Chapter 1776: Fighting a Rank 7 (8)

Grooooaaarrrr!!!

Just as those words left Ataraxia’s mouth, the Elder Wyvern in the distance let out a roar all of a sudden, making everyone think that it had heard him and accepted his words of challenge.

Yet, rather than be deterred and intimidated by the roar, the young man felt more invigorated to fight the Elder Wyvern.

After all, with the new set of spells he had access to, combined with the other tricks he still had up his sleeve, the chances of him killing it were now high, if not certain.

With that, he looked at Valyr, who merely nodded back at him in return as the two made their way out of the barrier.

Whoosh!

Making great use of their high agility, the two deftly crossed the uneven and dangerous terrain of the Infernal Badlands.

In a matter of seconds, the few hundred meters that separated them from the Elder Wyvern was reduced down to just a couple hundred, prompting both of their expressions to turn serious as they gradually slowed down their pace.

"You think they can do it?" Standing within the comforts of the sturdy multi-layered barrier, Hath glanced at the duo for a bit before asking Mystia a question.

"Well..." Pondering over the question for a bit, the latter eventually gave him a slight shrug. "I don’t know if the upcoming fight will be as quick as the one they had against the Blazing Direwolf..."

"But..." She gave him a slight smile. "I get the feeling that they’ll still win in the end."

Briefly stunned by the confidence he felt brimming from Mystia’s words, Hath could not help but think back to the great calm and ease Ataraxia and Valyr showed while fighting against the Blazing Direwolf earlier.

Looking at the two continuing to get closer to the Elder Wyvern after that, the man went silent for a bit before asking Mystia once more. "You really think they can do it?"

"No." The latter shook her head as the smile on her face turned into a playful grin.

"I know they can do it."

Swoosh!

Seeing that they were only just a bit over a hundred meters away from where the Elder Wyvern stood, Valyr and Ataraxia hastily took cover behind a random boulder before planning out their next course of action.

’Just in case you forget, you’ll be doing all the killing,’ said Valyr through [Soul Entanglement]. ’At most, I’ll only help you aggro the Elder Wyvern if things go south.’

’After all, you wouldn’t be able to get [Apex Hunter] if I actually attacked it.’

’Don’t worry.’ Ataraxia nodded in understanding, giving his soon-to-be enemy a brief glance. ’If all things go according to plan, I’d most likely kill the Elder Wyvern before you even have to make a move.’

The young man smiled soon after. ’Of course, I’ll be using [Soul Unification] to increase my chances.’

’I’d be more surprised if you didn’t need to use it,’ replied Valyr, nodding as if it were a matter of fact.

Whoosh!

Taking out the flintlock from his spatial bracelet, he went ahead and gave it to Ataraxia as he took out a bit of gunpowder and a couple of bullets soon after.

Receiving all of the items his other self gave him, the latter gave the former a slight nod as he began to arm the flintlock for firing.

At the same time, he went ahead and began his other preparations.

"[Limit Break]."

"[Maximum Arcane Liberation]."

"[Oculus’ Combat Veil]."

Swoosh!

Having Valyr conjure a barrier around them beforehand, Ataraxia proceeded to activate all of the buffing skills and spells he had in his arsenal while his hands continue to move.

By the time the flintlock was ready to be used, the young man felt his strength reach an unprecedented realm, making him feel as if he had pushed his stats to a level where it was boosted by [Descent of the Arcane Supreme].

But of course, with the skill in question still not activated, he knew that there was a lot more he could do.

’Let’s do 20% for now.’ Checking to see if their actions had caught the Elder Wyvern’s attention, Ataraxia turned to look at Valyr after seeing that they were still in the clear.

’With skills activated or without?’

’With. I don’t want to risk it.’

’Alright.’ Heeding the words his other self said to him, Valyr went ahead and activated his usual set of buffs, saving the ones he used for difficult fights for the meantime.

Swoosh!

Within seconds, the aura surrounding him reached a level that matched what his other self was giving off.

Though, with how many more buffing skills he had in his arsenal, it did not take long for him to exceed it.

’Shall we proceed?’ Although a bit of jealousy briefly appeared on Ataraxia’s face because of what unfolded beside him, that expression was soon replaced with calm as he asked Valyr if he was ready.

After all, part of that strength was going to become his soon enough.

’Let’s begin.’

As the latter nodded in response to the question, the two gave the Elder Wyvern yet another look.

Confirming that their actions still hadn’t caught its attention, the two gave each other a knowing glance before proceeding to activate a skill they hadn’t used in quite some time.

’[Soul Unification].’

’[20% Fusion].’

Fwoosh!

At the very instant the skill was activated, both Valyr and Ataraxia felt as if part of their bodies were being fused in every aspect possible.

Though this sensation was uncomfortable, that discomfort was soon replaced with the feeling of great power coursing through them, with Ataraxia feeling it more than Valyr.

’I think we can push it to 50%,’ the young man said after giving himself some time to adjust to the increased strength he currently wielded. ’Any higher and we might catch the Elder Wyvern’s attention before I can even attack.’

’How about that one skill?’ Slowly adjusting the output of [Soul Unification] to move towards 50%, Valyr looked at his other self with a raised eyebrow. ’Don’t tell me you’re not planning on using it for the fight.’

’Oh, I am. Don’t worry.’ As those words left his mouth, Ataraxia laid himself flat on the ground as he aimed the flintlock towards the still oblivious Elder Wyvern. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Activating both [The First Gunslinger’s Wisdom] and [The First Gunslinger’s Patience] soon after, he let out a long exhale as he continued to keep an eye on his opponent’s movements.

’I’ll activate it just as I attack.’

’But you won’t get the most out of the skill if you do that,’ said Valyr, giving the young man’s idea a bit of thought. ’Sure, it might double your stats the moment you activate it, but the skill can increase that boost to triple, no?’

’That’s true... but that’s not what I’m focusing on,’ replied Ataraxia through their connection, his mind continuing to keep track of the seconds that passed.

’Instead, I’m focusing on the upgrade it does to concepts once activated.’

As those words echoed in Valyr’s mind, the young man beside him gave him a slight grin.

’Just so you know...’

’I’m planning to use [Intent of Tranquil Winds] with it.’
