MMORPG: I was BUGGED-Chapter 283: Beacon of Hope
Victor paused, shocked at the turn of events. It wasn’t only the players; even the NPCs were being consumed by the strange ailment.
Victor sighed, accepting defeat. This was it... once an NPC died, even just one, it was game over.
Suddenly, exhaustion caught up to him, and he teetered in and out of consciousness. Ragnarok Reaper’s body fell to the ground, followed by Victor, until strong arms caught him.
Looking over, Victor saw a hazy silhouette. It was small but buff and covered with armor.
"W-who?"
Victor didn’t get the chance to fully discern the person before consciousness failed him.
On the other hand, Hilda effortlessly carried Victor and Ragnarok Reaper’s bodies on each side of her shoulder.
"Up we go," Hilda said as she gathered momentum, blinking from her location to the grand hall of the town hall where players were currently gathered for care.
Amidst the bustling activity of players attending to the fallen and crafting cures, no one paid attention to Hilda.
Wiping invisible sweat off her face, Hilda sighed.
"Why did Lord Schrodinger ask me to save this guy and the players? They should just die so I could freely move together with him in this town," she muttered to herself, fidgeting.
"But, but . . . its Lord Schrodinger’s request, so who am I to refuse? Should I really help the players here and risk not being with Lord Schrodinger all the time? This is such a rare opportunity. Ah! What should a beautiful lady do?"
"Hey, you!"
Hilda turned towards the voice and found herself face-to-face with a beautiful woman with long, straight black hair.
"Which unit are you from?" Maya asked, looking at the dwarf named Hilda. "Hilda?"
Maya wondered if they had a player named Hilda in their team.
Oh no! Hilda internally screamed. She didn’t have time to change or hide her name when the fog descended. Everything was in a rush and urgent, and she hadn’t thought about it at all.
And just when Lord Schrodinger asked her to be careful and be inconspicuous.
Hilda felt a pang of disappointment at her blunder but quickly gathered her thoughts.
Wait . . . no one had to know. She should just eliminate her!
Player wouldn’t be able to kill players here, but it was different with NPCs.
Hilda’s eyes sparkled with glee. That’s right! She was a genius!
It would only be quick. A hard, swift punch should do the trick.
Hilda’s face twisted into a menacing smile, but Maya couldn’t see it behind her full-body armor. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"Agh! Isn’t that Ragnarok Reaper?!" Maya suddenly shouted. "What on earth! His HP is low! You should have thrown an HP potion at him to keep his health up! He’s going to die, you know!"
Maya swiftly went over to Ragnarok Reaper and administered HP potions just in time when his HP was only in single digits.
She also did the same for Victor.
While Maya was on her knees, tending to the two, her back was facing Hilda.
Seeing an opportunity, Hilda, with determination, raised her hand high, aiming for a critical hit on Maya’s head when she suddenly felt something behind her.
Turning, Hilda almost jumped out of her skin when she saw Lord Schrodinger looking at her with a stern gaze. Though she couldn’t see him amidst the robe, she could almost sense his expression, and it wasn’t a happy one.
The two then began to converse using silent words that only they could understand.
’What are you doing?’
Hilda fidgeted. ’I . . . I was just going to kill her . . . swiftly.’
’Why?’
’S-she . . . she saw my name . . .’
". . ."
". . ."
There was silence between the two, and Hilda began to feel on edge the more Lord Schrodinger just looked at her.
He then sighed and signaled Hilda. ’It’s fine, as long as she didn’t see your face. Go and bring in more players here, and make sure to avoid her for now.’
Hilda nodded, her head bobbing up and down, and within a blink, she disappeared just in time for Maya to face their direction.
"Huh? Where’s that dwarf?" Maya said, confused.
She then shifted her attention to X and asked, "Have you seen a player here named Hilda?"
Xin shook his head. "No."
Maya was confused, and she turned her gaze around, but then she shook her head and addressed the current problem.
"You seem fine. Help me with taking care of these players. Do you have enough HP potions with you?" Maya bombarded X with a lot of questions. "How about materials? Do you have extra masks? What items are in your inventory right now? We need all the materials available to make masks and a cure."
While Maya was barraging him with questions, Xin calmly said, "I have masks created as well as a cure for this sickness."
"Ah! That’s right, we also need enough potions! The NPCs are also being afflicted by this disease! Do you think that you can ask Poppy and the other NPCs to lend us their resources? This is no time to be stingy and . . ."
Maya paused, Xin’s words sinking into her mind. "Wait . . . did you just say that you have masks and the cure?"
Xin nodded and proceeded to explain before she could start talking nonstop again. "This sickness is called Abyssal Affliction, and the cure is called Eclipsarum Elixir. For now, let’s administer the cure to Ragnarok Reaper first and have him wear this mask so he wouldn’t be afflicted with the sickness again."
After all, they couldn’t equip anything on the player when they’re unconscious; only they could equip anything on their body via placing the mask in their equipment slots.
Maya looked at the mask and potion in X’s hands. It was a strange mask, one that she hadn’t seen before considering her title as the greatest Alchemist from all the players.
The mask’s surface was adorned with intricate etchings resembling mystical runes. A subtle aura surrounded the mask, indicating that it wasn’t ordinary.
On the other hand, the potion, a small, ornate vial crafted from enchanted crystal, emitting a soft, ethereal glow. The liquid within shimmered with a mysterious luminescence, hinting at its potent properties.
Maya could only stare at the items with gaping mouth, speechless and shock, didn’t know what question to ask first.
