Chapter 595: Chapter 595

Rowan Mercer’s appointment as the school’s psychology professor quickly proved its value.

One by one, he helped students bring their abilities under control. Some sessions were short, others took hours, but the results were immediate and unmistakable. Even Hank McCoy benefited. With Rowan’s help, Hank no longer needed medication to suppress his mutation. He could now shift freely between his human appearance and his blue-furred form, without pain or loss of control.

Halfway through the process, the school’s supersonic jet touched down outside the grounds.

Magneto stepped off first, gripping a man who looked like he wanted to bite someone’s head off. The stranger’s language was sharp, violent, and nonstop.

"Charles," Magneto said dryly, "I brought you the history teacher you wanted. He’s got memory issues, though. You’ll need to help him sort that out."

Logan.

After returning to the school, Charles had searched William Stryker’s memories and learned what had been done to Logan under the Weapon X program. Given Logan’s role in altering the timeline years ago, Charles had never intended to leave him behind. Magneto and Raven had moved quickly, extracting Logan from Stryker’s base and bringing him home.

Two problems solved at once. A rescued mutant and a much-needed teacher.

"Logan," Charles said calmly, placing a hand on his forehead. "Try to relax."

As Charles worked, fragments of memory resurfaced. The fury in Logan’s eyes slowly dulled, replaced by wary clarity.

While Charles and Magneto spoke with Logan, Jean Grey approached Rowan.

"Professor Mercer," she said quietly, "can you help me too?"

Compared to Jean, the others’ struggles barely registered. When her powers first emerged, entire streets had been affected. Even now, with Charles’s guidance, a moment of lost control could threaten the entire school.

Rowan didn’t hesitate.

"Of course."

He placed his hand gently on Jean’s head.

Charles noticed immediately and turned his full attention toward them. Jean’s potential exceeded his own and Magneto’s combined. If Rowan could truly help her, it would change everything.

After a moment, Rowan frowned slightly.

"Jean," he said, choosing his words carefully, "your situation is complicated."

Her hope faltered.

"But not hopeless," he added.

Relief flooded her face.

Charles stepped closer. "What do you mean?"

"There are two forces inside her," Rowan explained. "One comes from her mutation. That part is now stable. She can control it. The other is... something else. It doesn’t originate from her mutation, and it can’t be controlled in the same way."

Understanding dawned on Charles. That explained why his guidance had never been enough.

"You said you can fix this?" he asked.

"I can weaken and dissolve that second force," Rowan replied. "But it will take time. And Jean has to be willing to let it go."

Jean nodded immediately.

"Yes. I don’t care how powerful it is. I just want it gone."

Rowan smiled reassuringly. "Then you need to trust me. The more you trust me, the easier it will be."

She nodded again, resolute.

Trust wouldn’t form overnight, but Rowan was patient. As Jean felt the pressure inside her slowly lessen, her confidence in him would grow. The less she resisted, the more progress he could make. A perfect cycle.

Next on his list was Wanda.

That evening, the school’s conference room filled with familiar faces. Charles Xavier. Magneto. Hank McCoy. Alex Summers. Raven Darkholme. Pietro Maximoff. Logan. Rowan Mercer.

Charles spoke first.

"Erik and I have reached a decision," he said. "We will no longer remain just a school. We are founding a mutant nation. One that stands on equal footing with human governments."

Magneto followed immediately. "And when necessary, we will make our strength known. Any nation that threatens us will face consequences no less severe than those imposed by nuclear powers."

Charles nodded, no longer opposing the idea outright.

"I agree," he said quietly. "Only when it’s necessary."

He had seen too much. Stryker’s memories. Logan’s past. The warnings from another world. Humanity might tolerate mutants, but it would never truly accept them.

A nation of their own was no longer an extreme idea. It was survival.

"I’m in," Rowan said, raising his hand first.

If this future took shape, he was more than willing to help build it.
