Marrying My Bestie's Ferocious Brother - He Calls Me His Baby!-Chapter 208 - 207: Trying to Catch My Wife?
"Arrest them! Get them under control!"
Director Wang’s voice was sharp and piercing.
Seven or eight security personnel in uniform rushed forward with tools in hand.
Their stance suggested they were facing enemies that must be eradicated, not women and children.
"Let’s see who dares!"
Professor Liu bellowed in anger.
The normally gentle scholar suddenly erupted with an astonishing presence.
He swiftly bent down, took off his leather shoe, and used it as a weapon.
"I’m a first-level professor in the physics department! I’ll see who dares to hurt my students!"
He brandished the shoe, like an old lion protecting its cubs, blocking Lin Wan Yi.
Professor Wang was not to be outdone, grabbing the exploded iron pressure gauge from the ground.
"Come on! Come at me if you aren’t afraid of death!"
"When I was dodging bombs during wartime migration, you weren’t even born!"
The two academic titans, with a combined age of over a hundred, were determined to keep the mob away from the children.
The security personnel hesitated for a moment. These were professors; if they got hurt, no one could bear the consequences.
"What are you standing there for!" Director Wang shouted, his fat quivering, "They are accomplices! Saboteurs disrupting production! I’ll take responsibility! Charge!"
Emboldened by the director’s words, the security personnel aimed their tools at Professor Liu.
"Watch out!"
Lin Wan Yi’s eyes filled with urgency.
Without thinking, she pulled the stroller back and was about to rush forward to block.
But someone was faster.
"Bang!"
A muffled sound.
The blow landed solidly on flesh.
It wasn’t Professor Liu but Jiang Zhou.
The usually smiling technician clung to the official’s waist, taking the hit on his back. His face twisted in pain, but he did not let go.
"Sis! Run with the child!" Jiang Zhou gritted his teeth and shouted.
"Run? Where?" Director Wang sneered, "Seal off the doors! Not even a fly will get out today!"
All exits were blocked, and Lin Wan Yi was cornered.
In her arms, Gu Ning was terrified by the chaos.
"Waa—"
She cried loudly, pointing her chubby finger at Director Wang’s greasy face.
"Bad... bad man! Fight!"
The childish cries spread through the tense workshop.
The workers who hadn’t dared to speak stirred. Seeing such a small child crying heartbreakingly, and the director’s fierce demeanor, right and wrong were clear.
"Director, this... this is just a kid..." an old worker couldn’t help but speak.
"Shut up! Don’t want to work anymore?" Director Wang glared viciously. He was in too deep now; he had to shove the blame away, or he’d end up in jail!
"Grab the little one from her!" Director Wang pointed at Gu Ning in Lin Wan Yi’s arms, "That little brat isn’t good either!"
The head of security, a burly man with a face full of muscles, pushed through the crowd and stood in front of Lin Wan Yi.
"Mr. Lin, pardon me."
Though he spoke politely, his hand reached roughly for the child, without concern for the baby’s safety.
Lin Wan Yi could retreat no further.
Seeing that dirty hand about to touch Gu Ning’s face, Lin Wan Yi’s gaze turned resolute, ready to fight fiercely.
Just then.
"Whoosh—"
A sudden gust swept in from behind.
Next, a rough, calloused hand appeared out of nowhere, clamping down like a vise on the security chief’s wrist.
It stopped merely a centimeter from Gu Ning.
The security chief froze, instinctively tried to pull his hand back, but couldn’t move an inch.
The pressure was absolute.
He looked up, meeting a pair of piercingly cold eyes.
"You..."
The chief only managed a word before intense pain shot through his wrist, instantly stripping him of resistance.
"Ah!!!"
He let out a miserable scream, falling to his knees involuntarily.
The large hand did not let go, but instead pushed forcefully.
The burly man stumbled back several steps, crashing into a nearby desk with a loud bang.
The entire room fell into dead silence.
Everyone stared at the man who had suddenly appeared.
Wearing a crisp military uniform, his epaulettes gleamed in the sunlight, marking his extraordinary status.
