Chapter 384: Save My Number

(Author’s POV)

When she switched her phone back on, Myra found that there were a couple of missed calls from Fabian, followed by a few text messages from him, as well as from an unknown number. The same one from which she received a call from earlier. She frowned, ’Who could it be?’

But when she tapped on those texts, she could instantly tell who it was from. It read, "The bandage, do apply it to your cut. Don’t let the injury get wet, or it will fester, okay. And this is my number. Save it."

She exhaled a fatigued sigh, her fingers were holding the bandage carefully as she got lost in her thoughts, ’Is it really impossible to cut things off for good? I don’t want to get tangled up with any of them and just live my life quietly. Now he has my number too. What do I do?’

When Myra was deep in her inner monologue, out of the blue, the door burst open.

She was startled for a second, but she saw it was Wendy. She quickly wiped away the tears settled on the corners of her eyes and asked while clearing her throat, "Wends, what happened? Trouble getting asleep?"

Wendy switched on the dim lights and made her way towards Myra, her face etched with visible worry, "I just received a call from Prof. Stephens. He sounded quite frantic, asking me where you were. He then told me that he called you and heard you screaming, and then your phone was disconnected. What’s going on, sis? What happened?"

Attaining a collected demeanour, Myra spoke, "Ohhh~ .... nothing happened. I was trying to close the jammed window when my finger was nicked a bit." She showed the faint cut to her sister. "He must have heard that."

"Ahhh~ .... That’s what happened. You know~ .... how scared I was when I heard his rough and desperate voice," Wendy stated while settling in front of Myra. She then saw the bandage, retrieved it from her hand, and carefully taped it on Myra’s finger. While chuckling, she commented, "Where did you get this from, sis? The baby wolf on it is so cute." She tried to lighten the mood.

Myra noticed that Wendy wasn’t wearing any slippers. She must have really thought something had happened to her and felt guilty, "I bought it from a pharmacy. Wends~ ... it’s already very late. You should return back to your room."

"What about Prof. Stephens?" Wendy inquired.

Myra answered, "I will give him a call. And you~ .... it’s cold at nighttime. Wear my slippers and go back to your room."

Wendy nodded and walked towards the door, but before departing, she pivoted and called her, "Sis~ ...."

"Hmmm?" Myra hummed.

"Uhhh~ .... nothing. Good night, sweet dreams, muahhhh," Wendy gave her a flying kiss and left her room. After getting out, she glanced back at the door. She had noticed Myra’s slightly red eyes. Releasing a heavy sigh, she walked back to her room, mumbling, "She takes care of everyone else~ .... but forgets to take care of her own. I don’t know what I will do with her."

Meanwhile, Myra dialled Fabian’s number. On the first ring, the call connected, as if the other person was waiting for her call. "Hello~ .... Myra~ .... what~ what happened to you? Are you okay? Are you in danger? I heard you screaming. Are you hurt?" He unleashed a flurry of questions.

"I am alright, Fabian," Myra said with ease.

"No, but~ .... I heard you yelping, then the call ended, and your phone was switched off after that. Myra~ .... don’t hide it from me. Tell me, did something happen?" Fabian questioned. Though his tone was worrisome, there was a hint of weariness in it as well.

"Fabian~ ... Fabian~ ... relax. I am really fine. Really. When I picked up your call, I was~ ...." Myra narrated to him the very version she had told Wendy.

A relieved breath came from the other side. He continued, "I thought~ .... you~ ... something happened~ .... to you. Did you dress the wound?"

"I did. Fabian~ .... You tell me. How are you doing now?" It was her turn to question.

Fabian’s eyes darted towards the dorsal side of his other hand, a dripping needle connected to his veins, "I am doing fine as well. Better than before."

Myra was glad to hear it. She then probed further, "Why didn’t you pick up any of my calls then? Why did you leave the hospital so abruptly? You know how worried Yelena and I had been when we saw you weren’t inside the room."

Fabian didn’t say anything for a few seconds. Only his marginally uneven breathing could be heard. Then he cleared his voice and said, "I was feeling a little stuffy there, and also, I received a call from Chairman Larson’s side, so I left in a bit of a hurry. Sorry about that." A faint blush crept up his already flushed cheeks. He was kind of giddy to know that Myra was concerned about him.

"You should have waited for us or at least told any of us," Myra reprimanded.

"I am sorry, Ra-ra. It won’t happen again," though he said that, he wasn’t regretful at all. A clear smile graced his chapped, pale lips. He felt like he had crossed a major barrier.

Myra has never talked to him in that way. This kind of tone was reserved only for the ones she truly held dear. Although they were friends, Fabian could tell that Myra kept a faint distance from him. He has always felt that there is an invisible wall she has built around herself.

He had finally managed to make a crack in it. Even thinking about this, he was satisfied. ’If I knew, getting drowned in the sea would soften her, I would do it a thousand times.’

"By the way~ .... Fabian~ .... how is he now?" Myra asked with hesitation.

"Huhh?" Fabian was lost in his thoughts.

"How is Mr. Larson’s health now?" Myra repeated.

"Grandf~ ...." he quickly held his tongue and continued, ".... Chairman Larson, he has woken up~ .... And is undergoing treatment," Fabian told her in a solemn voice.

"Good~ .... he is a good person. Nothing will happen to him," Myra said, more to herself than to him.
