Chapter 160: Chapter 160 - Confusion

The two headed back to where Seyen was. She had already left the area by then, of course, but it didn’t matter.

They just had to sit there for a while and she was sure to find out and show up soon.

In fact, perhaps they were already being watched. Whether they were or not didn’t matter, not for Lena at least. If she had to put on a performance, then one she would give.

She took a deep breath, then grinned wide. "I have a bomb!"

The words echoed through the clearing.

Lumi turned to look at her, confused. "What?"

"I have a bomb!" Lena repeated, louder this time. She threw her arms up dramatically. "I HAVE A BOMB!"

Lumi blinked. A pixie had said that earlier when they had been travelling. Why was she repeating it now?

He caught on quickly. She was putting on a show in case they were being watched.

Lena spun in place, her cloak swirling around her. "And then Kise went BOOM! It was just so cool! I loved it! And I’m ITCHING to do it again!"

She giggled, with an obvious grin on her face. "It was so so... beautiful! I wanna kill more... I WANNA KILL MORE!"

She twirled around once, and giggled. "Even if it kills me.... ehe~" She felt a rush go through her. She was trying to convey that she was a crazy bitch that might really do anything if provoked.

Which wasn’t even wrong.

Such a thought made her prideful.

Lumi watched her performance with his eye twitching. He could indeed understand the logic. It was in case they were being watched. If they weren’t being watched, they lost nothing. If they were, then they would have successfully put on a performance.

Though, there was one issue. If she wanted to put on such a performance... she could just do that once Seyen showed up.

Why now?

Lena didn’t care about ’could haves’ though. She lifted her cloak dramatically, revealing the inside lining.

Strapped to the inside were countless bombs. Small, compact, deadly. "I can totally go boom! Hey hey, what do ya think I can take out!?"

"..." Lumi stared at the scene.

Players had an inventory after all. There was no need to keep them like that. Which meant it was entirely for show. She had thought of it on the spot.

That is, when tasked to make someone wary, her first thought was to reveal her insanity. And then to take it to its limits. With the logic being, an insane person can do anything, so she was dangerous.

The logic worked to an extent, though it was unusual.

Lena noticed his stare and gave him a wide grin. "What? Too much?"

"You’re insane." Lumi muttered.

"Thank you!" Lena chirped. She let the clothes fall back into place, covering the bombs again. Then she sat down on a nearby branch, swinging her legs. "Now we wait~"

Lumi shook his head and leaned against a tree. He didn’t say anything more.

It didn’t take long.

Within minutes, a faint sound came into existance. A faint hum of wings approached, growing louder.

Seyen appeared first, teleporting into view a dozen feet away. Her two lieutenants followed immediately after, materializing on either side of her.

She looked at Lumi and Lena with sharp eyes, evaluating them.

Of course she showed up. After all, this was the spot to meet her once they completed the mission. She just hadn’t expected it to be so quick.

Her threat evaluation of Lumi went up immediately.

Killing Kise in under a day. That was fast. Faster than she’d anticipated. Either they were stronger than she thought, or they’d gotten extremely lucky. Though... she didn’t believe in luck.

If they had killed Kise already, and looked completely fine, then they were stronger than she thought.

Perhaps they could do damage to her.

Sure, Kise was weaker than her lieutenants, but not by much. Even if she only lost one as the humans desperately struggled, it wasn’t worth it. Losing a single one would be a big blow to her.

The other issue was that Lumi wanted pixies dead. This wasn’t a revelation, she already knew this. But the stronger Lumi turned out to be, the bigger the issue. This may not seem like an issue at first glance, given that pixies also hunted humans. But this was actually a really big issue.

After all, the number one weapon of pixies was empathy. They loved to deceive humans with false stories of being wrongfully prosecuted, of being just like them, just wanting a peaceful life... just to betray them on a whim and murder the human once their guard was down.

Seyen had thought this trick to a few dozen pixies herself. Because pixies could put on a smiling face and wave at humans instead of being instantly aggressive, many humans would be tricked into thinking it was just a few bad pixies that were the issue.