Gu Yanshen.
Without so much as a glance at the man, he turned around, instantly retracting his formidable aura. He extended his hand, gently wiping the tears from Gu Ning’s face, then firmly shielded Lin Wan Yi and the two children behind him.
Like a mountain.
"Don’t be afraid."
These two words alone allowed Lin Wan Yi’s long-anxious heart to settle back into place.
Gu Yanshen turned around, his gaze sweeping over everyone present, finally landing on Director Wang who was trembling with fear.
"Just now."
Gu Yanshen spoke, his voice steady and powerful, "Which hand dared to lay a finger on my family?"
Director Wang’s legs trembled with fear, and a foul smell permeated the air.
He recognized the military uniform and dreaded the aura of battlefield experience emanating from this man.
"Mis... misunderstanding..."
Director Wang shakily pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket, "Captain Gu... I was just following protocol... This is a directive from higher up... I was safeguarding national assets... I have the authority to deal with any saboteurs..."
He tried to use that piece of paper to muster the last bit of courage.
"Even if you’re a military officer... you can’t interfere in local affairs... If you act recklessly... I will report you!"
The more Director Wang spoke, the more justified he felt. Indeed! He was the director! The military had no say here!
Gu Yanshen glanced at the shaking paper in Director Wang’s hand, letting out a cold laugh.
"Report me?"
Gu Yanshen waved his hand.
Outside the workshop doors, a synchronized march resonated loudly.
Two squads of fully armed soldiers rushed in, their steel rifles quickly controlling the situation.
"I suspect," Gu Yanshen’s voice was icy, "this factory is involved in intentional destruction of strategic materials production, attempting to leak vital data, and threatening the families of active-duty personnel."
With each statement, Director Wang’s face grew a shade whiter.
By the end, Director Wang was already collapsed on the ground.
Strategic materials! Although that production line manufactured civilian appliances, the cathode ray tube technology indeed pertained to critical fields! If this accusation were pinned on him, it would spell his undoing!
"Seal the entire factory!" Gu Yanshen commanded, "Cooperate with the investigation, no one is to enter or exit at will!"
"Yes!" The soldiers’ response was thunderous.
The situation was completely reversed.
Director Wang lay in despair on the ground. It was over; once an investigation commenced, all his falsified accounts and shoddy work would be exposed!
No! He couldn’t just sit there and wait to die!
Director Wang’s eyes darted around and spotted a man clutching a briefcase, trying to slip out the back door amidst the confusion.
That was his trusted accountant; the briefcase contained the account books!
Director Wang quickly signaled to the accountant. Go! Burn it! As long as the account books were gone, there would be no evidence to convict him!
The accountant received the signal, crouched low, and crept along the wall, inching towards the shadows.
The movements were subtle, unnoticed by anyone else.
Except one person.
Gu Ning, nestled in Gu Yanshen’s arms, suddenly stopped crying.
Her large, clear eyes looked over her father’s broad shoulder, fixating on the moving accountant. Her little nose wrinkled, as if she detected something distasteful.
"Ah!"
Gu Ning exclaimed, pointing her little finger towards the corner, her legs kicking restlessly in Gu Yanshen’s arms as her face turned bright red with urgency.
"Bad! Bad!"
Gu Yanshen was startled, and followed his daughter’s finger, only seeing a few bewildered workers, noticing nothing unusual.
"What’s wrong, Ningning?" He thought the child was frightened.
But Lin Wan Yi understood.
She was a mother, and she knew these twins best. If Gu An said something would explode, it surely would; if Gu Ning said something was bad, it meant there was something dirty.
Lin Wan Yi’s gaze quickly locked on to the crouched figure against the wall, moving erratically. The bulging briefcase was tightly protected by that person’s hand.
Something’s wrong!
Lin Wan Yi abruptly grabbed Gu Yanshen’s sleeve, her voice urgent and resolute:
"Yanshen! Catch that man with glasses! Ningning says there’s something wrong with him! Quick!!!
