Chapter 158: Chapter 158 - To Fight!

Kise recognized Lena as a priest immediately. She had seen humans with such a class before. An extremely dangerous breed of human, because it meant they were at Rank Two. Priests were cultivated by an enemy of all Pixies.

Merath.

Due to that, she had made sure to memorize the traits of these particularly dangerous humans. She knew that priests did not learn dispel at the second rank. There was no removing these debuffs.

While Kise had been casting, Lumi and Lena had already moved into action.

"Holy Arrows!" Lena’s spell launched streaking toward the pixie from the right.

Lumi positioned himself on the left. There was a wall of wood blocking his path to the pixie, open only closer to where Lena stood. "Lance of Light!" He shot his spell directly to Lena.

The lances raced towards Lena.

He then faced the wooden obstruction directly. "Light shower!"

"Tricky human!" Kise spat out, watching the attacks coming to her. Holy arrows, she understood. However, she was currently watching an enemy aim a spell at his own teammate, and another at a wall.

However, assassins attempting to kill her wouldn’t be so stupid. Somehow, the unknown spell would attempt to kill her. She would keep an eye out.

Seeing the holy arrows coming towards her, she twisted midair, her small body moving with incredible aerial precision.

She was the one that disabled constant spell usage. While the primary reason was to disable the constant heals a priest could do, the fact also remained that it severely limited the use of teleport.

Therefore she had to learn very well how to dodge. She banked sharply upward, one arrow passing harmlessly beneath her. She shifted in sudden movements to the left, then right, then a mid-air flip, perfectly dodging all the attacks.

She watched as the lances that were about to hit Lena suddenly course corrected, avoiding the wall entirely and curving around to hit her. "I knew it!" She began analyzing the pattern of attack.

The lances had a light homing effect. Therefore she had to beat the homing effect by positioning herself in such a way that it cannot course correct in time. She locked in.

Left. Right. Left. Right. Turn and flip.

"Nghh!" She underestimated the speed and turning of the spell, ending up with her skin getting scraped at various parts.

Right as she finished dodging, a sudden unexpected blow shot through her. "Gah-" Her eyes shifted to the direction. The wall.

The male magician’s spell could invisibly pass through walls.

She spun in the air, reorienting herself with a vicious grin, and raised her wand. "Flame Burst!"

A wave of fire exploded outward from her position, expanding rapidly in all directions. The heat hit Lumi and Lena immediately, searing the air around them.

Lumi’s eyes widened. "Teleport!"

He and Lena simultaneously teleported away, each to different destinations both equally away from the burst.

Kise grinned wider, exposing her sharp teeth. She licked them. She knew they couldn’t teleport again for five seconds. She shot forward like a bullet with her claws extended, diving straight at Lumi with murderous intent.

She closed the distance in a fraction of a second, her claws slashing toward his throat in a vicious arc.

Lumi tilted his head sharply to the side. The claws passed close enough that he felt the displaced air brush his skin. He stepped back smoothly, shifting his weight, and the follow-up strike missed by inches.

Kise’s eyes widened slightly. She hadn’t expected that.

Bowmen and thieves dodged like that. Not a magician!

When it came to magicians, they panicked, they stumbled, they died.

She slashed again, a wild horizontal arc aimed at his chest. Lumi twisted his torso, letting the strike pass by his ribs. He raised his wand in the same motion. "Lance of Light!"

The lances formed and shot forward at point-blank range toward her face.

Kise teleported.

She reappeared directly behind Lumi, "DIE!" She slashed her claws at him.

Seeing him entirely still, she let out a grin. The silly human didn’t even realize he was about to die...

Her eyes suddenly widened. "NO!" She jumped back hurriedly as a void sphere tore up from the ground below, tearing through her previous location.

She kept her eye on Lena too, calculating. The human mage was better than expected. And the priest hadn’t panicked either.

From Lumi teleporting to now, it had merely been three seconds.

Lena hadn’t been idle. There were several casts of holy arrows already about to hit.

