Mercenary's War-Chapter 1992 - 1969: Damn Sense of Direction
What is Gao Yang skilled at, what is his greatest ability? 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Gao Yang’s strongest skill, unquestionably, is his gunmanship, but what ranks second among his skills?
The second strongest skill in Gao Yang’s arsenal isn’t his signature Groin Kick, nor anything else, but his running.
The ability to run, undying while running, and no matter how he runs, he never tires to death. This is Gao Yang’s strongest skill aside from gunmanship.
To be more specific, it is the combination of shooting and running. In this world, no one can match Gao Yang in combining shooting and running. Not only can he shoot and run, but Gao Yang can also utilize Trace Identification, ensuring the enemy can’t escape no matter how they run. Therefore, in the art of running and shooting, Gao Yang is the best in the world.
Those who run better than Gao Yang definitely lack in marksmanship, and sharpshooters whose gunmanship rivals Gao Yang’s surely can’t run as well. So, a sniper chased by Gao Yang, even if not shot dead, might be exhausted to death anyway.
As for now, Alexander and his team aren’t completely immobile. Being elites among elites, running ten kilometers wouldn’t collapse them, but the problem is they are over fifty, and running ten kilometers straight might leave them barely able to move, and it’s questionable how much combat capability they could still exert.
Gao Yang squatted and aimed at Specter, but quickly felt the distance was too far and shooting wouldn’t be guaranteed. It was better to close the distance a bit more, however, Alexander and the others really couldn’t keep up.
Gao Yang felt warmed up, while Koval and Alexander were panting like dogs—how could they keep up?
"You rest a bit and then come along, I’ll chase first on my own. You are... too slow..."
Koval resolutely said, "No way! I must, I must, I must..."
Gao Yang looked concerned, "Even your breath is uneven, how can you even finish your sentence? I’ll wait for you so we can run together."
Koval took a couple of deep breaths, then waved his hand and sat down heavily on the ground.
Alexander pointed in Specter’s direction, panting, "Can you see?"
"I can see."
"Can you catch up?"
"Very easily, can’t you tell?"
Alexander looked utterly defeated, panting as he said, "Then, no matter how fast Specter is, I’d still like to try taking him down."
Gao Yang glanced at Alexander, shook his head, and said helplessly, "Let’s put it this way, if you all don’t hold me back, I am already kilometers ahead of Specter."
"Ah, go on, we’ll catch up. If you feel unsure, you can wait for us to take action together."
Gao Yang nodded, turned around, and resumed running, yelling aloud, "Wait for my good news."
At his most comfortable pace, Gao Yang ran effortlessly, but after a few hundred meters, he discovered Specter was still running forward.
Assessing Specter’s and his own speed, Gao Yang realized that to close the distance enough to ensure a certain shot, he needed to run at least ten more minutes.
Just ten minutes, it’s no big deal.
Gao Yang sped up, running for about ten minutes, occasionally using his gun to check Specter’s position and distance. Finally, at a distance of roughly four hundred meters, Gao Yang stopped and aimed at Specter’s silhouette.
This shot was inevitable and assuredly accurate, yet Gao Yang suddenly felt that firing directly might not be very safe.
From a distance of four hundred meters, a shot to the torso would undoubtedly hit, but Gao Yang remembered Specter probably wearing body armor. It was safer to aim for smaller targets such as the head or legs. Given Specter’s movement and the distance, aiming for the legs wasn’t very safe.
Not safe enough? Just close in a bit more, that’s all.
So Gao Yang narrowed the distance to less than three hundred meters, and at this point, Specter suddenly changed direction.
Specter was running northeast, but suddenly turned north and in that instant, raised his gun towards Gao Yang.
Could he be discovered?
Gao Yang admired Specter’s keen awareness, even after retreating over ten kilometers. Yet, he remained vigilant for any movements behind.
Gao Yang held the advantage, with no intention of dodging.
Just before Specter fired, Gao Yang had already pulled the trigger, knowing full well Specter’s shot wouldn’t hit him.
The gunshot rang, and Specter finally fell.
Gao Yang knew this time Specter had truly lost any ability to act. His shot hit Specter’s groin, effectively crippling a leg. Death wouldn’t be immediate, but survival wouldn’t be long either.
Upon confirming the hit, Gao Yang felt as if a weight lifted from his chest, that constricted breath suddenly flowed naturally.
Taking a few steps forward, Gao Yang noticed that even though Specter collapsed, he still moved, shakily raising his gun.
Aware of Specter’s prowess, Gao Yang fired promptly and moved swiftly while crouching.
After instinctively reacting, Gao Yang couldn’t help but laugh self-deprecatingly. Given the situation, he could have leisurely blown Specter’s head off. Yet, the psychological pressure Specter exerted forced him to take the safest option.
Now, without any worry, Gao Yang rushed towards Specter.
With Specter’s inevitable fate, Gao Yang needed to see—the entity that imposed unprecedented pressure upon him.
Soon Gao Yang identified Specter lying supine in the grass. As expected, a shot hit the intersection of her thigh and abdomen, another on the right shoulder. She lay motionless, with the sniper rifle dropped beside, certainly no threat now.
Only upon moving closer and clearly seeing Specter did Gao Yang feel a heavy stone pounding against him, rendering him almost unsteady.
Without a bulletproof vest, Specter’s upper body wore just a sports bra, underneath was only underwear, and boots donned her feet.
Indeed, Specter was female; she required a bra.
Despite lying in the grass, covered in bloodstains, her gender was distinctly recognizable.
With a ponytail, wearing a night vision device on her head, chest heaving vigorously, seemingly a young Caucasian woman.
Gao Yang was stunned by his realization; a dozen meters from Specter, he came to a halt.
Gao Yang stood dumbfounded, overwhelmed by a strong impact, gazing at the woman still gasping heavily—the sniper causing him the greatest pressure since entering the industry, a rescuer of the Iron Madonna—Specter was actually a woman.
Gao Yang was utterly dazed, and just then, Specter slowly lifted her head, lowly asked upon seeing Gao Yang, "Please tell me, which way is west."
Gao Yang mechanically raised his hand, shouting aloud, "West."
Specter’s head fell heavily back into the grass, filled with rage and regret, "That damned sense of direction..."
