Chapter 226: The Sea Soul Demonic Jade Necklace

"Alright."

Marcus nodded to Anya and Chloe.

He was genuinely curious about what the highest tier of the Temple Guardian class would become. According to the description on the Dragon’s Crest, advancing now would elevate him to the ultimate form of the class: the Temple Knight.

Just as he equipped the Dragon’s Crest and prepared to activate Dragon Soul Ascension, the Old Man suddenly spoke.

"Stone... you’re planning to advance your class right now?"

Marcus paused mid-motion and glanced at him. The question itself wasn’t strange, but the appraiser’s expression was.

"Yeah. Is there a problem?"

"No... no, not at all."

The Old Man lowered his head immediately and began fiddling with the other pieces of equipment on the counter, acting as though he were suddenly very busy.

The reaction was far too deliberate. Marcus narrowed his eyes slightly.

’There’s definitely a problem.’

The old man had clearly said more than he intended and was now trying to pretend nothing had happened.

"Grandpa Appraiser," Anya said, leaning forward slightly, her sharp gaze fixed on him. "Is there some reason Marcus shouldn’t use the Dragon’s Crest right now? Or is there something important he should know?"

It wasn’t just Marcus who had noticed. Chloe had also picked up on the strange tone in the Old Man’s voice.

The Old Man waved his hand dismissively.

"I was just asking. Don’t read too much into it."

He didn’t even bother looking up. The scene was so blatantly evasive that it bordered on ridiculous.

This was supposed to be the only Grandmaster Appraiser on the Dreamland Continent, a man who could identify legendary artifacts without blinking. Yet here he was, dropping hints and then pretending nothing had happened.

Marcus silently judged him.

’You’ve got some nerve, old man.’

Getting their hopes up only to suddenly close his mouth was not only irritating, it was shameless.

Of course, Marcus had no intention of letting him escape that easily.

"Well then, Old man," Marcus said with a thoughtful sigh, deliberately lifting the crest again, "I guess I’ll just go ahead and use it."

He glanced at the artifact thoughtfully, as if the decision were already made.

"If something goes wrong and my strength ends up developing poorly, that’s not really a big deal. Worst case, I die to some monster later."

He paused, letting the words hang in the air before continuing in a tone that sounded almost regretful.

"But imagine if a dark-attribute treasure appeared right in front of me and I wasn’t strong enough to get it... or even worse, I didn’t recognize it when I saw it."

Marcus shook his head slowly.

"That would be a real tragedy."

The implication could not have been more obvious.

’If you keep your mouth shut today, then even if I find that treasure tomorrow, you’ll be waiting a very long time before you ever see it.’

"You rotten brat!"

The Old Man exploded before Marcus could finish speaking. His beard trembled with fury as his face flushed red.

"You’re doing this on purpose!"

He coughed twice in agitation, then finally slumped slightly, letting out a long, resigned sigh.

"The Dragon’s Crest can only be used once every thousand years," he muttered irritably. "Your innate talents haven’t awakened yet. If you wait until they do, you’ll be able to draw out the crest’s full potential."

Marcus remained perfectly calm throughout the outburst.

It wasn’t cruelty. It was simply practicality. As the saying went: every man for himself.

The Old Man clearly regretted letting the information slip, but now that he had, Marcus had seized the advantage.

The appraiser grumbled under his breath, looking thoroughly annoyed. What he truly wanted was for Marcus to grow stronger as quickly as possible and help him find that dark-attribute treasure.

Unfortunately, he had spoken carelessly, and Marcus had heard it.

"In that case," Anya said immediately, nodding firmly, "Marcus should wait."

Chloe, meanwhile, looked back and forth between Marcus and the Old Man with open disbelief.

She still couldn’t quite process what had just happened.

Marcus had somehow cornered the most powerful appraiser on the continent and forced him to reveal something he clearly hadn’t intended to say.

"...Mmm."

Marcus simply hummed in agreement, smiling faintly. For now, advancing his class could wait.

But the Old Man’s words lingered in his mind.

’Innate talents...’

What exactly did that mean? And more importantly, how had the Old Man been able to see them?

Marcus considered asking directly, but one glance at the appraiser’s thunderous expression convinced him otherwise.

Pushing his luck too far would only backfire.

Some things in this world were governed by system rules. If the system hadn’t revealed something yet, forcing the issue wouldn’t help.

Still, the word talent stirred a memory.

Marcus suddenly recalled the three mysterious skills he had received when he created his character. Back then, the system had awarded them as bonuses for maxing out his core attributes.

He immediately opened his skill menu.

---

Soul of Attack – Not activated. Effects unknown.

Boiling Blood – Not activated. Effects unknown.

Heart of Agility – Not activated. Effects unknown.

---

The system had granted these three abilities because he had pushed his Strength, Constitution, and Agility to their limits during character creation.

Yet none of them had ever activated.

Could these be the "talents" the Old Man was referring to?

A reward granted directly by the system was unlikely to be something ordinary, yet Marcus still had no idea how to awaken them.

For now, all he could do was wait. Marcus glanced down at his chest.

Between the newly equipped Dragon’s Crest, the Explorer’s Medallion, the Eagle’s Crest he had received from Hunter Wayne, and the Golden Wolf Badge from the Dragon Dynasty, his chest was practically covered in gleaming medals.

Thankfully, these items didn’t occupy equipment slots. Otherwise, managing them would have been a nightmare.

’What’s meant to be will be,’ he thought, finally pushing the matter aside.

For now, there was something far more interesting waiting on the counter. Marcus shifted his attention back to the newly appraised equipment.
