Chapter 387: Episode 41.7 Those Little Tails

While Yanyan hovered anxiously around him, Shen Yuan was fighting an internal battle. After consolidating around 75% of his body, the current of mana inside him suddenly shifted—

Straight to his womb.

Shen Yuan had learned how terrible it would be for the fetus if it got prematurely exposed to strong mana. The doctors warned him about it, and Chairman Mao and Director Song’s situation was the perfect example of it.

Miscarriage may happen if the mana in his womb becomes too much for the baby.

So, in a desperate attempt to save his little bean, the celestial fox spirit gave all of his focus and mental strength to diverting the flow of mana.

"Ah! Shit!" Shen Yuan groaned in difficulty. He undid his transformation spell to lessen the distraction, but to his surprise, it barely helped.

He was still struggling.

To be honest, Shen Yuan feels like he is a wall pushing against a flash flood. The overwhelming mana he painstakingly stored was now working against him.

"Daddy! Daddy! You okay?!" Shen Yuan heard his son’s worried questions, but he couldn’t even respond.

He is afraid that once he loses his focus, his baby will be in danger!

Seeing his Daddy in such discomfort, Yanyan immediately ran to get his phone.

He must call his Papa!

The panda was left tremblingly watching the human with nine fox tails and puffy ears. Since it mutated due to mana, Yangyang could clearly feel the frightening clash of mana coming from Shen Yuan.

The force is becoming stronger by the passing minute.

"Ahhh!" Shen Yuan moaned through gritted teeth. He tried so hard to stop the surge of mana, but in the end, he found some of it leaking into his womb.

"Shit! No!" The celestial fox spirit screamed. He felt time slow down, and countless horrible scenarios played in his mind.

However, to his surprise, reality didn’t even come close to imagination.

The leaked mana that was supposed to flood his womb disappeared!

"No! That is not accurate! It was absorbed?!" Shen Yuan gasped in shock. He lost focus, and more mana started pooling into his womb.

Like what happened earlier, Shen Yuan saw and felt the absorption of mana, and the center of it all was his little bean!

"Holy shit!" The celestial fox spirit paused in wonder as he felt his baby siphon his mana.

The previous prodding danger he once felt was replaced by disbelief and relief.

Shen Yuan observed for some time, trying to see if there were hidden dangers if he let his little bean suck the mana flowing into his womb... But nothing happened, and to his surprise, he actually felt better?

Shen Yuan simply can’t think of a way to explain it.

He just feels recharged, like he didn’t exhaust his mental strength, and the physical discomfort he used to have disappeared like magic.

It’s as if the shackles that pulled him down crumbled to pieces.

It’s weirdly satisfying!

"Who would have thought that my attempt to unlock my powers would instead unleash the little glutton in my womb?" Shen Yuan whispered, slowly opening his eyes. A languid, doting smile played around his rosy lips.

Since there seemed to be no harm, he finally let go of the mental wall he put up to stop the mana.

The baby seemed to like it because the comfort he felt became even more pronounced.

Now that he was done meditating and he confirmed that his baby was safe, Shen Yuan looked around in search of his other baby.

"Yanyan?" Shen Yuan called.

The room stayed silent—save for the frightened panda watching him.

Shen Yuan heard a shuffling sound. Yanyan tearfully came in, his smartphone in hand.

"Daddy!" Yanyan immediately threw his little body at Shen Yuan.

Shen Yuan protectively caught him using his tails and wiped the boy’s fat tears.

"I was scared, Daddy! I thought something horrible went wrong with your training... I-I—" The five-year-old cried miserably in his omega father’s arms.

"Nothing bad happened to Daddy," Shen Yuan coaxed his boy. He stood up and spun around to demonstrate that he was fine.

"It’s just that your baby sibling gave us a big surprise." He mysteriously explained to his son. "Your baby sibling turned out to be a glutton."

"Huh?" Little Yanyan rubbed his nose, confusedly tilting his head to Shen Yuan’s way.

Shen Yuan laughed at his son’s cuteness. "Don’t overthink it, son. Just know that your Daddy and baby sibling are okay."

Yanyan pouted his lips and nodded. "As long as everything is okay, Yanyan is happy..."

The little boy hugged his Dad’s neck, and that was when Shen Yuan heard the voice coming from the smartphone.

