Martial Arts Worlds-Chapter 277: Jonathan vs. Shri
In Nightingale’s Abracadabra Castle.
"Why are they not letting my son fight?!"
Bella pressed her cheek against her fist and watched as the next round was shortly beginning.
"Heh~"
Nevaeh enjoyed some chips and then said.
"Your son has a powerful teammate. I think that Julian kid was with your son here, so they’re pretty close, I bet."
"Is there anyone powerful enough to defeat this Julian kid? If not, I won’t be able to see my son fight!"

Bella crossed her arms and pouted.
"Haha, are you sure that’s what you should want? With this, your son’s school will easily win the nationals."
"I don’t care! I want to see my son!"
Nevaeh wryly smiled at her little sister’s stubbornness, and then she had a slightly mischievous gaze.
"Well, in a few years, we do have Abracadabra’s Tournament of Champions. Our ancestors made a rule that every child of Abracadabra is allowed to participate.
"Not even our father can deny his entry. Your son is a child of Abracadabra, so he should be able to participate…"
"Are you insane?"
Bella looked at her sister with round eyes.
"What?"
Nevaeh innocently looked at her sister.
"If I invite him here, our father will lose his mind. Are you trying to get my son killed? He might be allowed to participate, but what about after the tournament? I don’t think he’ll be able to leave the island too easily…"
Bella worryingly stated, but on the other hand, she would very much like to see her son in person.
While the letters were able to ease her anxiety, nothing could compare to seeing her son in the flesh.
"It is still a few years away. I am also worried about other children of Abracadabra. Kiernan had become like a shadow over them as they were all punished for failing to beat his time in the Game…"
Nevaeh said in worry.
Her three sons, Zeus, Marco, and Kiah, had especially become very bitter towards Kiernan.
They were still grounded for one more month, and each day they were becoming more resentful towards him.
Only her daughter, Easter, who was still just a baby, managed to escape Karl-Michael’s fury.
"Hmm…"
Bella looked at the laptop absentmindedly, thinking about the future.
…
The roar of the crowd welcomed the fighters to their rings. It was the last round where they used the smaller rings.
From quarterfinals onwards, each match was done individually on the big rings for all to see.
"This time, Julian, sit down."
Coach Jin firmly pointed at the young man.
"Aight."
Julian raised his arms in surrender with a wry smile on his lips.
"We don’t have room for going easy anymore. Therefore, Jonathan, you will start. Julian next, and if it comes down to that, Kiernan will take care of the rest."
Jonathan nodded and started to mentally prepare himself, but it was clear that no one expected much from him.
He was the weakest main fighter left in the tournament.
’I can only rely on Sky Drop to surprise my opponents, but even with that, it is a big task to defeat even one of them.’
Julia and Dominic wished him luck.
At that moment, the referee arrived at the ring and asked for two teams to bring their first fighters to the ring.
In the Baobab High’s bench, Shri got up, and after a few high fives, he made his way to the ring and hopped circles on top of the smooth platform.
He wasn’t exactly uninjured, as he had started every fight so far in this nationals, and he had lost a few fights.
The hardest role was being the first fighter to step into the ring each time. It was because he was most likely going to be the most injured one from the team.
While fighting, he also had to focus on not getting injured as much as possible to continue fighting the rest of the rounds.
If he got injured too much, or so much that they had to use one of the reserve fighters, the overall strength of their team would drop.
Thus, the first fighter had a very important role!
Lastly, Jonathan entered the ring, and he softly closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
He kept doing the breathing exercises until the referee finally spoke.
"Karuza High vs. Baobab High!
"The first match shall be between Jonathan Ackers and Shri Jagadeesh Ahad!"
Jonathan slammed his eyes open and slowly moved into his fighting stance. It wasn’t the same stance he had used so far in the nationals.
This was Sky Drop stance!
Shri narrowed his gaze at that stance.
"Are the two of you ready?"
"Yes!"
"Yes!"
With two yes echoing across the ring, the referee swung his arm and blew into the whistle at the same time.
With roars of the crowd reverberating all around them, Jonathan jumped forward and reached out his hand towards Shri’s face.
It was clear that he was trying to grab him by the face.
’You think I’ll allow you to do that?’
Shri spun out of the way, narrowly avoiding Jonathan’s grasp, and then kicked him at the back of his knee.
"?!"
Jonathan’s knee trembled, and he stumbled forward, nearly falling to the ground, but before that, he turned back and punched towards Shri.
Shri backed away, leaving the range of Jonathan’s punch, and then whipped his leg at Jonathan’s knee.
Smack!
"Argh!"
Jonathan’s eyes trembled in pain.
With his strange physique, Shri was actually quite tall, and his legs were longer than normal people’s.
It made his range incredibly difficult to anticipate.
’In a frontal fight, I can’t ever defeat him. All I have is Sky Drop!’
Jonathan gritted his teeth and desperately tried to grab Shri, but he made sure that he was out of his arm’s range and kept kicking him across his body.
This was Jonathan’s ultimate weakness.
He was nothing but a one-trick pony!
With his body slowly giving out, Jonathan’s moves turned slower and more sluggish.
It was clear that Shri was intentionally targeting his knees to make him even slower, and it was working.
Jonathan couldn’t use sudden lunges anymore to try to grab Shri. In terms of strategy, Shri was winning this battle with ease!
"…"
Jonathan stayed quiet.
