Mated To My Stepbrother-Chapter 31
The silence that followed after Rebecca made that statement was so loud that I began to hear Aria’s cries of disappointment and the ripping sounds of my breaking heart.
"Did you hear me Jaxon?" She asked impatiently and impassively, "Are you agreeing or not?"
"But... You know I can’t"
"Your ten minutes are over Jaxon, goodbye"
"Wait!", I didn’t realize how loud I sounded until one of the policemen threw a threatening glance my way "You can’t just leave me, Rebecca"
"Why can’t I just leave you Jaxon Cross" She asked angrily, "answer me! You left me when I needed you the most didn’t you? You left me in the dark, unexpected and uninformed. Did you know what that did to me, did you know how I managed to survive the maddening ordeal? Did you know how badly the heartbreak affected me? You left me to fight my battles alone, why shouldn’t I do the same to you?"
The memories of the relationship between Rebecca and me began to play in my head and as guilt stung my heart, I couldn’t help but feel more miserable. I truly don’t deserve her assistance.
"Please Becky, just help me"
"I don’t care about you anymore Jaxon, my love for you died years ago and so did all feelings of compassion I’ve ever had for you"
"You can’t let me go to jail will you"
"If you could leave me to die when I was having a seizure why can’t I leave you to spend the rest of your youthful years in confinement"
"I can’t go to jail Becky, please. You’re the only person I can turn to now, I don’t have anyone else"
"We either get back together or you spend the rest of your life in jail. Your love left permanent marks on me Jaxon. I haven’t been able to move on ever since, I remember you every day but you on the other hand have forgotten my existence up till now"
Just as I was preparing the next response to give to the irate Rebecca, the door of the reception creaked open and Mr Crockett sauntered in, Stevie walking behind him with a smug expression on her face. Disgusting bitch!
"Hello Mr Crockett"
The juvenile policeman greeted him as he gestured for him and his daughter to take a seat on the pew of long seats in the reception. The duo settled on the seat with the gait of someone who had just conquered an army of enemies, they had come to determine the fate of a criminal.
"It’s alright Rebecca", I pronounced with resignation, struggling to contain the fear and anger that had engulfed my soul. Stevie’s face irritated me and the prospect of my going to jail had become too undeniable. "Transfer back to Emerson High and we’ll get back together"
"Really" " surprise was evident in her voice
"Yes Rebecca," I said slowly, "I’m not kidding"
"You still love me then, Jaxon"
Those words carried so much innocence and affection that a part of me found it too hard to refute, "You do miss me sometimes Jaxon" she asked again, "I’ve missed you so much Jaxon"
"Yes Rebecca, I still love you and I miss you sometimes", I swallowed hard again, "I’ll text you the address of the police station now, we’ll talk better when you arrive"
"Okay Jaxon"
And then I ended the call, turning to face the policeman, "she’ll be here in the next two hours"
"Who’s he referring to", Mr Crockett asked
"My witness" I answered as rudely as I could, "my witness will be here in two hours"
"Was your witness at the accident scene?"
"It doesn’t actually matter if she wasn’t present Mr Crockett", the policeman intervened, gesturing for me to return my phone to the sergeant and to sit on a nearby chair, "all we need is proof that Mr Jaxon didn’t attempt to assault Miss Crockett"
"Wouldn’t this be preposterous?"
"It wouldn’t have been if you hadn’t foolishly believed your lying daughter and decided to press charges against an innocent young man"
"That was rude Mr Cross"
The policeman said but I didn’t look in his direction, my mind was consumed with thoughts of what my exoneration would look like and how Stevie would react to it.
"My daughter isn’t lying for your information"
"And my witness will force the bitter pill of throat down your throat"
"Keep your voice down Mr Cross and let’s wait for your witness" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
I decided to take a look at Stevie at that time and I saw a look of fear and uncertainty on her face. You haven’t seen anything bitch, your father will curse the day he gave birth to you today.
We began our wait afterwards, each passing minute bringing us closer to the hour of disclosure, thickening the tension in the air. The juvenile policeman busied himself by attending to other people while I simply kept my eyes on the clock. Until the door flung open, bringing Rebecca into view, all sweating and panting.
"I came here as fast as I could", she said to me
"Is she your witness?"
"Yes officer", I replied and gestured to Stevie Crockett and her father, "there they are Rebecca"
"Of course I know them", she responded as she padded over to the other side of the room with her long legs," Hello Stevie, it’s good to see you again. I didn’t know you knew Jaxon"
Rebecca kept her hand stretched towards Stevie but she didn’t receive the handshake. Rather, she tried making subtle attempts to mask the look of shock and disbelief on her face.
"I didn’t know you knew Rebecca, Stevie", I said sarcastically throwing disdainful glances at her father
"And Stevie I share the same homeroom actually"
Rebecca answered as she bent over to fill out the defence witness form that the officer presented to her.
"Well that doesn’t substantiate the fact that he attempted to rape my daughter"
"We’ll see about that Mr Crockett", I answered slowly, "let the interrogation begin"
"Very well then", the juvenile policeman pronounced after he’d finished collecting Rebecca’s information, "let’s begin the interrogation, Miss Lansdowne"
He gestured for Rebecca to take the seat beside me and she did so, folding her arms beneath her breasts, "You said you weren’t there when the attack happened, or were you?"
"No I wasn’t", she answered confidently, "but I know enough about Stevie Crockett to prove her dishonesty"
"What do you know", Mr Crockett asked angrily, "You’re not going to claim my daughter can speak or are you?"
"No Sir", she answered politely, "Stevie cannot speak, I’ve known her for a while now but she is the one who instigated the attack"
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"The dagger Jaxon claimed he attacked her with"
"Which does not exist.."
"Actually exists Mr Crockett," she said in response to his interruption
"Your daughter, Stevie, has a dagger with her now as we speak, hidden somewhere inside her dress. The same dagger she used to attack and injure Jaxon. She goes everywhere with that dagger, mostly using it for self-defense but she attacked Jaxon with it that very day and hid it in her dress, after telling horrible lies against him. I also have proof that she was once one of Jaxon’s Instagram followers, and I also have proof of the money she sent to him!"
