Chapter 60: Chapter 60: WarMaster ’s precision

Rael checked his status and grimaced; he was down to a mere 11.5% aether. This fight would have been far simpler if he could use the Eye of Critic, but the beast was a full rank above him, rendering the spell useless. He turned his gaze back to the chaos of the clearing just as a barrage of fireballs slammed into the Minotaur’s flank.

BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

The beast roared in absolute rage. It reared back and hammered its massive hoof into the earth, sending forth a violent shockwave. The ground shattered, the concussive force catching Ayobe and sending her tumbling backward. Iyvre leaped into the air, her blades blurring as she delivered a series of rapid cross-slashes across the beast’s back, but she left nothing more than shallow, stinging marks on its iron-hard hide.

"What to do?" Rael’s mind raced, cycling through countless battle scenarios, but none of them ended with the Minotaur captured. Every calculated plan ended in their defeat.

His attention was suddenly snatched by an intensifying blue light emerging from the corner of the clearing.

"Xaphxan," Rael mumbled. He saw xaphxan poised to release the Thunder bolt spell ,his face twitching continuously from the electric current.

A decision formed in Rael’s mind ,a reckless one, as usual. ’I guess plans never really work for me. Just go with the flow. Yes... the flow.’

He stimulated his remaining aether, the energy burning through his veins as he tightened his grip on his longsword. His eyes lost their hesitation, replaced by a cold, serious battle light.

SHRIEK!

Just as the blue bolt of lightning whistled through the air toward the Minotaur, Rael threw himself forward, sprinting towards the minataur

BOOM!

ROAR!

The thunderbolt exploded squarely against the Minotaur’s back. The beast’s massive frame spasmed violently, trapped in a state of paralysis as high-voltage currents coursed through its nervous system.

At that exact moment, Rael closed the distance , swinging his sword in a savage upward slash, initiating the Blood Rend technique. However, instead of releasing the red arc, he forcibly contained the energy within the steel, turning the sword into a red sharp laser. The sword carved a deep, jagged gash across the Minotaur’s chest, as a fountain of thick, dark blood spilled onto the grass.

The Minotaur grunted in agony, its animalistic instinct overriding the paralysis for a split second as it lashed out with a devastating kick toward Rael’s position. But Rael had already anticipated the strike; he pivoted his body ,sliding to the beast’s flank and slashed again, but his sword only managed to leave a shallow white mark on the iron-like hide.

Just as the beast’s defense held, Iyvre appeared like a ghost and with lethal precision, she slashed at the exact same spot Rael had just struck. Weakened by the previous blow, the hide gave way, her blade piercing deep into the dense muscle and drawing out another spray of blood

Huff.

With a sharp intake of air, the Minotaur thrust its massive hand forward, claws outstretched to snatch Iyvre from the air. But before its fingers could close, a shimmering blue sphere of wind slammed into its chest, the concussive force shoving the beast backward. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

The opening gave Rael and Iyvre just enough time to scramble away and put some much-needed distance between them and the beast.

As he retreated, Rael rapidly analyzed their last successful exchange. It was clear now: the Thunderbolt spell hadn’t really caused damage;but it had momentarily compromised the creature’s iron-clad defenses. He realized that without the perfect timing of Xaphxan’s bolt, his own blow would have been useless and even with that synergy, the wounds they had inflicted were far from lethal.

"Nice... it seems we just made it angry," Rael hissed.

The Minotaur unleashed a primal roar so powerful the very air began to vibrate. A physical shockwave of sound coursed through the clearing, the pressure was so intense that Rael felt a sharp, stabbing pain in his eardrums. Clearly the minataur finally saw Rael and friends as a real threat.

"It’s eyes! Try to blind its eyes!" Yasmin yelled from the canopy.

And as she shouted, she flung a handful of tiny seeds toward the forest floor, while whispering tiny bits of incantations. The moment the seeds touched the earth, they pulsed with green light and erupted into foot-wide roots that lashed upward like striking snakes. The thick vines coiled around the Minotaur’s massive limbs, attempting to anchor the beast to the spot.

