Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 208: Careless!
Chapter 208: Careless!
Taking a plane to Vazer’s district took about an hour, and before Cain got to their arranged meeting point, the sun had already gone down, and the sky had darkened to a deep, dark grey.
Cain hadn’t taken any bodyguards with him and had simply gone along with the men Vazer provided, who were all Reds. He chose to ignore the fact that the person they were picking up was a Werewolf lord.
The car had just parked and come to a stop, with Cain getting out when he instantly spotted Vazer, who had already set up a small table and two chairs in front of the abandoned building where they were meeting.
It was a big project, considering the size of what appeared to be the beginning construction of an estate. Cain didn’t hesitate to move closer to the seat, even as Vazer signaled for all the bodyguards to distance themselves and put adequate space between them.
"Lord Javi couldn’t have killed all your bodyguards!" Vazer said with a blank expression on his face as he went ahead to pour tea into the cups he had prepared for Cain and himself.
"They might be useless, but there are benefits to keeping them around!" Vazer continued, staring intensely at Cain, almost as if he were trying to tell him that this was something he should know and asking why he was being so careless.
"You might be strong, but there’s a reason why there’s more power in numbers!"
"You have enough guards for both of us!" Cain responded, which elicited a chuckle from Vazer, who instantly shook his head.
"I didn’t know you had that much trust in me! If I had known, I would have prepared twice as many bodyguards!" he said with a subtly threatening tone in his voice as he continued to speak.
"You contacted me quickly. I’m guessing the attack pissed you off enough for you to want to bring our plans forward! If you want us to attack Javi, then you should have brought more men!" Vazer told him, sure that his conjecture was true, even if he was a little off.
"I’m enough!" Cain responded with such confidence that Vazer couldn’t help the curious expression that sprang up on his face. He was about to speak when Cain continued, his voice deep and low.
"...We’re not attacking Javi. We’re attacking whichever Lord is closest to him!"
"Lord Masdaw?" fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"Whichever!" Cain responded with a tightness in his gaze that showed just how serious he was. "Now!"
Vazer nodded in understanding, but he still couldn’t help but double-check to make sure Cain understood that, to ensure suspicion did not fall on him, Cain would be the one doing the heavy lifting.
"Lord Masdaw’s mansion in his district is just as heavily guarded as all others! His men are also just as powerful, and more importantly, I have no idea what his bloodline power is!" Vazer stated, laying things out plainly. If not for the difficulty of obtaining the information, he and Cain would not have waited so long to take down the Vampire Lord’s district in a way that would ensure Vazer could add it to his own.
As long as the innocent people in the district were not affected, the council would simply take it as another werewolf attack that they had to pay attention to. By then, Vazer’s power and influence would have grown enough for him to help Cain do the same with his uncle.
No Lord got to where they were without a little blood...what was a little more.
"It’s fine! With both of us, we should be able to take him down!" Cain responded, and Vazer could barely find the words to say, especially when Cain acted unlike himself. Vazer suspected that if he refused to go along with the plan or asked to delay, Cain might simply decide to go by himself.
"Okay!" Vazer responded, agreeing as he picked up the cup in front of him to take a sip. He was a Red, and apart from blood, he couldn’t taste a thing, but he still pretended to be displeased by the fact that the tea had turned cold. He watched as Cain impatiently got to his feet, spurring Vazer to do the same as he gathered his coat and moved toward the car they would be taking.
"It’ll take us about an hour by jet! We’ll plan on the way there!" Vazer said, even as Cain nodded and got into the car. Both of them remained silent as Vazer easily got a guard to bring him all the information he had been gathering on Lord Masdaw, one of the seven Vampire Lords.
The information was all they looked through until the jet they took touched down in Masdaw’s district, with only two hours left until midnight.
Vazer still felt they were being a bit careless, but regardless, he believed that with him and Cain working together and with the plan they had forged, there was little that could go wrong.
They worked quickly. Vazer got his men and even hired more that same night to keep tabs on Masdaw, ensuring that he was in the mansion before they acted. Both he and Cain staked out the mansion from inside a restaurant opposite where the mansion was located.
"My bloodline power is to change my body and stature! I’ll go in and confirm that he’s actually inside. I’ll come back out and give you the whole situation before you head in and attack!" Vazer said, worried when all he got in response from Cain was a nod. He’s being too reckless, Vazer thought.
"You can’t attack recklessly! The men I hired will also aid you!" Vazer added, which only got a deep sigh from Cain, who gestured for him to leave. "I understand! Stop nagging!" Cain snapped with a deep frown, even as he raised his gaze fully for Vazer to see the color of his eyes. Vazer was taken aback when he noticed that one of them was already completely red.
"Cain! Your eye is red!" Vazer pointed out with a wary expression on his face, to which Cain simply shrugged in response. "I’m mentally preparing for a fight, of course it’ll be red!" he said raising his right hand to massage his forehead with a hint of pain in his gaze while stating something they both knew to be a complete lie, especially since it only got like that when he was barely keeping a leash on his beast.
Again, Vazer felt an inkling to cancel the entire mission. It was too fast...they hadn’t staked out enough, and they were being careless. But again, the look Cain sent him meant one thing and one thing only.
If you back out...then I’m going without you!
