gap he had forced open and holding it in place a moment longer.
Mingyue slammed both palms out.
Purple lotuses bloomed and detonated one after another, forcing a small opening to widen.
Alex looked at Mingyue. "Now."
Mingyue nodded.
She pressed her palm against the side of Alex’s warhammer head.
Purple frost spread over the white flame.
The flame and frost collided.
BOOM!!!
A single blast erupted.
It punched through the net like a spear and tore open a path.
As the flame and frost met, they reacted and built pressure, then Mingyue’s space control compressed it into a concentrated point and detonated it forward.
Alex grabbed Mingyue’s arm. "Go!"
They shot through the opening.
Olivia saw it. Her eyes widened for the first time.
"No!"
She tried to tear free.
Black flame erupted again, burning threads off her throat and shoulders.
But the web multiplied.
It wrapped her elbows, pinned her knees, and sealed her mouth.
The threads tightened until her arms could not move.
She was completely sealed inside a cocoon.
"MMMHH!"
Olivia’s muffled roar shook inside it.
The cocoon trembled, black flame flaring under the surface like a storm.
BOOM!!!!
"I won’t let you go!"
Olivia roared as she tried to chase, but her path was blocked.
A huge spider floated there, with all its eyes still closed.
Then Saryx came from behind.
Alex and Mingyue were already too far away, and the strength of the black hands that had blocked Saryx earlier had weakened.
After breaking through them, Saryx chased her down, this time with the fortress floating behind him.
"Where are you going?" Saryx snarled. "This time I will make sure to end you, Representative!"
***
A week had passed since the incident.
It should have been a small event in the vast universe, but somehow it became a trending topic.
The universe was in turmoil as headline after headline spread.
[Vampire Returns: Karthos Reach Left in Ruins After One-Night Massacre]
[Entire Star System Erased: Witnesses Report Black Flame That Left Nothing]
[Emergency Coalition Formed: Fortress Fleets Mobilize as ’Vampire’ Sightings Surge Across Border Sectors]
"Vampire sightings surging across the border? What is this?" Alex mumbled.
He clicked for more details, but there were no photos.
"It’s not like you’d believe it even with photos. They could easily fake one," Mingyue said as she sat beside him.
They were resting on top of a mountain on a random planet they found near Karthos Reach.
It was still multiple systems away, but it was close enough for them.
They had set up a luxurious camp using items from their storage rings.
"Can you cook some BBQ again, Alex?" Mingyue asked with a smile.
Alex nodded. "Sure."
He took out a BBQ grill, then poured gourmet charcoal into it.
It was a special charcoal Alex had made when he was bored.
The smoke it produced gave a clean smoking flavor to the meat, and at the same time it enhanced the taste and added a light spice.
He ignited the charcoal with a flick of his finger, then started grilling a steak.
"How long are we going to stay here?" Mingyue asked. "I think we might as well check those vampires. If they’re real, we can meet up with them."
"Let’s wait another week," Alex said. "We need to confirm Saryx’s situation first, and Lolth too."
He flipped the meat as he spoke.
The smell drifted over, making Mingyue’s eyes brighten.
"It’s good that you’re not down anymore," Alex said with a short chuckle.
"It’s been a while," Mingyue said. "And it’s not like it’s my first time hitting a wall. Next time we’ll fight better. We just need to get stronger."
Alex nodded.
With the new cultivation method, they were slowly becoming stronger.
Right now, what they needed was time.
They did not even need to worry about elixirs. Progenitor essence covered that.
"But what was with that woman? She seemed to hate me that much. Do you have any idea?" Mingyue asked.
She hoped Alex’s ability could at least give a clue.
She had thought about it for days, but no matter how hard she tried, she was sure she had never met her.
Except when she was Linghua.
Alex shrugged. "Maybe it wasn’t you, Mingyue. What if she has some history with your mother? Didn’t you say she looked similar to you?"
Mingyue frowned. "I doubt she’s strong enough to contend with her. I know she’s a genius, but still..."
Even after all this time, Mingyue still felt complicated about her mother.
Her harsh treatment did not disappear with time.
It left a permanent mark.
"Who knows," Alex said. "It’s just one possibility. But considering my father, I’m sure he’s tied to the Primordials in one way or another. And they were with her."
"The vampires, and your vampire. So complicated. They should all just come out and fight. Why all the underhanded tricks?" Mingyue muttered.
"If they could, they would," Alex said. "But the situation isn’t that simple. They’re too strong, and we still don’t know their goals."
Mingyue walked to the grill and picked up a piece of meat, making Alex smile.
When it was only the two of them, Mingyue would drop all restraint and just act how she wanted.
"Is their goal really that important? Whatever it is, I doubt it’s good. Alucard and the other Progenitors will fight them sooner or later," she said.
"Speaking of Progenitors, I don’t think Lolth was in a berserk state at all," Alex said. "She didn’t attack us. She only focused on that Olivia."
"Well... she did," Mingyue said. "She also consumed all the living beings inside Karthos Reach. I wonder what her situation is now. Do you think she can really resurrect fully?"