But the minataur was far too strong. With a grunt of raw power, it shrugged its shoulders and flexed its arms; the heavy roots snapped like brittle dry twigs, unable to contain its Rank 2 strength for even a second

But the brief struggle with the roots bought Ayobe the time she needed. She unleashed a volley of sharp projectiles aimed directly at the beast’s eyes, but the Minotaur reacted with animalistic instinct, lowering its head causing the projectiles to shatter against its powerful horns, sending splinters flying in every direction.

Enraged, the beast grappled a massive tree to its flank, the roots groaning as it ripped the trunk clean from the earth. With a violent heave, it tossed the improvised projectile directly at the charging duo. Iyvre didn’t hesitate; she lashed out with her white-hot runic blade, slicing the flying tree into two jagged halves that tumbled into the woods behind them.

But the distraction had served the beast’s purpose. Rael’s eyes widened as the Minotaur slanted its back and rammed forward with explosive force. It moved with such astonishing speed that the air seemed to crack, leaving Rael no room to pivot or dodge.

BAM!

"Shit," Rael spat, a mouthful of blood across the ground as the impact was cataclysmic sending him hurtling backward, his body acting as a living wrecking ball that smashed through several trees before he finally managed to plant the shattered remains of his sword into the earth. The sword acted as an anchor that brought his violent skid to a halt. Blood spilled from the corners of his mouth, yet as he looked up, he couldn’t help but smile.

Even he found it twisted that he was feeling a surge of pure exhilaration through the agonizing pain burning in his chest. He tossed the useless hilt of his broken sword aside and pulled out the spare from his magic pouch. Straining against his broken ribs, he forced himself to stand, his gaze fixed on the clearing where the battle continued to rage.

"Boss!" a voice called out. Rael turned, surprised to find that the beast had tossed him exactly toward the spot where Xaphxan was hidden.

Xaphxan stared at him, his worry mounting; for he was certain his boss must have slammed his head real hard to be smiling after tanking a direct hit from a Rank 2 beast

"Can you aim for its head?" Rael’s question snapped Xaphxan’s focus back to the sparking blue orb coalescing in his numb palms.

Xaphxan gritted his teeth, "That would be hard," he answered truthfully.

"I know. Just try," Rael commanded. He checked his reserves one last time: 7% aether remaining. Growling through the hot pain in his chest, he bent his knees slightly, raising his sword above him in a high slashing stance

As Rael closed his eyes, centering himself amidst the pain, Yasmin unleashed a massive fireball, pouring the large amount of her aether into the strike. It detonated just as the Minotaur was about to trample Iyvre, who was pinned against a shattered trunk.

BOOM!

The flames roared, finally searing through the beast’s iron-like hide. Sensing the opening, Ayobe launched her curved blade with lethal precision, burying the steel deep into the Minotaur’s left eye. The beast let out a harrowing roar of pain and fury, blindly swinging its massive arm into a nearby boulder. The rock shattered, and the concussive shockwave sent the jagged remnants flying toward Ayobe but a flash of white light intervened as Iyvre slashed through the air, her runic blade cleaving the debris apart before it could reach her sister.

SHRIEK!

Just as the Minotaur tried to press its counterattack, Xaphxan’s thunderbolt shrieked through the clearing and collided squarely with the beast’s head.

BOOM!

The titan spasmed, as electricity coursed through it’s body ,In that heartbeat, Rael snapped his golden-brown eyes open now glowing with a faint, tint of red. He tightened his grip on his sword then took a single, explosive step, and unleashed a horizontal slash.

A massive red arc tore through the air, felling several trees in its wake before slamming into the Minotaur’s popliteal artery. The energy sliced through the thick vein and bone alike, severing the massive hoof clean off in one fluid motion.

MUUUUU—!

The Minotaur shrieked in absolute agony, its balance gone as its hulking frame began to tilt toward the blood-soaked earth.
