Mated To My Best Friend's Lycan Alpha Brothers-Chapter 429: Let’s Call It Even
(Author’s POV)
"It’s been a while," Nora spoke, her eyes boring into Myra, piercing her very being like a dagger. She occupied the seat in front of her.
Everyone was waiting for Myra to respond, but she remained mum. Fabian, who was the closest to her, patted and caressed the back of her hand. That action of his dragged her back from the depths of her topsy turvy thoughts and to the real life challenging situation. She let go of a breath, she didn’t know she was holding all this time.
Her eyes flickered as she finally responded, "Yeah~ ... it has been."
Looking at her heavily patched up head, bandaged cheek, and dressed up wrists, Nora’s heart wrenched. She inquired, "How~ ... did this happen? How did you end up like this?" Though she wasn’t over the feeling of betrayal yet. The frustration was bubbling inside her. Even Aura, her wolf, was petrified to see Myra in that condition.
Myra was hesitating to answer that, "This~ .... uhhh~ ...." What would she even say to her? She didn’t want to show her pathetic side to anybody, especially to Nora.
Sandra felt a weird tension between the two and said, "We all will be outside. You two should have a good talk." Everyone understood her signal, and one by one, they walked out. Fabian patted her head in a soft caress and assured her with a slow blink, "Everything will go well."
Brave looked at Fabian’s hand placement, and then his eyes darted between Myra and him. There was something really odd about the way they were conversing. It made him feel strangely uncomfortable. With his narrowed eyes, he followed Fabian’s movements. Once Brave had made sure he was out of the room, he walked towards the table, settled the fruit basket in his hand, glanced at Myra and spoke, "Talk it out. All of it, calmly, hmmm."
Nora nodded as they saw him walk out. He was the last one to do so.
After everyone left, the profound silence was back, making the atmosphere utterly suffocating. Myra’s eyes lowered instinctively, her pale hands clenched together.
After a long, hard moment of stifling hush, Nora decided to break the ice as she uttered, "Are you not going to answer my previous question?"
"Huhhh?" Myra raised her head to look at her. With fluttering eyes, she answered, "This~ .... I wasn’t being careful and fell from the stairs."
"Hahhh~ ...." Nora chuckled mirthlessly. "You know you can’t lie in front of me. Every time you try that, you chew your lower lip and your eyelashes flutter as well. Is it so hard to answer a simple question? Do you hate me so much?"
"NO~ .... don’t say that," Myra blurted out. "I don’t~ .... I just~ ...." she fumbled.
"Then tell me, who did this to you?" Nora pressed on. By a mere glance, anyone could tell those injuries were intentionally inflicted by someone. Nora could see that as well.
Myra pressed her lips together, then let out a heavy sigh, "On my way home, I was kidnapped."
"WHAT? Who had the fucking gall to hurt you?" Nora questioned, fury brimming inside her. "WHO DID THIS? Name them." Her and her wolf’s protective instinct kicked in as her voice changed into a more gravelly and imposing tone.
Myra saw her eyes shifting from purple and gold to a more fierce, shiny gold. It made her flinch unconsciously. Nora saw fright in her eyes and froze. She had let her emotions sway there. She shook her head quickly, her eyes back to their normal shade.
Swallowing, she pursed her lips and asked, now in a more calming tone, "Who did this to you? My brothers and I will find them and~ ..." she couldn’t even complete her words before Myra interrupted, "There is no need for that. I will~ .... manage."
Myra’s attempt to push her away broke something inside Nora. Her already red, veiny eyes quivered, "And you say~ ... you don’t hate me. Yaa, sure."
"Nora, I~ ...." Myra’s conscience was stricken. "It’s not like that."
"If it’s not like that, then tell me why you do that? Why did you run away? Why did you cut off all contact? Why did you not tell me anything? Why~ .... huhh~ .... Why~ ....? Answer me, Myra. Answer me," Nora couldn’t hold herself any longer, her emotions spilling like a glass overflowing with water.
Myra’s nose tinged as she tried to suppress the discomfort building inside. She didn’t know how to answer a single question. She was too ashamed, too distraught to tell her the reason. After a while, she mustered up her courage and spoke, "It just happened~ .... somehow. I got an opportunity~ .... so~ ... it just~ ..."
"Can you stop lying? If you dare to pull a stunt of disappearing overnight, then at least own upto it," Nora cut her off. "I didn’t know you were capable of being such a coward, Myra. Tskkk~ .... So disappointing."
"Nora, you shouldn’t throw words without knowing anything," Myra spat back. "You don’t know a single thing I have gone through." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"Then tell me, uhh? Why don’t you tell me the reason, so that I can understand?" Nora pressed on. The tears she had been holding so badly wetting her cheeks now.
Myra held her tongue. She had said too much. After closing her eyes, she took a deep breath and uttered, "I don’t want to talk about past affairs. Please~ ... don’t force me."
"Are you guilt ridden now?" Nora said. "I know I did you wrong. I know I shouldn’t have hidden it from you. The first time I got to know about my wolf, I should have told you. I have always regretted my decision, Ra-ra. I really have. But~ ... but, how can you~ .... how can you even think of vanishing like that? How can you be so cruel, Ra-ra? Did you not think of me once?"
Seeing Nora bellowing, Myra reached out for her hand. Though weakly, she patted it in a gesture to console Nora and said, "Nor~ .... Let’s call it even."
