Chapter 703 Four Pillars: A New Outlook

Darkness.

Expecting himself to be possibly thrown into a world of flames due to how it had something to do with the Intent Seed he had chosen to expound on, Valyr felt somewhat confused to see himself be thrown into a world of darkness yet again.

Then again, it did not take long for the darkness to disappear as it was swiftly replaced with a landscape that he had just become familiar with.

"The Gates of Enlightenment…" he muttered.

From what looked to be from a bird's eye view, Valyr witnessed the Gates of Enlightenment before him in its heyday, watching people of all types move through the various buildings littered within the courtyard. 𝘧𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝑏𝑛𝑜𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝘮

Looking at the lavish clothes most of the people wore within the courtyard, the young man began to wonder when the Triad Gates had been created.

From the information he had gotten from Ryvrthe, there was a high chance for the Triad Gates to be an organization that appeared before or during the Great Cataclysm.

After all, the goal of the organization was to let humanity continue to prosper, which held meaning when one thought about the events that transpired during the Great Cataclysm.

However, with him getting a firsthand look at the people that roamed about the courtyard he explored earlier for loot, Valyr had a feeling that the Triad Gates was possibly made closer to the Age of Uprising or the Age of Innovation.

Of course, the young man did not come to this conclusion without any basis.

From what he had inferred through the inheritance so far, as well as the information he had gotten from Ryvrthe and the memory orb, the human civilization of the past was technologically advanced in multiple ways.

On the other hand, the architecture that existed within the Triad Gates alone told nothing of the technological advancements the human civilization of the past used to have.

Instead, it was more in-line with the structures that existed within the outside world, the buildings within the courtyard having a crude feel to them when compared to the buildings the humans of the past had built.

'Then again, it's not like I'd get an answer to that question that easily.'

In the end, Valyr decided to shelf the question for the meantime since the purpose of the opportunity before him was to expound his understanding over the Intent Seed of Forging.

Coincidentally, just as he had finished delving through his earlier thoughts, the sight before him swiftly shifted towards a certain part of the courtyard that Valyr used to have plans of going to.

'The Enlightened Forge.'

Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!

Seeing as he had been given the ability to move about in this opportunity, Valyr began to head inside the forge he eventually decided not to head to earlier, soon finding himself in front of the heart of the forge.

Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!

As metal continued to collide with metal, the young man stared at the back of the figure hammering away at the anvil for a bit, noticing that the figure's movements were quite refined.

Moving closer towards the figure to get a better idea of what they were doing, Valyr was instantly left at a loss for words when he found that the one working on the anvil was in fact an old man.

"…" Though the man's hair had thinned and grayed out due to time, the old man continued to move his arms at a consistent pace, swinging his hammer as if he were in his prime.

Then again, if one were to ignore the man's face and focus on the man's body, one would undoubtedly think that the man was in his prime.

Or perhaps, one would think that the man was middle-aged, yet worked out often to keep their body in check.

Yet, against all odds, the man working on the forge was a man that looked in his late seventies, perhaps early eighties.

'There's no doubt in my mind that this man is definitely beyond a hundred years old by now,' thought Valyr to himself.

'I wouldn't even be surprised if he's already surpassed two hundred years.'

Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!

Oblivious to the thoughts that went on in the young man's mind, the old man continued to hammer away at the piece of metal he was working on, gradually refining its shape to the piece of equipment he aimed to create.

"Haah…" Swiftly dousing the finished piece into a vat of oil with a pair of tongs, the old man tossed the finished item to the side as he let out a sigh.

"That's a hundred blades done," said the old man as he lazily stretched his body. "All I need to do now is to attached a hilt and a handle to them and they'll turn into a fine set of swords."

Placing his hammer on the anvil, the old man moved away from his workplace as he began to complain. "Then again, why did the leader ask for a hundred blades all of a sudden? Are we going to face a skirmish of some sort?"

"Or must there be some kind of war going on?" muttered the old man as he looked out of one of the building's windows.

"The courtyard's as peaceful as ever… doesn't seem like there's an upcoming war."

In the end, the old man returned to the anvil and shrugged his shoulders. "Well, whatever. As long as my efforts are being paid."

"In any case, I suppose I should relax a bit before proceeding to make those swords."

Hearing those words, Valyr expected the man to head outside the forge for a bit and wander around the courtyard.

After all, forging for quite a long time messed with the senses, especially for the old man who had forged a hundred blades at this point.

Yet, rather than do just that…

The old man decided to continue forging.

Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!

"???" Watching the old man grab a nearby piece of raw material and chuck into the furnace, Valyr felt extreme confusion as to how the current situation was considered relaxation.

Though, as he watched the old man continue to work on the material he had chucked in, Valyr began to understand why the old man said those words.

Compared to the skill he had shown while forging the blade…

The skill the old man was showing was on an entirely new level.
