Medical and Martial God-Chapter 61: Qin Qing’s Worries
*Cousin?*
Qin Qing struggled to hold back her laughter. So that’s why Ye Xiu is with Yun Lan and Zhu Xiaowen. He wants to use Zhu Xiaowen’s connections to sneak into the Ming Feng Pavilion! And he must have been worried Luo Qiwei would do something to me, which is why he followed along to protect me. At this thought, a wave of warmth spread through her heart.
"He... he’s a member of the Zhu Family?" Luo Qiwei looked at Ye Xiu incredulously, his face instantly flushing red. He remembered how he had tried to show off in front of Ye Xiu at the airport, even giving him a tip. What a complete slap in the face!
"Young Master Luo, I paid you the courtesy of attending your party and even brought my cousin to introduce him to you, yet this is how you treat him?" Zhu Xiaowen feigned anger and spoke in a cold tone. "What are you trying to say? Do you look down on our Zhu Family?"
"This..." Luo Qiwei was at a loss for words. Any person of some accomplishment valued their dignity immensely, let alone a prominent family like the Zhus. Scolding Zhu Xiaowen’s ’cousin’ in front of her was the same as slapping the Zhu Family in the face. If they couldn’t recover from this insult, the Zhu Family would become a laughingstock among the other major families. Luo Qiwei understood this perfectly.
He quickly tried to smooth things over with a laugh. "Xiaowen, you’ve misunderstood. I didn’t know he was your cousin. Please, forgive me just this once, and let’s not make a big deal out of it." He had returned to the country to fight for the family inheritance. The entire point of hosting this party right after his return and inviting so many young masters and daughters from prominent families was to build up his leverage. If he offended Zhu Xiaowen, he would lose the Zhu Family as a powerful bargaining chip.
"Apologize to my cousin," Zhu Xiaowen demanded forcefully.
"This..." Luo Qiwei’s expression faltered. As the eldest young master of the Luo Family, he had his own dignity to uphold. Being forced to apologize to a ’cousin’ was going too far.
In the end, however, he still said to Ye Xiu apologetically, "I’m sorry, I had no idea you were Xiaowen’s cousin. I apologize and hope you won’t take it to heart. Xiaowen and I are friends, so from now on, we are friends too." It was a remarkable apology. Not only did he express his remorse, but he also tried to win Ye Xiu over.
"Here, go buy yourself a carrot." Ye Xiu took out the cash Luo Qiwei had given him and stuffed it into Luo Qiwei’s hand. "Eating carrots supplements your Vitamin A. It’s good for the liver and eyes."
Luo Qiwei was furious. Ye Xiu is calling me blind! Yet, he managed to suppress his anger and forced an awkward laugh. "Alright, I’ll definitely buy one. You guys go on in. I’ll wait here for some other friends."
Ye Xiu nodded, flashed a grin at Qin Qing, and then led Yun Lan and Zhu Xiaowen into the Ming Feng Tower. The two security guards at the entrance didn’t even try to stop them. This left Qin Qing, Luo Qiwei, Yun Lan, and Zhu Xiaowen utterly perplexed. The Ming Feng Tower’s rules were strict; even the most familiar guests had to be rigorously checked by security. Yet when Ye Xiu and his party walked in, the guards acted as if they hadn’t seen a thing.
What is going on? Could the Ming Feng Tower have changed its rules?
"I’d already prepared a whole story to fool the guards, and they didn’t even ask," Zhu Xiaowen said, frustrated. She felt as if she’d done all her homework for nothing.
"Maybe the Ming Feng Tower changed its rules," Yun Lan said.
Ye Xiu smiled without saying a word.
Meanwhile, at the entrance of the Ming Feng Tower, Luo Qiwei began to boast, "Qin Qing, you might not know this, but the owner of the Ming Feng Tower, Gong Jin, is a good friend of mine. That’s why my guests don’t need to go through security checks."
"So impressive, so impressive," Qin Qing said, expressionless.
