Medical and Martial God-Chapter 89: Is the Watermelon Ripe?
"Just a little joke," Ye Xiu said, patting Murong’s shoulder. "Tell me the basis for your judgment."
Murong glared at Ye Xiu with a pout, but she still began her analysis. "Zheng Yiwen convinced your father to expel you and your mother from the Ye Family, all so that she, his mistress, could take your mother’s place. After she succeeded, her position was secure. Even when you won the Medicine King title ten years ago and returned to the Ye Family, you couldn’t have threatened her position. She had plenty of ways to disqualify you from claiming the family inheritance.
"Yet, she chose to destroy your reputation and drive you to ruin. That move was too foolish, because if it failed, the public backlash alone could have destroyed the Ye Family.
"I don’t think Zheng Yiwen could have overlooked that, yet she went through with it anyway. She must have had a compelling reason. I suspect someone forced her to do it."
After listening to Murong’s analysis, Ye Xiu looked at her with new respect. This girl really didn’t need to eat any more walnuts to boost her brainpower.
"Master, do you know who killed Zheng Yiwen?" the Ghost Doctor asked.
"I do," Ye Xiu nodded.
"Who is it?" the Ghost Doctor pressed.
"You don’t need to know that for now," Ye Xiu replied. "Immediately send our two brothers back to Headquarters for burial. Also, return Zheng Yiwen’s body to the Ye Family."
With that, he and Murong left.
The Ghost Doctor frowned. Although he was Ye Xiu’s disciple and one of the Thirteen Protecters of Huang Quan, he always felt that Ye Xiu didn’t fully trust him and was reluctant to share many of his secrets. However, he didn’t complain about Ye Xiu, nor did he feel he had the right to.
Ye Xiu took Murong to an empty hospital room and explained the Cold Ice Technique’s Internal Cultivation Methods to her, word by word. Once he confirmed that Murong had no more questions, he left the Holy Peace Medical College alone.
While waiting for a taxi at the school gate, Ye Xiu received a call from Mo Luo.
"Young Master, we’ve found the killer."
Killing Intent flared in Ye Xiu’s eyes. "Send me his information and location."
Mo Luo replied, "Understood!"
「Family Fortune Fruit Supermarket」
Long Bo sat at the entrance, cracking melon seeds. He said to a young man, "Go to Yunluo City. At the Panlong Pavilion, post a 100-million bounty for Ye Xiu’s left arm."
The young man nodded and left without a word.
Long Bo then took out his phone and sent a text message: "Have the Willow Family release the news about a bounty on Ye Xiu’s left arm."
Posting the bounty from two different sources would allow assassins and mercenaries from all over the world to accept the mission. Furthermore, it would create the illusion that the Willow Family was the one who posted the bounty, thus concealing his own involvement.
A young man wearing sunglasses and a mask approached and asked, "Boss, how much for the watermelons?"
It was Ye Xiu!
"Two-fifty a pound," Long Bo responded lazily, not recognizing him as he continued to crack his melon seeds.
"Is it guaranteed to be ripe?" Ye Xiu asked, picking up a watermelon and tapping it.
"What kind of question is that? I’m a fruit seller. You think I’d sell you an unripe watermelon?" Long Bo said, annoyed.
Ye Xiu repeated, "I’m asking if you guarantee it’s ripe."
"Guaranteed ripe, or your money back," Long Bo snapped, his impatience growing at Ye Xiu’s aggressive tone.
"Alright then. Cut this one open. If it’s not ripe, I’m not buying," Ye Xiu said, handing the watermelon to Long Bo.
"Fine!"
Long Bo grabbed a fruit knife and sliced the watermelon in half, only for thick, watery juice to pour out from both sides.
At the sight, Long Bo’s gaze sharpened. My watermelons are fine, I’m sure of it. But he just tapped it a few times and the inside turned to juice... That’s not something an ordinary person can do. This man is an Ancient Martial Arts expert!
Long Bo immediately became cautious. "My apologies, so sorry about that," he said, forcing a laugh. "Let me get you another one."
He personally selected another watermelon, cut it open, and said, "This one is excellent. Shall I weigh it for you?"
"Did I say I wanted that one?" Ye Xiu asked coldly.
Long Bo’s brow furrowed. "Sir, if you’re here to buy fruit, you’re welcome. If you’re here to cause trouble, I’m sorry, but you’re not."
"I am here to make trouble!"
Suddenly, Ye Xiu kicked Long Bo squarely in the chest, sending him flying from the storefront into the back of the shop. He then followed him inside, casually shutting the door.
Long Bo soared backward, crashing through a shelf and landing in a heap of fruit. He didn’t care about the mess; the fruit shop was just a cover for his identity, not something he relied on for money.
What shocked him was Ye Xiu’s power. Even though he had been caught off guard, no ordinary Ancient Martial Arts expert should have been able to touch him. He instantly assessed Ye Xiu’s strength. An Eighth Grade Grandmaster! Or maybe even a Great Grandmaster!
He got to his feet and asked, "Who are you? Why are you making trouble for me?"
Ye Xiu took off his sunglasses and mask. "Now you know why I’m here, don’t you?"
The moment Long Bo saw Ye Xiu’s face, his heart skipped a beat. Of course he could guess why Ye Xiu had come, but he couldn’t understand how he’d found out so quickly that he had killed Zheng Yiwen, much less pinpointed his location.
"You must be the Divine Doctor Ye! My apologies, but I don’t believe I’ve done anything to offend you?" Long Bo feigned ignorance with a fawning smile, trying to gauge if Ye Xiu really knew he was the killer.
"What? Did you think I wouldn’t find out you killed Zheng Yiwen and two of my subordinates?" Ye Xiu asked icily.
Long Bo’s heart lurched. So, Ye Xiu really knew.
He dropped the pretense and asked curiously, "How did you find me so quickly?"
"That was easy for me, but I have no reason to tell you," Ye Xiu said, his face cold. "Now, I need you to answer a few questions."
"Ask away," Long Bo said with a smile, having already decided on his plan: I’ll capture him alive and check his left arm for the dragon tattoo. If it’s not there, I’ll kill him.
"What’s your name?" Ye Xiu asked.
"Wang Gensheng," Long Bo replied.
"I’m not asking for your alias. I want your real name," Ye Xiu said.
"Now that, I can’t tell you," Long Bo said with a shrug.
"Actually, you don’t have to. You’re from the Long Family, one of the watchdogs, aren’t you?" Ye Xiu stated calmly.
"You..." Long Bo’s face changed drastically. "You... how did you know?"
"I know more than you can imagine. I also know that ten years ago, it was the Long Family who instructed Zheng Yiwen to ruin my reputation and murder my mother and grandparents. You don’t even realize how foolish you’ve been. If you hadn’t killed Zheng Yiwen, I never would have discovered that the Long Family was the true mastermind behind everything back then."
"You..." Long Bo was stunned, suddenly realizing he had completely underestimated Ye Xiu. This guy is too clever. He figured everything out just from Zheng Yiwen’s death.
