Chapter 586: Home

A crystalline structure began to form along the edges of the new space.

Alex was creating pressure so extreme that the materials fused into a stronger state.

The crystal grew into thick walls and spread into pillars.

It formed a foundation that wrapped around the chamber like a reinforced shell.

Time passed on.

The shaking slowly calmed, and the empty space stabilized.

Alex was covered in sweat. He had spent a lot of energy to create this space.

"Alright," he said quietly. "This should hold."

Aira swallowed. "Uncle, what are you doing?"

"Just see for yourself."

The wall in front of them started to shake.

Alex pushed with a bit of strength, and it shattered, revealing the space behind it.

The light from Aira’s sphere reflected across the crystals, turning the chamber into a shimmering field of fractured glow.

If Mingyue were here, she would feel deja vu.

The place looked like the qi crystal mine where she fought a snake demonic beast.

The foundation that Alex made was perfect, but the space itself still needed a lot of work.

The ground was uneven, and only a few buildings showed part of their buried frames.

This city had clearly passed through a huge conflict.

Some structures were split in half, while others were bent at strange angles as if a giant force had crushed them from above.

Black scorch marks stained the exposed stone.

Layers of melted metal were fused into the rubble, hardened into warped sheets that looked like frozen waves.

Time had done the rest.

Cracks ran across the remaining walls, spreading like spiderwebs.

Columns that once supported streets or halls were now snapped, their broken ends buried under compacted earth.

Alex could clean everything, but he knew it would take a long time.

The calculations needed would be even more complicated.

Each building had endured too many years and too much damage. The materials were brittle, and he believed they would crumble with the slightest push.

"So this is your home, Uncle?"

"This is only a small part of the city. Your mother also came from here."

Alex began walking toward the Suzaku Guild base, the SGE, the Suzaku Genesis Complex.

The huge building filled with many facilities was still clear in Alex’s mind.

For him, not much time had passed since he last came here.

But for this world, it had become a distant era buried under disaster and time.

The time dilation was so large that he had truly traveled to the future.

What waited for him now was rubble, with barely anything left standing.

’Seems the goblins and Alice took everything that’s useful.’

He used his hand to move some debris aside, carefully clearing the ruin without disturbing the fragile remains.

Aira helped Alex clear up the area.

It took them some time since Alex did everything by hand.

Memories of the past started appearing.

The moment he built things. The moments with his sister. The moment of the experiments.

The people from the Suzaku Guild he had recruited. Their families. Each of them was his responsibility.

Alex took out a couch from his storage ring and slumped down, looking toward the crystal ceiling.

He then closed his eyes, seeming lost in deep thought.

Aira sat beside him, but she did not make a sound.

She did not want to disturb him.

She thought Alex was thinking about their next step.

But in reality, he was not.

He was taking a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.

Rage and anger started bubbling up in his heart.

He wanted nothing more than to shred everyone responsible to ashes.

But he knew that was not the best choice.

Doing it might make him feel better, but it would ruin many things.

After some more time, he opened his eyes.

"Artificial Intelligence. Do you know anything about it, Aira?"

"Of course, Uncle. It’s what manages our city.

It takes care of everything and sends reports to the Mechalyte."

"No. I mean, is the AI really from the Mechalyte?"

He saw Aira’s confused gaze.

"I mean the Mechalyte does have AI.

But are they really the one that made everything turn to chaos and become the catalyst of humanity’s destruction?"

"Oh, you mean Governor Darius’s story."

"At that time, in my knowledge, no one had the capability to take over the whole system. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Even for me, it was impossible, unless I spent a lot of time preparing."

"Where are you getting at, Uncle?"

"I’m just wondering if we have a sentient AI running wild and causing all this chaos.

I know the world leaders. They’re incompetent, indulgent, and selfish.

There’s no way they could pull all of this behind Solomon’s back."

Alex then stood up.

"Let’s go, Aira. I need to find out the truth of this."

"Where to, Uncle?"

"We will go to the Mechalyte. I’m tracking its location right now."

"Isn’t it already under your control?"

"Yes. But I cannot communicate with it from this far away."

It was not that Alex did not have any method to do this.

He just wanted to avoid any risk that could expose the Mechalyte he had taken control of.

Right now, the Mechalyte was moving from the tower toward one of the dark zones.

"Dark zones are filled with anomalies that destroy any established rules," Alex said.

"They’re filled with exotic materials. I wonder why they don’t take over it all."

"Maybe they find it not useful," Aira said. "What they need is life force."

"I doubt it," Alex replied.

"They’re connected to the universe. That means they can sell it for credit and buy what they need."

As a species focused on technology, Alex believed they needed a lot of resources to experiment and push forward their civilization.

That meant they should be mining those exotic materials.

The question was how, and who was doing it.

Based on his knowledge, all humanity that survived either turned into batteries or became city lords.

That meant there had to be something else taking care of the mining.

It was possible other Mechalyte units were handling the dark zones.

But Alex doubted it.

If that were true, the situation would be different.

There would be more fortifications and more systems in place.
