Modern Cultivation : The Strongest Couple Bonded by Vampire System-Chapter 660: Soul Insect Queen
Inside the crystalline cavern filled with horror beyond imagination, a giant half-humanoid, half-insect creature stood in the middle.
Her upper body was that of a human woman, but her lower body was a centipede, long enough to coil across the crystal floor.
Each segment was lined with many sharp legs, and the lower segments near the end were far more bloated than the rest.
Every second, from the last segment of her tail, a new insect crawled out.
Some looked like the mantis Alex fought at first. Others looked like the insects Alex massacred in the tunnel.
But more types kept coming out, and many of them were abominations. Their appearance alone would make most people’s skin crawl.
The huge crystal chamber was filled with them, crawling over crystal walls, piling all over.
The Soul Insect Queen had her eyes closed.
It was unclear if she was sleeping or deep in thought, but a sudden vibration made her open them.
"What’s the purpose of this visit, Governor Rannor?"
BAM!!!
The ceiling split in two.
From it, Rannor emerged and drifted down, floating in the air.
"There’s a problem. The Dragon Prince Saryx wants to take the heart for himself."
The Soul Insect Queen frowned.
"What can that brute do? I admit his strength is something else, but interfering with my formation is out of his league."
"You underestimate dragon technology. They may love raw strength, but they never lack sophisticated tools."
"What is he planning?" the Soul Insect Queen asked, while she thinking.
’First the two vampires with progenitor aura, and now the Dragon Prince.
What is happening? Should I bid my time?’
She was thinking to wait until they got bored and left. She was not in a hurry.
Her main purpose was exactly what Alex guessed. It was the soul of an ancient strong warrior sealed inside the Arachne Progenitor’s heart, and the heart itself was only a bonus.
With that soul, she could create an army of veteran warriors.
Each one could hold themselves against the dragon overlord, or at least that was what she expected. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
There were also the unique skills those warriors once held.
In the past, Lolth hunted them on purpose, absorbing specific skills to perfect her mastery of combat and soul.
That was what the Soul Insect Queen wanted.
She had tasted the soul scrap thanks to the Governor.
Even tiny pieces of their souls had helped her evolve and build her army to this level.
"He wants to take all of you as sacrifices to awaken the Progenitor," Rannor said.
Despite saying that, he was exaggerating. He did not truly know Saryx’s full plan, but he believed this was enough to rattle her.
And it was.
"What!" the Soul Insect Queen snapped. "Resurrecting the Progenitor? Is he out of his mind?"
For her, the Progenitor awakening meant something worse than death.
The moment she woke, she would have authority over her and the entire swarm. Even if she somehow survived the ritual, she would become a slave and a tool.
A fate worse than dying for her.
Rannor nodded.
"That’s why I suggest we speed up the process and start now while he’s still preparing.
You know I need you and your army to help me with my goal. The stronger you all are, the better for me."
"In that case, you should deal with those two vampires too. Their presence here is a danger for all of us."
"Two vampires? Who?" Rannor asked.
"To think you couldn’t even feel them, How blind are you?"
The Soul Insect Queen screeched.
A small insect leaped forward and landed on Rannor’s palm,.
It looked like a pale larva with a leech-like body.
A ring of tiny hook-legs circled its sides, and a round mouth opened and closed at the tip, showing a row of black teeth.
It clung to his skin and kept wriggling, trying to crawl toward his wrist.
"This is a Soul Augmenting Insect," she said.
"Eat it alive. It will merge with your body and give you the ability to sense souls. Then you will understand what I mean."
Rannor stared at it, He recognized it. Despite its disgusting appearance, it was an extremely valuable parasite.
It would enhance its host’s soul sensing abilities, and after thirty days it would die.
Its body would then slowly break down, strengthening the host even further.
But Rannor did not have a human body anymore.
If he ate it, the Soul Insect Queen would notice his change.
His body had been turned into slime by the Primordial Representative, and the parasite would react differently inside him.
The Soul Insect Queen snorted when she saw his hesitation.
She let out another screech.
A spider the size of a truck jumped toward Rannor.
Rannor cut it with ease, splitting it into two, using only his palm.
The spider was split apart, but it danger didn’t disappear.
From the torn body, a million swarms of small crawling nightmares burst out, spraying into him like a hail storm.
They climbed over him in an instant, biting, burrowing, forcing their way trough his flesh.
Rannor’s body shook as the swarm poured in.
If it’s the old him, he will already got mad from the situation, but now he’s completely calm.
BAM!!!
Rannor exploded his qi, blasting the spider swarm away from his body.
His body was already torn apart. The skin ripped, showing his flesh, but it had already begun to heal.
Before he could pull away, the Soul Insect Queen moved.
Her palm caught him in midair like she was grabbing an insect.
CRACK!!!
She squeezed, and the cracking sound echoed through the crystal chamber.
Despite the sound, the Queen could feel something was wrong. For a human body, his was too squishy.
"You!? Who are you? A slime!?"
Realizing he couldn’t hide himself anymore, Rannor didn’t respond.
His body turned into slime, squishing through the gaps between the Soul Insect Queen’s fingers.
"Trying to escape? In my nest?"
The Soul Insect Queen roared.
It was a soul scream that would instantly kill any mortal.
The pressure slammed down.
The crawling insects froze for a split second, then scattered as the crystal ground cracked under the force.
