Mated To My Best Friend's Lycan Alpha Brothers-Chapter 439: She Cannot Stay
(Author’s POV)
"Prin~ .... Ms. Everests, didn’t Prof. Stephens leave with you? When is he coming back?" Iris questioned. The Yates, after inquiring about Jacob’s health from Iris, they have been waiting for about an hour for Fabian to return.
Nora pursed her lips and spoke, "Umm~ Ms. Hector .... it might be difficult for him to come back tonight. He is still at the hospital."
"Hospital?" Both Yelena and Garry spoke simultaneously. Then, Yelena added, "What is Fabian doing at the hospital? Is he~ ... is he alright? Did he run a fever again? Is he okay? ...." She immediately became tense.
"How can you not know?" Dion queried, his eyes squinting.
"Don’t know what, Mr. Everests? What happened to him?" Yelena asked, an uncomfortable feeling crept inside her. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"Your friend~ .... Myra Miracle, she was in an accident last night and is now admitted to the hospital," Dion told her.
"WHAT? Myra was?" once again, Garry and Yelena yelled together. They were in disbelief. Diana, she remained aloof. She didn’t like Myra at all and considered her and her family a freaking charity case. So, she didn’t give a damn whether she lived or died. She wasn’t even surprised to see her husband behave like that. He was always ready to help the needy, the orphan kind. It was his thing.
Yelena’s shock was justifiable, as Myra and she were very close friends, and the former even lived in Myra’s house. But Garry Yates~ .... his behaviour and actions seemed a little odd to Alaric, Dion, as well as Nora. Garry was clearly bothered and startled by the news of Myra’s accident. But why would he react this way?
Garry didn’t waste anytime and said his voice back to normal as he straightened his back, "If Prof. Stephens and Ms. Miracle are at the hospital, we will meet them there. Then, Mr. Everests, we will be taking our leave." He didn’t wait for anyone’s reply gestured Diana to walk out.
The couple stepped out of the mansion alongside Yelena.
Alaric’s gaze remained fixated on Garry until he got out of his sight. There was something odd about his actions, something really suspicious. ’This Garry Yates~ .... after Myra was mentioned, he behaved like an oddball,’ Alex remarked. He was full of doubts. ’We need to look into his relationship with our mate. That old man gives me weird vibes.’
Alaric kept silent, though he had already resolved to investigate Garry Yates.
"Healer Hector, how is Chairman Larson doing? Any improvement? No problem occurred in our absence, right?" Brave asked Iris in an attempt to cut off the silent atmosphere.
In a curt and professional tone, Iris told them, "Young Lycan Alpha, thanks to your help, his majesty is doing a lot better. The healing ritual is working fine." She claimed. She was respectful towards the Everests as they dragged her king’s life back from the jaws of death. She felt indebted to them.
’Now, only if Chris Shadow does his job and brings the person with the gold blood. His majesty, the vampire king, will not only regain his health in no time, but he will be thrice as powerful as he was before," Iris thought, eagerly waiting for Chris to come back with the said item.
Brave nodded in understanding. He then remembered something and added, "Ms. Hector, can you ask the staff to prepare one more guest room?"
Dion asked, with confusion, "For whom?"
"For Secretary Queens?" Brave reply was casual.
All his siblings were puzzled and shocked to hear his words. On the other hand, a sublime, victorious smile flashed across Elisa’s face, but she quickly concealed it. The pity party act is working wonders. She didn’t have to open her mouth this time. Brave, on his own, did what she intended to.
Iris hesitated; it wasn’t her place to make that decision. Eventually, it was either Chris or Fabian who could do that. In a respectful tone, she informed, "Mr. Everests, with due respect, this is a call I cannot make. Only Mr. Stephens can do that in Secretary Shadow’s absence."
"But~ ..." Brave was about to say something, just then a voice, as cold as ice, echoed in the living room, "NO~ ... Secretary Queens, cannot stay here."
Everyone looked at the entrance way as Fabian walked inside, his steps imposing.
Brave questioned him straightaway, "Prof. Stephens, why can’t Secretary Queens stay here? Can you tell me the reason?"
Fabian zeroed his eyes on Elisa, then on Brave as he said, "Because it’s about Chairman Larson’s safety. Only authorized personnel can stay in the mansion."
"But isn’t Ms. Queens~ .... one of Chairman Larson’s secretaries? Then why can’t she be considered an authorized person?" Brave was confused. He glanced at Elisa. Her shoulders were slumped, she clearly looked miserable.
"You tell me, why are you so adamant about her stay, Mr. Brave Everests? It’s not like she doesn’t have a place of her own, so why?" Fabian countered the question with his own. He was trying to gauge out Brave’s intention.
Brave walked a few steps in Elisa’s direction. He carefully took off her gloves, and a collective gasp escaped everyone’s mouth, "As I told you at the hospital. Secretary Queens had injured her hands while saving Myra from those predatory beings. She didn’t even think twice before helping her. And apparently, she was working to catch any suspect related to Mr. Larson’s crash incident. So, this is considered a work injury, right?"
His words left everyone else speechless. He said it so articulately that even Fabian couldn’t respond for a moment. He looked at Elisa for quite a while. And after thinking hard and long, he uttered, "Okay, she can stay. But only until her hands recover."
After saying his piece, Fabian, without a word, went to his room. His mood was clearly off.
Elisa looked straight in Brave’s eyes, her gaze revealing her gratitude as she muttered, "Mr. Everests~ ... you, you didn’t have to do this for me. I could have~ ... managed on my own." Her voice was low and humble. She sounded so weak and helpless that no one could tell whether she was acting or genuine.
