Chapter 216: Of Sweet Endearing Nights

[RANIA]

Of the things that the misfits had expected, a nonchalant Kaia talking about the source of his brutality and the fact that he had two beasts that reigned in him, was definitely not what they had been expecting.

It was like a thrust into the impossible, an introduction to a world that could reign in different realms, and yet as they watched the man be so calm about everything and constantly stare at the door, they knew that there wasn’t a thing that Kaisei Chihiro wanted from them.

He had told them he would come clean about one thing and now he had, maybe that was also why he had gone back to reading the reports that Rania had pushed aside, instead of reacting to the misfits who had gone so silent you’d think someone had finally figured out the spell to shut them the fuck up.

"Haruhito Yanagida Seto," Oshita said after a long silence, like he was trying to imagine what the name sounded. Of course, he had remembered it over the past few minutes but now it sounded so different.

It felt like they were finally starting to know Kaia; though the man himself was a layer of things that they couldn’t even get to.

Kaia Seto was like a huge-ass onion. One layer would only reveal more layers and with thousands of years of memories and sins, there was no telling what was going to happen next. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"Where is your brother tg the moment?" Dalrae said as she looked at Kaia, but this time, Kaia didn’t respond. He had made it clear that he wasn’t going to have a bonding session with them and he wasn’t going to go back on that.

Kaia Seto never did attachments and maybe that was also why he was trying his best to pretend like he hadn’t opened up to the misfits who were still curious to know what the fuck had happened.

"Let’s not ask so many questions. He said he wouldn’t answer them anyway. I guess it’s just strange that we know that he has a brother. Also, don’t go snooping; if he wants to, he will tell us, but until then, we don’t go snooping about his family.

"Clearly, he wants his brother to live a normal life and we aren’t exactly a version of what normal would look like," Rania said, and her sister and friend nodded.

They knew that there had to be reasons for everything, but hearing the reason Seto had, made them wonder how many monsters the world had created. It wasn’t that hard to tell but goddamn, there were little too many instances for them right now.

Maybe when all of this was done and dusted, they would try to understand the dynamics of whatever the hell was going on out there right?

"Okay. We’ll get going. Don’t you both do anything that we wouldn’t," Paloma said and Kaia snickered.

What could they do that would ever challenge what the others would do anyway? They didn’t have that much in common save for the fact that they all didn’t have a problem killing their enemies.

It was a given, and if ever there came a time when choices would be a thing of the past, then today would be it.

"Actually, I’m coming with you guys. I need to check on the people again. We have stayed in here for the whole day and who knows what tomorrow hotels for all of us?" Rania said and they just nodded before Dalrae gave them a reminder that would determine what their tomorrow could really be like.

"We are to invade Calindra any day from tomorrow. Does any of you have any objections?" Dalrae asked, even though it was more of a statement than a question.

It was a reminder that this was happening and anyone who was uncomfortable with it, could pack up and go to bed.

This wasn’t something that she would force on them. Because, no matter what happened and no matter how shit played out, Dalrae was taking her army to Calindra.

She was going to lead them to battle and they could either join or stay behind. It was their choice at the end anyway.

"We’re all ready for whatever comes. Just let us know when the warriors are ready too, so that shouldn’t be an issue," Oshita confirmed and they all nodded in understanding.

They knew that this was long overdue, this wasn’t just a war for Rania.

This was a show of defiance to the king of Obren. This was the best form of fuck you to Seojon and a reminder that no matter what happened, Incayon would always rise.

The king had sent his assassins to murder one of their own, and this time, they weren’t going to be so forgiving with anyone. No one would ever hurt their own and live to tell the tale of how it ended.

"Great. In that case, you have a free night to do whatever you want, as long as it doesn’t make the warriors tired and weary by morning," Dalrae said while she was looking at Chang Wook and Han Seong accusingly.

"Hold on, why are we the only ones getting the death stare?" Han Seong who had come back a little too conveniently when Kaia had been done with his retelling of the ’Seto household tragedies; and Dalrae arched a brow at them.

Surely they didn’t think that she had forgotten what they did, no?

"I think we shouldn’t defend ourselves this time," Chang Wook whispered to han seong who still didn’t know what the fuck they had done and why they were being singled out.

Chang Wook even tried to step on his foot to silence the man, but Han didn’t get the signal. Instead, he looked at Dalrae hopefully, like he wanted to know what he had done that had gotten the Incayon beta that stern with the both of them.

"What did we do?" Han asked and this time, Rania facepalmed.

This was going to be a disaster once again and she knew that they would have to find a way to get out of this before Dalrae came up with absurd punishments for the two idiots.

"You may or may not have drunk the whole night with the warriors, Han. Some of them got into light brawls, but when they woke up, they were a mess.

"That’s why Rnai had to wake up before us all and try to fix the mess you guys made," Paloma said and Han Seong looked at Chang Wook as if he wanted to confirm it. But the man was bowing his head in shame like the worst had really happened to them.

"Now that we are all on the same page, if any of you go fuck up the warriors in drinking games and stupid ’truth and dare’ games again, you will be carrying all the baggage of the warriors as we head to set up camp near Calindra.

"Any questions?" Dalrae said and Han gulped as he took a step back, making sure to hold onto Chang Wook in case they needed to run to safety.

"We’ll be carrying food, right?" Oshita asked as everyone including Kaia groaned out in frustration.

Maybe someone had to teach Oshita to ask reasonable questions because in times like these, they really couldn’t count on him to save their asses anyway. But then again, in war, Oshita was a force to be reckoned with.

He was the ultimate war general and now that he was here with his queen, his team, and the warriors outside, they knew that it would all be okay.

"No, Oshita, we will be carving wood the whole time," Dalrae said, the sarcasm in her voice making them all burst out into laughter, while Oshita had a little pout on his face.

However as they laughed into the evening, they all knew that tomorrow wouldn’t be as easy as it seemed to be.

Tomorrow would determine a lot of things in their lives and if they weren’t careful enough, they would be hurting and losing. But that was also obvious in war. They just had to hope that it didn’t take too much from them.

"Let’s go have some fun one last time," Kaia suggested and the misfits cheered on, before they walked out of the alpha’s office and made their way into the pack that was bustling with life despite the fact that tomorrow itself was a disaster in waiting.
