Mated To My Stepbrother-Chapter 75
Aria pov
As we walked into the apartment, Jaxon turned on the light. I couldn’t help but recall my father’s face telling me he would find me, and I could not escape him.
It sent shivers down my spine as Mary stared at me with concern. She had been asking me right from the car.
What was wrong? I did not have the right words to express what had just happened. She escorted me to a seat as I sat down, taking off my coat, which revealed all the scars that were still healing. Jaxon rushed to turn off the AC and turn on the heater instead, but I was not concentrating on anything.
The only thing on my mind was the image from a few minutes ago.
Mary still wasn’t ready to give up on me yet, and quickly sat beside me as she tapped my shoulder gently. "You still haven’t told me what happened to you. You have been in a state of shock for some minutes now," she asked.
I decided to stop acting so strange so they would not continue asking the same question, so I smiled awkwardly at Mary before turning my attention to her.
"Nothing is wrong with me; I am just happy to be back home, and I guess nothing more". I lied to her while trying to sound convincing, She did not believe me but decided to end the matter that way.
"It is fine if you do not want to tell me, but just know I am your only best friend, and you can always confide in me," she assured me.
I nodded, with my smile being even wider.
"I have no one else, after all," I assured her as she hugged me tightly, and Jaxon joined us on the sofa.
"So, what do you want to have for dinner? After all? You are back home, so no side dishes like before," Jaxon said. Just as I was about to reply to him positively, the bell rang loudly and suddenly, making my heart beat so loudly. I feared it was my father who had found our location.
Jaxon noticed the shock on my face and wanted to question me but ran off to answer the door.
Even Mary noticed but kept silent as I stood up and watched the doorway, waiting for the person to enter. But as the person entered, I saw it was a plumber, and I felt so relieved. It was not my father, after all; it was a plumber; how relieved I felt.
The man stared at me awkwardly as he greeted all of us. I didn’t even have the strength to answer him and just nodded.
Jaxon rushed towards me and sat beside me.
"What is wrong? Aria, you are not telling me everything yet. I need to know everything" Jaxon said to me. I was scared of telling him, but then I recalled if I had told him about the other incident earlier, there would not have been the little clashes we had. Then, I finally mustered up the courage.
"When We were coming back from the hospital at the mall, not too far from here. I saw a figure." I began, and that shook Mary, and she seemed a bit scared.
"What do you mean? Please explain to us very well." Mary said to me, as I noted, that is what I am trying to do.
"I’m trying to explain to you fully that I saw someone I was not meant to encounter," I said to Jaxon who understood what I meant.
Jaxon turned his attention to Mary as he dragged her to a corner. After whispering somewhat to her, he came back to sit beside me alone.
As Mary stood at the corner and pretended to be going through something on her phone, I could tell he had already axed her for privacy. He sat beside me with his full attention, only me.
"
You can start telling me everything now. I told you we’re in this together until Mom and Dad return. We only have each other’s back, so explain what you saw in front of the mall."Jaxon told me, and then I summoned the courage and spoke up.
"I think I saw him in front of the mall," I said with hesitation.
Jaxon stared at me in frustration. "You know I do not understand what you mean by seeing him in front of the mall. Explain who this person is, why he’s in front of a mall, and why you are so scared that even a doorbell sends shivers down your spine." Jaxon said to me. I gulped in the saliva I had piled up in my mouth before speaking up, but this time around, I made it be in a tone, more like a whisper.
"What I mean is I saw my father in front of the mall. I could swear he was the one, and not that alone scared me. But the fact that he mouthed to me that he would find me, and I don’t have anywhere to run to. Can you even imagine he said that to me?" I said to Jaxon. Even though Jaxon was trying to act bravely, I could tell he was shaken hearing those words. He also understood what I had said earlier.
"Does that mean that he was the one who came into the hospital room?" Jaxon muttered but more to himself than to me.
"That is not just the main issue; that is not the only thing that scares me, but the main issue is, why would he want to harm me? The last time he had talked to me on the phone, he acted like he needed me so badly, so why would he want to harm me if I was of great use to him?" I said to Jaxon, who stared at me, realization, also clearly thinking the same thing I had just said. I’m just so confused; I cannot even point out what he wants.
