Modern Cultivation : The Strongest Couple Bonded by Vampire System-Chapter 598: A Wish
"Well, they do what couples usually do," Alex said. "They go on a date. Eat a meal together. Prepare gifts for each other."
He continued in his mind.
’Hold hands. Hug. Kiss. And then...’
He did not dare to say it out loud.
"A gift..." Mingyue murmured. "Should I prepare one too? I haven’t made any."
"It’s fine. It’s just a culture from the past."
Alex sighed. That world had already ceased to exist.
Even the new world he wanted to build would be different. It would be mixed with Edonia’s culture, not the one he remembered.
Mingyue thought for a moment. She observed the people in the city, then smiled. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Wait here."
She stood up, then disappeared.
’Is she looking for a gift for me?’ Alex thought. ’Damn... then I should make one too.’
He tried to think about what Mingyue liked, but she was different from most women he had known.
She did not like romantic things. She liked fighting.
’Should I create a new weapon for her? Or an artifact?’
’If I could finish the nascent spirit technique, it would be the best gift.’
While he was still thinking, Mingyue returned.
She sat beside him and took out a needle and thread.
In quick movements, she began to knit.
Her hands moved fast and precise, like she had done it many times.
"You’ve knitted before?" Alex asked.
"No," Mingyue said. "But it’s easy to copy. Far easier than learning martial arts."
Alex’s lips twitched. He knew it was true, but it still felt strange.
She could copy a craft like this the same way she copied techniques.
’Damn. I really need to prepare something for her.’
His mind churned. He wanted to give something precious and meaningful, but anything like that took time.
He looked at Mingyue’s hands.
’I’m struggling, yet she casually picked something meaningful and easy to make.’
’Should I just buy something for her?’
While he was still stuck in that dilemma, the thread and fabric took shape.
It was a scarf.
Mingyue wrapped it around Alex’s neck, then smiled.
A beautiful smile that made Alex’s heart skip a beat.
"This looks good on you," she said. "You can’t use it in a fight though. It will break easily." She tilted her head. "Do you like it?"
"Of course," Alex replied immediately, without hesitation.
He honestly did not care about fashion. He also did not need warmth.
But this was the first gift Mingyue had ever made for him.
To Alex, it was precious.
Mingyue exhaled and looked toward the orange sky.
She touched the phoenix necklace on her neck.
"What do you think they’re doing right now?" she asked.
Alex’s hand moved to her shoulder. He pulled her closer.
Mingyue leaned into him. Alex’s touch made her feel secure.
It was a strange feeling. She had never felt it before.
Usually, only her own strength could make her feel safe.
"I don’t know," Alex said. "But whatever they’re doing, I hope they’re doing it for us."
"Your father left with your mother. Meanwhile, my father left his family."
Alex’s voice stayed calm, but bitterness still lingered under it.
He knew it was not by choice at first.
But after that, Edward worked hard not to return.
Alex understood the reason, yet he still felt bitter.
"Other than couples," Mingyue asked, "is Christmas also a family holiday?"
She looked toward the city.
Many families were gathered together. They laughed and exchanged gifts.
It was a warm atmosphere, something Mingyue almost never experienced.
Only when she met Luca did she learn what a parent’s warmth and kindness looked like.
"If I grew up in a family like that, do you think I would have a different personality?"
"Of course you would," Alex said. "Even you, one year from now, will be different.
Every experience we face shapes our personality. Staying the same is impossible."
Mingyue looked down for a moment.
"But no matter what kind of personality you have," Alex continued, "you’re still Mingyue. That’s all that matters."
"I’m still Mingyue..." she repeated softly. "I see."
She lifted her head again.
"You’re right. That’s all that matters."
They looked at each other.
Their faces moved closer.
Their lips met, sealing together.
At first it was just a few pecks, but soon it turned into a deep kiss.
Time passed slowly for both of them, it’s like in the world only two of them exist.
As they separated, Mingyue’s cheeks turned red. She shyly looked away, igniting desire in Alex’s heart.
’Control yourself, Alex. Now is not the time,’ he muttered in his mind.
He looked toward the city again, then changed the topic.
"What made you decide to knit a scarf?"
"I saw that’s what most couples do," Mingyue said. "They either knit a scarf or a sweater."
She paused, then continued.
"I wanted to make a sweater, but I know it won’t last. You can’t use it in a fight, so it would tear easily."
"That’s why I made a scarf for now."
She glanced at him, still avoiding his eyes.
"I will find a way to infuse it with qi so it can hold stronger."
"After that, I will turn it into a sweater."
"So take care of it for now, okay?"
Alex nodded.
He knew a way to do it, but he also knew Mingyue wanted to do it with her own hands. That was why she never asked him to teach her.
"How about you, Mingyue?" Alex asked. "What do you want as a gift?"
"I want that."
Mingyue pointed at one of the houses.
Through the window, Alex could see a warm family gathered around a table. The father was cutting through a roast. The mother laughed softly while preparing plates for the kids.
Alex understood right away.
It was not that she wanted a child right now.
What she wanted was a warm family.
"I’m surprised," Alex said. "I thought you would ask for something for combat."
"Why do you think I keep polishing my skills, Alex?" Mingyue replied.
Her voice was calm, but the meaning hit hard.
"In a world where the strong eat the weak, only those with strength have the privilege to keep a loved one."