Luo Qiwei: "..."
Just then, a young man approached with a beautiful woman on his arm. Luo Qiwei’s eyes lit up, and he hurried forward to greet him. "Young Master Zhu, it’s been two years! You’re as dapper as ever. Your presence truly honors my party."
This person was none other than Zhu Xiaowen’s brother, Zhu Guozhang, the eldest young master of the Zhu Family.
"With an invitation from Young Master Luo, how could I dare not come?" Zhu Guozhang replied with a smile.
Luo Qiwei was quite flattered by the remark. He smiled and said, "I still have other friends to greet, so you two please go ahead. Xiaowen and her cousin are already inside."
"Cousin?" Zhu Guozhang paused. "What cousin?"
"Oh, it seems you weren’t aware. Xiaowen brought her cousin along," Luo Qiwei explained.
Zhu Guozhang was even more confused. "Since when does Xiaowen have a cousin?"
Now it was Luo Qiwei’s turn to be baffled. "She doesn’t?"
"No," Zhu Guozhang said, shaking his head with a smile. "She probably just wanted to bring a friend in to have some fun and was afraid she wouldn’t be allowed, so she invented a cousin." With that, he led his companion into the Ming Feng Tower.
Luo Qiwei was left standing there, completely dumbfounded, his mind buzzing. I actually apologized to some gigolo that Zhu Xiaowen is keeping? And I even let that pretty boy ridicule me for being blind?
"That damn dog!" Luo Qiwei seethed.
"Young Master Luo, you aren’t planning to get revenge on him, are you?" Qin Qing asked.
"He’s just a dog on Zhu Xiaowen’s leash, and he dared to humiliate me. Don’t you think I deserve to get my dignity back?" Luo Qiwei said hatefully.
Qin Qing sighed inwardly. On the surface, Luo Qiwei appeared faultless, giving off the impression of a modest and tolerant nobleman. But his excellent facade couldn’t conceal his narrow-minded and petty nature.
"Young Master Luo, if you still consider me a friend, please listen to my advice. Do not provoke him," Qin Qing urged with the utmost sincerity. She knew Ye Xiu better than anyone. If a person of Luo Qiwei’s caliber were to anger Ye Xiu, Ye Xiu would beat the crap he didn’t wipe clean as a child right out of him. She was warning him out of goodwill because she considered him a friend.
"Are you afraid I’ll offend Zhu Xiaowen?" Luo Qiwei completely misunderstood her. "Don’t worry. Dealing with a mere gigolo isn’t worth me getting my own hands dirty."
As he spoke, he walked to the entrance of the Ming Feng Tower and addressed a security guard. "The man who went in with Zhu Xiaowen isn’t her cousin. He’s a gigolo she’s keeping, and he has no right to be in the Ming Feng Tower." His intention was to use the guards to throw Ye Xiu out in front of everyone at the party.
"Young Master Luo—" Seeing that Luo Qiwei intended to have the guards do his dirty work, Qin Qing immediately tried to stop him, but he spoke too quickly, giving her no chance to cut in.
This is going to be trouble! Qin Qing furrowed her brow. She wasn’t worried about Ye Xiu being thrown out by the guards; she was worried that the guards attempting to expel him would provoke Ye Xiu. The Ming Feng Tower was one of the most mysterious organizations in the world, capable of gathering countless secrets unknown to the public. One could only imagine how powerful they were. She was afraid that Ye Xiu, in a fit of rage, would fight the guards and end up offending the Ming Feng Tower.
"I’m talking to you! Didn’t you hear me?" When Luo Qiwei finished speaking, the guard remained motionless, as if he hadn’t heard a word. Irritated, he raised his voice.
Qin Qing was also puzzled. According to the Ming Feng Tower’s usual rules, anyone who snuck in would be beaten and thrown out. Why aren’t the guards doing anything, even after learning Ye Xiu isn’t Zhu Xiaowen’s cousin?