Regardless, the point was that Lumi’s hate of pixies meant they couldn’t use their usual methods on him. She saw no way of abusing empathy or emotional connections with him. At the same time, it meant he had a motive to kill them.

Her eyes flicked. Just how should she approach this...

She crossed her arms and lightly probed. "You’re back already."

Lumi nodded. "We finished the job."

"Show me." Seyen responded as her mind raced..

Lena giggled and reached into her inventory. She pulled out Kise’s severed head, holding it up by the hair. "Here~!"

Seyen’s eyes narrowed. She floated closer, inspecting the head carefully. It was unmistakably Kise.

More importantly, there was a black powdered film over her cheeks which made no sense. Was it explosion residue. The insane girl did say the used a bomb.

"Pass it." Seyen said.

Lena shrugged. The evidence was clear. She didn’t see the point in such a close inspection, but she threw it over. "Admiring the beauty?"

Seyen passed her fingers over the cheek, the residue sticking to her fingers. She lightly sniffed...

Seyen’s gaze flicked back to Lena. "You used a bomb."

Lena’s grin widened. "I blew her up!" She stared at the head, then licked her lips. "It was SO fun! She went BOOM and there was blood everywhere and she screamed and then she died!"

Seyen said nothing. She just stared at Lena, then she looked back at the head.

Bombs were strong, yes. But they were typically used as either overwhelming force or traps. You planted them somewhere and waited for the enemy to trigger them. Or you used massive quantities to level an area.

There was no way Lena had yields strong enough to use them as casual weaponry. The cost alone would be absurd. Yet a trap made no sense either. They had gone to Kise, not the other way around.

But bombs were objects too slow, too predictable, and surprisingly weak outside close range. You had to detonate them at the right moment, in the right place, or they were useless.

There was a reason they weren’t used in actual fights. Any competent enemy would easily get out of the effective range. So why did Kise get hit?

Kise was level 39. She was fast. She was smart. She knew how to fight.

That begged the question, how did a bomb land on her?

Seyen had no idea, and it caused her worry. She looked at Lena again, reassessing.

That female human was grinning like a lunatic, still holding Kise’s head. She felt extremely familiar... like a fellow Pixie. She reminded her of herself.

Seyen’s gaze shifted to Lumi. He was calm and composed. He hadn’t said a word since presenting the head. He was just watching.

Seyen made a decision. Regarding the betrayal issue, unless she had a great opportunity, she wouldn’t attack.

Not even with a good opportunity. Unless it was perfect, she’d leave them be. Not until she understood how they’d actually killed Kise.

At worst, she’d even flee the area and come back later. As long as the pixie queen died, then it didn’t matter if she was in charge. It would be easy enough for her to take control with such a vacancy and her existing power bloc.

Seyen spoke. "The job is complete. You’ve proven yourselves."

Lumi nodded. "Then we move to the next phase. It’s time for you to start fulfilling your end of the deal."

Seyen didn’t respond immediately. She was still calculating. "The prisoners? I barely have any. Though I’m sure we’ll end up taking tons during the fight."

Lumi didn’t budge, and pressed. "Just take me to what you have."

"Fine." Seyen couldn’t refuse him.

Seyen continued. "We’ll launch the raid soon. I’ll gather my forces. When I’m ready, we attack her immediately."

"How long?" Lumi asked.

"Just a few hours." Seyen replied.

Lumi’s eyes flickered. Gathering her forces was a lie. She was already travelling with her forces. Still, there wasn’t much he could do. For now, Lumi accepted that. "Fine. I’ll also make some preparations."

Seyen turned to leave, then paused. She looked back at Lena one more time. "How did you do it?"

Lena tilted her head. "Do what?"

"Kill Kise with a bomb." Seyen’s tone was blunt. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Lena’s grin returned, wider than before. "Don’t worry about that part, cutie~"

Seyen stared at her. Lena was acting more and more like a pixie. Acting all cute and complementing the appearance of another was a common tactic

Lena giggled. "You don’t really expect me to answer, do you?~!"

"..."

Seyen said nothing. Her business was already concluded with them. She turned and teleported away. Her lieutenants followed immediately.