"Yanyan, who were you talking to on the phone?"

"It’s Papa," Yanyan looked at Shen Yuan with eyes so innocent they looked like they belonged to angels.

"Oh, shi—" Shen Yuan froze in panic. With how strict his husband was about his health, if Bai Tingfeng misunderstood this situation, who knew what chaos would follow?

And so, the celestial fox spirit scrambled to answer the phone, hoping to save his tails from any future trouble.

"How was the baby?"

In the end, Shen Yuan found himself checking into his Ob-Gyn’s clinic.

Accompanied by his son and his insistent worrywart of a husband, Bai Tingfeng, Shen Yuan went for a thorough check. They needed a professional’s advice to better handle this new change in Shen Yuan’s pregnancy.

The doctor moved the transducer over Shen Yuan’s gel-slick stomach. The three of them held their breath, watching as the blurry shapes on the ultrasound machine’s screen sharpened into something recognisable.

"The baby is growing fine."

Only when this statement dropped did Shen Yuan, Bai Tingfeng and Yanyan sigh in relief.

Yanyan made a silly dance, hopping towards his Daddy. "Yanyan is so happy! Nothing bad happened to my baby sibling! Yey!"

He fawningly rubbed his face on his Daddy’s hand and looked at the screen. This is his first time seeing a fetus. He was very curious what his baby sibling looked like.

And he was at a loss...

It looked so tiny, and the shape was weird...

"Daddy, why does my baby brother look like an alien?" The boy asked, pure of childish innocence and curiosity.

It made not only the parents but also the doctor laugh.

"That’s because your baby sibling is only nine weeks old. He or she is still developing. In the coming weeks, their beauty will unquestionably show. Your parents are both good-looking. Yanyan is also cute and handsome. It stands to reason that your baby sibling will be cute too!"

Hearing praises for his entire family made Yanyan smile like a dork.

"Hehehe." He shyly burrowed half of his face on his Daddy’s arm before taking a peek again.

"Daddy! Papa! Look, there’s a tail. My baby sibling inherited your tail!" The boy pointed out, hoping that the people’s attention would shift away from him.

And it somehow worked. Shen Yuan and Bai Tingfeng looked at the ultrasound again.

It is also fortunate that the doctor overlooked the last part about the "inherited tail."

"Son, I think that is the umbilical cord." Bai Tingfeng answered. "That brings the food or nutrients that your baby sibling needs."

The alpha encircled the umbilical cord on the screen using his finger, but Yanyan shook his head.

"That’s not what I meant, Papa."

Bai Tingfeng was confused. If that is not it, then what is he referring to?

On the other hand, Shen Yuan squinted his eyes. Trying to see clearly through the grainy image of his kid.

And there, he noticed it...

"Doc, do you know what these things are?" Shen Yuan stretched his arms and pointed at the three squiggly lines that appeared to be connected with the fetus’s back.

The doctor stiffened. But then, he quickly maneuvered the transducer to get a better look.

"These are... tails?!"

The professional seemed to be as surprised as the second-time parents.

The scenes that followed gave Shen Yuan a strong sense of déjà vu. His doctor called all the powerful obstetricians and gynecologists in their hospital, and they convened regarding the "tails" discovered through the ultrasound.

Honestly, Shen Yuan kind of hated this. It makes him feel like a dressed-up monkey in the carnival. But since his condition was indeed weird and out of this world, they really needed the collective insights of the professional.

"Although the fetus was still not fully formed, the presence of the three little tails led us to believe that the baby would be born as an awakener— or to be specific, a heteromorphic awakener." In the end, the head of the OB-GYN Department told the couple what the doctors concluded based on the facts.

"Heteromorphic awakeners develop non-human physical traits the moment their abilities awaken," the head doctor explained with a smile. "They change from ordinary-looking humans into ones with wings, scales—sometimes all sorts of features connected to their powers. Tails, like the one your baby has, are actually quite common among heteromorphic awakeners. It just appeared a little earlier than usual, but there’s no need to be alarmed."

Bai Tingfeng was surprised upon learning that his child had awakened while still a fetus. But when he remembered the background of his husband, it only made sense.

"Can I pet it when he or she comes out?" Understandably, Yanyan was the most excited. But Shen Yuan was concerned about one thing.

"With these tails, will giving birth to this little booger be more painful?"
