Marvel: Umbrella Corporation-Chapter 155: Sibling Alliance
Chapter 155 - Sibling Alliance
As Cassandra stood frozen in shock, a voice echoed beside her.
"Is it fun?"
Turning her head, she saw an Asian man with black hair standing next to her.
"Who are you?"
The man simply lifted his head, gazing at the missile in the sky with a sorrowful expression.
"Who I am doesn't matter. What you should be worried about is how you're going to survive that nuclear warhead."
"A nuclear warhead!?"
Cassandra's eyes widened in shock. She immediately looked up at the missile.
Thanks to the reminder, she swiftly extended her psychic senses over it and instantly detected the nuclear payload inside. Her face darkened.
She could burrow underground to avoid the immediate explosion, but eventually, she would have to resurface and face the radiation.
"They dare to launch a nuclear weapon first? Do they really think I won't destroy the world in return!?"
Seeing her manic expression, Adam shook his head slightly.
"You really are hopeless."
Hearing this, Cassandra lowered her gaze, scanning her surroundings before glaring at Adam, "You pulled me into a psychic realm, and I doubt it's just to have a chat.
Speak! Who exactly are you?"
"Does it really matter who I am? What matters is that your actions in this world have gone too far."
"Too far? Heh..."
Cassandra let out a mocking laugh.
"This world follows the law of the jungle. Everything I've done is simply abiding by that rule!"
"Are you sure that's what you truly believe?"
With a faint wave of his hand, Adam altered the surroundings.
When Cassandra regained her senses, she found herself inside a dimly lit chamber. In front of her sat a bald man in a wheelchair.
The bald man furrowed his brows upon seeing Adam.
"You again? When are you going to let me out?"
Adam ignored him, glancing between Charles and Cassandra.
"Both of you... One devoured your sister in the womb, and the other devoured your brother. Yet, you chose completely different paths."
Both Charles and Cassandra snapped their gazes toward each other.
"You're my sister?"
"You're my brother?"
As exceptionally gifted mutants, they had always carried an inexplicable feeling—a lingering sense that they had a missing relative. A presence they had absorbed before birth.
But the truth was too cruel to face, so they had buried it deep within their hearts.
Cassandra quickly shook her head.
"No. That's impossible. You, a crippled weakling in a wheelchair? If I truly had a brother, he would be a mutant of unimaginable power!"
Charles' face stiffened at her words, a trace of embarrassment flashing across his features.
It was true. He had lived too passively all these years. First, the Brotherhood's actions forced him to form the X-Men, playing the peacemaker to appease humans.
Then, the Mutant Registration Act had him constantly negotiating with senators, attempting to overturn the law.
Despite all his efforts, the arrival of Apocalypse accelerated the act's enforcement worldwide.
To make matters worse, he was killed by Jean. Even after his resurrection, he remained in hiding, waiting for an opportunity to act—only to be confronted by Adam instead.
In short, his life had been full of compromises and setbacks.
Adam continued, "Our world is different from yours.
In your world, you stood by and allowed Sebastian Shaw to defeat Magneto. As a result, the U.S. and Russia launched nuclear missiles, leading to the apocalypse.
In this world, Charles prevented that disaster. But the explosion left him paralyzed."
Truthfully, Cassandra hadn't been the mastermind behind that apocalypse at first. She had merely let it happen.
However, later on, she did command her followers to launch the remaining nukes—escalating the destruction to its full extent.
Hearing Adam's explanation, Cassandra suddenly burst into laughter, "Hahaha! I knew it! I should never have saved anyone. See? Good people never get good endings!"
Adam nodded in agreement.
"Indeed, being good doesn't always lead to good outcomes. And being bad doesn't always lead to punishment.
But tell me, Charles—do you regret it?"
Charles lowered his head, but his eyes held no trace of regret.
Adam smiled slightly, "Of course, he doesn't. Despite his paralysis, his students and friends are still alive.
Over time, he gained more allies and pupils.
But you...
In your world, you rule as an absolute monarch, don't you?
Are you happy?"
At the mention of happiness, Cassandra forced a smile, "Of course I am! I am the ruler of everything...!"
"Oh? And what about your friends? Your loved ones? Your family?"
Each word deepened the darkness on Cassandra's face, "Friends? Family? Why would I need those when I rule the world?"
"Are you truly happy?"
Under Adam's piercing gaze, Cassandra opened her mouth—but this time, she couldn't say the words.
Happy?
Perhaps.
At the beginning, ruling was exhilarating.
She was the queen. Everyone who remained had to obey her every command.
But as time passed, the novelty wore off.
All that was left was an endless, crushing emptiness. So she sought new thrills to stave off the boredom—killing, torture, anything that kept her entertained.
But eventually, even that lost its appeal.
No fine food or wine. No music, no movies. Every day, she saw the same few faces.
As for friends? Impossible.
The survivors feared her. No one dared to come close.
"People don't live just to become rulers or conquerors.
History has recorded countless kings and emperors. But tell me—who among them was truly happy?
So, why do people live?"
Why indeed?
Cassandra fell into deep thought. She remembered her childhood.
Her parents had never truly loved her. Her mother had even resented her, saying that if not for her, her brother would have been born instead.
Her childhood had been miserable.
No love from her parents. No friends. Just loneliness, sitting in a corner with her dolls. Even those dolls were eventually destroyed by cruel children.
Thinking about this, she suddenly glared at Adam.
"Why I live has nothing to do with you!"
The next moment, the walls and furniture around them flew towards Adam, propelled by her psychic and telekinetic abilities.
But Adam merely waved his hand, and everything instantly returned to its original place.
"Your psychic and telekinetic powers are impressive, but they are no match for me."
"Then how about with me as well?"
At that moment, Charles wheeled himself beside Cassandra.
