Modern Cultivation : The Strongest Couple Bonded by Vampire System-Chapter 641: Guardian
"Typical spoiled heir," Alex muttered as he shook his head.
After reading his memories, he felt making him a retard was still too good for him. ๐๐ฟ๐๐๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐ง๐ ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฅ.๐๐จ๐
This man had ruined hundreds of lives, and indirectly far more, all because of his whims and immaturity.
"So, did you get any information?"
Mingyue didnโt look interested at all. To her, he was nothing more than a momentary distraction.
Alex looked back toward the tunnel. "This whole asteroid seems to come from an ancient being, at least at progenitor level."
Mingyueโs eyes narrowed. "You mean this asteroid is part of their body?"
"It seems like fossilized remains," Alex said. "We should do more research, Mingyue. But be careful."
Mingyue nodded, then followed him back into the tunnel.
With the identity he took from the chief engineer, Alex moved without trouble.
He pressed his palm to a control plate.
[Access Granted.]
The formation barrier above the shaft flickered once, then stabilized.
They slipped through the checkpoint and dropped deeper.
The deeper they went, the more the air changed.
The corruption was stronger here. A thin black fog spread through the corridor, and every few breaths, the cleansing formations activated, scraping it away before it could spread too far.
Mingyueโs expression tightened. "If this really is part of a high-level being, then what is this corruption?"
Alex kept his eyes on the formations. "Probably some kind of lingering will. Or maybe itโs what killed the being."
He copied the cleansing pattern, formed a rune on his finger, and extended it ahead.
The rune light cleared the corrupt fog for a moment.
Alexโs thoughts kept turning. If these were the remains of a progenitor-level creature, it didnโt make sense for it to have no serious guards.
Anything from a being at this level should be high priority.
โDid the governor hide this information? But then how did he explain Spirit Ash production?โ
โOr are there so many places like this that this one is considered low priority?โ
While he was still thinking, they reached a bend where the corridor widened into a choke point.
A translucent shield blocked the path, layered with dense formations that made the air feel saturated with qi.
On both sides of the shield, two knight qilin statues stood like guards.
Their bodies were carved from dark stone and metal. Their armor was etched with strange formations that didnโt match the refineryโs other patterns.
The moment Alex stepped closer, their eyes lit up.
A bright red glow filled the sockets, and the statues moved.
"Standalone guardians," Alex said.
These two werenโt connected to the base formations at all. Alex couldnโt see their information, and he couldnโt trace their control line.
The qilin knights pulled free their weapons and dashed forward.
Mingyue moved.
Cold qi gathered in her palm.
SWOOSH!!!
A wave of frost wrapped both statues in an instant, turning them into solid ice.
They froze mid-strike, locked as glittering ice statues.
But the red light in their eyes didnโt go out.
Intense qi crept under the ice, spreading like veins.
The frost started to crack.
Mingyueโs gaze sharpened. "Theyโre stronger than the governor."
Alex stared at the guardians. "We need to finish them fast."
The ice shattered from within.
Both qilin knights stepped forward again, their armor leaking thin strands of dark haze qi.
Alex raised two fingers and traced a rune in the air. A camouflage formation spread around them like a clear dome.
Mingyue grew serious.
Her ice qi surged again, sharper and denser, forcing the temperature down toward absolute zero.
It still wasnโt enough. The two qilin knights kept moving as if nothing had changed.
Their blades swept down in wide arcs.
CLANG!!!
Alex met the first strike with a formation shield on his forearm. The impact shuddered through his bones.
He twisted his wrist and sent a thin rune thread into the statueโs elbow joint.
The thread caught on something, then got pushed back.
Alex felt the resistance clearly, like a protection mechanism that rejected foreign force.
"This wonโt be easy."
He had wanted to hijack the guardians, turn them off, or even make them his allies.
But the formations that made them were something he didnโt understand. If he wanted control, he would have to learn the structure first.
Mingyue slipped behind the second knight and drove an ice spike into the back of its knee.
BAM!!!
The statue stumbled, then forced itself upright, cracking the ice off its leg like it was nothing.
Its head snapped toward her.
The red glow in its eyes flared brighter.
Mingyueโs expression didnโt change. She lifted her hand, and the air around the statue turned white.
A second layer of ice formed, wrapping its torso and arms like restraints.
The statue kept moving.
The ice started to crack again.
Alex clicked his tongue and changed tactics.
He let the first knight push into him, redirected the blade to the side, and slammed his palm, rune first, against its chest.
BAM!!!!
A sealing formation flared.
The red light in the statueโs eyes flickered.
Mingyue seized the opening.
She grabbed the second knightโs wrist mid-swing and snapped it down with a burst of ice.
The arm locked for a second.
She used that moment to drive two ice shards straight into its eye sockets.
The statueโs head jerked, and its movements turned uneven.
Alex poured more strength into the sealing rune.
The first knight froze mid-step.
Its blade slid from its grip and hit the floor.
The second knight tried to attack again, but its legs didnโt respond. It staggered forward, then collapsed to one knee.
Mingyue walked up and placed her palm on its forehead. "Stay down."
Another layer of ice sealed its head and upper torso into a solid block.
For a moment, both statues were still.
Alex drew more runes and reinforced the seals on top of the bindings.
He didnโt understand their structure yet, so he needed to make sure they truly couldnโt move.
"Sleep for now, i will make sure to check both of you later."
