Chapter 840: Chapter 840

The energy swirling in Rowan’s palm was not ordinary mana.

It was something older. Wilder.

Dragon Force—refined, stabilized, stripped of its drawbacks. No motion sickness. No loss of human senses. No permanent transformation.

Just power.

"If I implant a fragment that matches your attribute," Rowan explained, "it will fuse with your magic. Your spells will grow stronger. Your bodies tougher. You’ll recover faster. And if you push far enough... you’ll be able to transform."

"Transform into what?" Magna asked.

Rowan smiled faintly.

"A dragon."

Silence.

Even Luck blinked.

"You’re joking," Noelle said.

"Try it and see," Rowan replied. "Who’s first?"

Asta shot forward instantly. "Me!"

Noelle hesitated. "But you don’t have any magic..."

Asta deflated.

Rowan shook his head. "That’s not entirely true."

He placed a hand on Asta’s head and released a thread of Iron Dragon Force into him.

Asta’s condition had never been a true absence of potential. His mother’s unique body had drained his mana before birth, disrupting his development. The capacity was there—just dormant.

Dragon Force ignited it.

Mana sparked to life.

Simultaneously, Rowan transmitted fragments of Iron Dragon Slayer Magic.

Asta’s grimoire flipped wildly.

"Iron Dragon Slayer Magic: Iron Dragon’s Roar!"

His skin darkened with a metallic sheen. He inhaled and unleashed a torrent of iron.

The blast tore through the castle wall and carved a path through the forest beyond.

Asta stared at his hands.

"I have magic," he whispered. Then louder: "I have magic!"

Years of mockery. Years of compensating with muscle alone.

Now he felt mana circulating through him.

It was small—barely enough for a single spell—but it was his.

"You’re empty," Rowan said calmly, picking up a metal candlestick and handing it to him. "Eat."

Asta didn’t question it.

He bit down.

The sound of crunching metal echoed through the hall.

He swallowed.

"My mana’s recovering!"

The room stared.

That was the moment disbelief died.

Magna stepped forward next.

Rowan pressed Fire Dragon Force into him.

"Fire Dragon Slayer Magic: Fire Dragon’s Roar!"

Another explosion. A larger hole this time.

Yami’s eyes narrowed.

Magna’s attack just now had approached vice-captain levels.

"Again," Luck demanded, grinning.

Lightning Dragon Force surged into him.

The air split with thunder.

Noelle received Water Dragon Force.

The water she summoned afterward was dense and obedient, no longer volatile. She had crossed into captain-tier output in a single step.

One by one, the others followed.

Finral received Spatial Dragon Force.

Charmy, Wood Dragon Force.

Gauche, Mirror Dragon Force.

Vanessa, Fate Dragon Force.

Gordon, Poison Dragon Force.

Grey, Transformation Dragon Force.

Secre, Sacred Dragon Force.

Henry, whose draining condition Rowan had already cured, gained Golden Dragon Force.

The Black Bulls were evolving in real time.

Most would plateau around captain level for now. True dragon transformation required growth through battle.

Then Rowan faced the final two.

Lumiere.

Yami.

Lumiere received Light Dragon Force, his aura brightening yet restrained.

For Yami, Rowan reserved something else.

Black Dragon Force.

The mightiest dragon of another world.

Darkness thickened around Yami as the energy fused with his own magic.

He exhaled slowly.

"I’ve never felt power like this."

They moved outside.

"Try it," Rowan said.

Yami closed his eyes.

"Dragonize."

His body expanded, bones reshaping, wings tearing free from his back.

In seconds, a massive black dragon towered above the forest.

He took to the sky, circling once before landing with a thunderous crash.

Back in human form, he laughed.

"I could take on a hundred versions of myself."

He looked at his squad, glowing with new power.

"From today on, we’re not the Black Bulls."

He grinned.

"We’re the Black Dragons."

Cheers erupted.

Rowan watched quietly.

That should be enough.

With this strength, most threats in the kingdom could be crushed before they became crises.

Lumiere approached him later.

"No more waiting," he said. "Tonight, we go to the Eye of the Midnight Sun."

Dragon Force had pushed him back to his former peak—and beyond.

Rowan nodded. "Let’s collect what they’ve gathered."

That evening, a spatial gate opened inside the enemy base.

Rowan, Lumiere, and Secre stepped through.

Shouts rang out as patrol mages surrounded them.

Rowan ignored them, extending his senses.

He found the stones quickly.

Five magic stones embedded in a carved slab etched with intricate runes.

He opened another portal directly into the chamber.

The three of them stepped inside.

Lumiere’s expression darkened as he studied the slab.

"Devil script."

Rowan nodded.

"It’s a release array. With all ten stones, any seal could be undone."

He swept his hand, collecting the five stones.

One rested with him already.

That left four unaccounted for.

"So," Rowan murmured, "the Word Devil intends to free himself through them."

Lumiere’s jaw tightened.

"The question," Rowan added quietly, "is whether the one calling himself Licht understands that... or is being used."
