Master, Your Wife Has Become a Super Star Through Fortune-Telling-Chapter 168 - 169: Su Nian’s Strength
Su Nian continued dragging that lumpy thing, the sound grating along the ground. Under the night sky, her pitch-black eyes were, for some reason, hard to look at directly.
But Qing Ran’s eyes were wide with anxiety. ’Where in the world did this little girl come from?!’
But his grim-faced companion held him back. If you looked closely, you could see his hands were trembling slightly.
Su Nian’s ears twitched, and a smile played on her lips. She was incredibly close to the zombies—less than a meter away.
It seemed as if the zombies’ rank stench and terrifying aura could coalesce into a giant Evil Ghost to devour her.
And yet, Su Nian walked ever closer, and the howls of the horrifying zombies grew even more excited.
Several zombies with eyes glowing an eerie red had already drawn near, and beads of sweat formed on the Daoists’ foreheads.
The zombies howled and surged forward. Even Qing Ran felt his legs go weak, but every Daoist was already clutching a yellow talisman.
"Little girl, run! Get back, go now!"
Qing Ran’s voice was firm, but a chill ran through him, and his grip on the talisman paper tightened.
He wanted to urge Su Nian to run, especially when his companion was on the verge of cursing her out.
"You idiot, get the hell out of there!"
The Daoist’s eyes were bloodshot, and his entire body trembled with agitation.
"I’ll use a talisman paper to draw the zombies’ attention!" Qing Ran said in a low voice, his body taut as he gave the order to the Daoists behind him.
They murmured in agreement but still advanced with him.
Suddenly, everything changed. The horde of zombies that had been howling as they advanced suddenly shrieked as if possessed and charged forward.
With sharp fangs, purple faces, and bizarre eyes, they looked ready to pounce and tear Su Nian to pieces at any moment.
The crowd’s hearts leaped in terror. Qing Ran, however, gave a shudder and, clutching a paper talisman, charged forward.
"If I die here today, it will be a worthy death!"
Qing Ran bellowed, his eyes glinting with grim determination. Looking as if he were marching to his death, he held the talisman paper high in one hand and brandished the Peach Wood Sword he had used for decades in the other.
He surged forward, but before he could even exhale, he froze on the spot as if rooted there.
His wide eyes and the upraised talisman paper seemed to be frozen in time.
Everyone was stunned silly. Many still had frowns of grim resolve frozen on their faces.
The twenty-some zombies had been glaring menacingly, their eyes cold and their auras unsettlingly bizarre. But in that one instant, their arms, which had been poised to strike, inexplicably snapped off and fell to the ground in a neat row.
Then, one by one, the zombies began to topple to the ground with a series of heavy thuds.
Su Nian slowly closed her eyes for a moment, still the same outrageously beautiful girl.
A gentle breeze stirred her clothes. While all the Daoists held their breath, ready to die...
...only she was like a master puppeteer, completely detached and sure of her victory. She was leisurely and casual, as if the outcome depended solely on her whim.
Her aura was indescribable. She paused for a moment. Her gaze seemed gentle, almost smiling, yet it was laced with a chilling, ruthless killing intent, as if nothing in the world could stand in her way.
With a faint smile, she dragged the thing forward step by step. With every step she took, more zombies collapsed. Some were even groveling on the ground, trembling uncontrollably.
They were all like prey that had spotted their natural predator, cowering and inching backward. With heads hung low, they actually gave off the air of cowards, a far cry from their frenzied shrieking and wailing from moments before.
Su Nian lifted her eyelids slightly, glancing indifferently at the wretched creatures. Her expression was haughty, her posture so arrogantly domineering that one couldn’t help but feel an urge to submit.
She took a single step forward, and the horde of zombies scrambled a step back. The situation was now the complete opposite of what it had been before.
Even Su Nian hadn’t expected it. ’These wretched things actually know what’s good for them.’
She saw that all the Daoists now wore identical expressions of horrified stupor.
Su Nian maintained her arrogant demeanor. "I didn’t expect these wretched things to have a shred of self-preservation."
"Miss—ah, no, Fellow Daoist! Y-y-you, get back here!" Qing Ran shouted, snapping out of his daze.
The others also seemed to snap out of it. They barely had time to marvel at their incredible luck—running into such a master in a place like this—before wiping the cold sweat from their brows.
Standing in the back, Master Jin’s face was blank, his mind slow to catch up. He kept replaying the memory of Su Nian’s effortless grace when she had saved him, comparing it to her current display of power. ’Could Su Nian truly be a living Heavenly Venerate?’ he couldn’t help but wonder.
The other Daoists were also left gawking at the scene, completely dumbfounded.
If the zombies had surrounded Su Nian and devoured her, they would have found that plausible.
After all, even if Su Nian knew a thing or two, for her to face this many zombies and reduce them to this state—with many of them groveling on the ground, trembling in fear—what in the world was going on?!
Just then, one stubborn zombie charged forward again. Qing Ran’s eyesight was sharp, and he recognized it at a glance. It was clearly a Fur Zombie!
The corpse’s body was already covered in dense white hair. Fur Zombies were notorious for their hides of bronze and bones of iron; the higher their cultivation, the tougher their bodies became. They were agile, able to leap onto rooftops and into trees as if flying. They began to lose their fear of ordinary fire, and eventually, even of sunlight.
But before his racing heart could settle, Qing Ran was shouting in alarm once more.
"Fellow Daoist, run! Qu—Ugh..."
Before the words had even left his mouth, Su Nian lashed out with a kick, a hint of seriousness on her face.
Her arrogant smile was jarring, yet her stunning beauty made it impossible to look away.
With a THUD, the zombie was sent flying. Before it could even regain its footing, Su Nian flung the object in her hand at it. And just like that, it was knocked down a second time.
Even the Daoists behind her were staring in utter disbelief.
’That petite, beautiful, delicate girl is beating a Fur Zombie so badly it can’t even fight back?!’
’We must be seeing things!’
No one made a sound. Everyone seemed to have been scared witless.
The smile on Su Nian’s delicate face didn’t waver. After knocking the zombie down with that lumpy mass, she walked straight up to it.
Under everyone’s stunned gaze, she seized the so-called Fur Zombie with a single hand. Her grip was like a steel pincer, hoisting the stupefied zombie straight into the air.
She pulled her arm back, bent her body slightly, and with a loud CRACK, folded the zombie in half.
SNAP...
A crisp sound echoed, but everyone present was suddenly focused on another question.
’Can zombies even break their bones?!’
A series of snaps and cracks followed as Su Nian began to fold the stiff zombie up, bit by bit.
Su Nian shook the zombie back and forth several times before flipping it completely upside down.
A look of human-like terror even appeared on the zombie’s face, but Su Nian’s movements were swift and decisive.
After quickly folding it, she placed it on the ground and stomped on it a few times, as if to help it hold its new shape.
The zombie was now folded into a square, its spine pressed flat against the ground, emitting a sickening, grating sound of bone against dirt. A foot in a designer high heel came down to rest on its head.
All of this happened in the blink of an eye.
Su Nian, up to this point, still had the demeanor of Easy Breeze—arrogant and domineering. The moment she stood there, all the zombies and monsters dared not move, as if her very presence was an unshakeable force.