The arrows launched upward in a tight cluster. Kise’s wings beat hard, and she weaved through them with precision. Left, right, tilting her body at sharp angles. But the volley forced her to reposition, pulling her attention away from Lumi entirely.

Lumi seized the opportunity. "Void Sphere."

Being in Light Mode, Lance of Light was stronger. Technically.

Shot at this range, however, Kise would dodge it as she did before. He needed something that would force her to teleport.

The orb materialized instantly and shot toward her. Kise saw it coming at the last second and teleported again.

"Three seconds!" Lumi called out the information for Lena. "She can teleport at least every three seconds!"

Kise snarled and raised her wand immediately. "Dim!"

The light in the entire space faded dramatically. The only illumination came from faint traces of ooze on the walls, barely enough to see.

Lena squinted, trying to track Kise’s position. She could barely see Lumi a few feet away, and Kise was now a shadow, her small form blending into the darkness.

If Lena tried to cast from range now, she risked hitting Lumi by mistake.

She gritted her teeth and moved forward. She couldn’t stay back anymore unless she planned to be useless, doing nothing.

Kise focused.

Pixies were not nocturnal. Their night vision was just as bad. But it was fine. Her physical attributes were much higher than the magicians, she had practiced for this.

The enemies’ spells were very bright, and this would be seen.

This was with Void Sphere as an exception, and perhaps other unknown dark spells. She would keep her mind on that.

She dove at Lumi again from an angle he couldn’t see clearly slashing down toward his neck with lethal precision.

Lumi saw the movement just in time. He jerked back hard and twisted his body. Even through his mana shield, the claws grazed his shoulder, tearing through cloth and skin in a spray of blood.

He immediately raised his wand. "Void Sphere!"

The orb materialized between them. Kise hissed in frustration and pulled back sharply, teleporting away to avoid being consumed.

Lumi exhaled sharply, his shoulder bleeding freely. Kise reappeared to his left in a blur of motion, slashing again before he could fully react.

He dodged, but the follow-up caught him across the forearm, her claws raking deep.

[HP -54]

Another slash came immediately, slicing at his head. He blocked it with his wand, and the two were locked in a contest of strength for less than a second before he was forced to jump back and cast a new void sphere between them to dodge. Kise retreated, but she kept coming.

Slash. Slash. Slash.

Each one landed, each one chipping away at his health.

"Grrr" Lumi lightly groaned. He had to break out of the deadlock fast. He glanced at his health, seeing it about half way depleted.

Lena finally reached close enough to see clearly through the dark. She raised her wand without hesitation once she was sure she had the right target. "Heal!"

[HP +184]

A wave of restorative light washed over Lumi. His wounds closed partially as his health jumped back up, but it wasn’t nearly enough. The anti-heal curse reduced the effectiveness drastically, and she couldn’t cast it again for another five seconds because of the Law of Repetition.

Kise grinned through the darkness, her teeth visible even in the low light. She lunged at Lumi again, her claws aiming for his throat in a killing blow.

Lumi stepped back, then vanished entirely. "Teleport!"

He reappeared near Lena. "Void Sphere!" He immediately turned to Lena. "Lena, I need you t-"

Kise took the opportunity immediately. She raised her wand high, her voice ringing out. "Poison Mist!"

A thick, toxic fog erupted from her position, spreading rapidly through the confined space. The green cloud rolled toward Lumi and Lena, filling the air with noxious fumes that stung their eyes and throats.

Kise was also affected by her own toxic fog, but she did not mind. She had learned that there was no such thing as a perfect battle. Only acceptable ones.

Before they could react or retreat, Kise cast again. "Air Impact!"

An invisible force slammed into Lumi’s chest, not dealing damage but knocking the air completely out of his lungs. He gasped involuntarily, his body forcing him to inhale against his will.

The poison filled his lungs in an instant.

[Debuff Applied: Poison]

[HP -20 per second for 0:30]

Lumi’s vision blurred at the edges. His chest burned like fire, and he coughed violently, tasting blood.
