Marrying My Bestie's Ferocious Brother - He Calls Me His Baby!-Chapter 20: The Whole Battalion Watches as Mr. Gu Gets Teased for "Spoiling His Wife"!
In the afternoon, the training grounds of the Third Regiment were sweltering with heat waves and flying dust.
"One! Two! Three! Four!"
The roar of over a hundred soldiers merged into a torrent, making one’s eardrums tingle. This was the Third Regiment’s unwavering physical training time, and today, the supervising officer was none other than Commander Gu Yanshen himself.
He wore a faded army-green vest, his bronze skin glistening with fine sweat under the scorching sun, outlining his rock-hard muscular contours. He stood there with arms crossed over his chest, silently watching from a high platform, his gaze sweeping over each soldier below like a hawk.
Two soldiers gritting their teeth doing push-ups slowed down slightly, trying to slack off and catch their breath. Gu Yanshen’s gaze fell on them as if it had physical weight.
The two of them jolted as if pricked by a needle, instantly straightening their backs, moving at a pace more than twice as fast as before, their faces turning purplish-red.
The entire training ground was silent, except for the heavy breathing and uniform shouts.
This was Gu Yanshen, the "living Yama" of the Third Regiment.
Company Commander Zhao Gang licked his dry, cracked lips, rubbing his hands as he sneaked up from the side of the platform like a thief.
"Old Gu!" He lowered his voice, elbowed Gu Yanshen’s solid arm hard.
Gu Yanshen didn’t even lift an eyelid.
"You’re something else!" Zhao Gang winked and grinned, his dark face blooming like a chrysanthemum, "You’re really deep and unassuming! Now the whole military district knows, for your new wife’s taste, Mr. Gu specially used military district logistics connections to get fresh cucumbers from a special southern channel overnight!"
He got more animated as he spoke, even gesturing with two fingers: "My wife described them to me, saying they’re so fresh you can squeeze the juice out! She was jealous, and last night she forced me to reflect for half the night, asking why, even though I’m in the army like you, I don’t have your awareness!"
Gu Yanshen finally reacted, turning his head, casting a sharp, emotionless glance at him.
Zhao Gang shrank under his gaze, but his mouth wouldn’t relent: "Don’t look at me like that, the brothers all look up to you now! Come on, share some tips, where did you learn the art of spoiling your wife? Teach us too, so I won’t be kneeling on a washboard at home all the time."
Gu Yanshen still didn’t speak, just reached out, accurately clasping Zhao Gang’s wrist that was still gesturing.
Zhao Gang’s smile froze, feeling as if an iron clamp had locked his wrist, unable to move. That force was perfect, one bit more would hurt, one bit less and he could slip out, controlled to perfection.
"Hey, hey, Old Gu, a gentleman uses words, not force!" Zhao Gang quickly pleaded. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Gu Yanshen released his hand, directing his gaze back to the training ground, though the tight jawline and the blush spreading from his neck to his ears betrayed his uneasy heart.
Just then, Political Commissar Wang Jian Country came over, hands clasped behind his back, catching this scene, jovially speaking: "Yanshen, don’t bully the loudmouth Zhao Gang. But speaking of which, I must commend you on behalf of the organization!"
Wang Jian Country walked up to Gu Yanshen, affectionately patted him on the shoulder, and earnestly said: "You see, people used to say you were like a block of ice, excellent in your work, but a concern in personal life. Now look how great! A happy family life allows for better dedication to revolutionary work! You’ve shown through your actions what a big boost a good family atmosphere is for us soldiers!"
He paused, seeing Gu Yanshen visibly uncomfortable, and his smile broadened: "I think, at the next family meeting, you should come on stage and share your ’advanced family building experience’!"
At these words, several cadre lieutenants who had been eavesdropping couldn’t hold back, bursting into good-natured laughter.
Gu Yanshen’s always stern face now appeared as if it had been scorched.
He said nothing, directly leaping off the platform, landing stably on the sandy ground. He strode over to where the combat training was under way, beckoning to a few known as the toughest fighters in the regiment.
"You guys, come at me together."
The smiles on those "tough guys’" faces froze instantly, exchanging glances, seeing despair in each other’s eyes.
In the following half an hour, the entire training ground witnessed what true "dimensional reduction strike" was.
Gu Yanshen transformed into a ferocious tiger unleashed, his moves crisp and swift to the extreme. A burly man nicknamed "Black Tower" rushed from the front, attempting a brute-force throw.
Gu Yanshen did not retreat but advanced, sinking his body at an incredible angle the moment the man closed in, precisely hitting with his shoulder.
"Up!"
A low shout.
The nearly two-hundred-pound man rose into the air like a ragdoll, drawing a parabolic arc before crashing heavily into the sand, kicking up a cloud of dust.
The entire process was as fast as lightning, filled with the beauty of violence.
Zhao Gang on the platform watched, dumbfounded, unable to resist shouting: "See that? Comrades! That’s the power of love! The commander channels his tenderness for his wife into deadly force against the enemy! The sister-in-law is our regiment’s combat power multiplier!"
The words "sister-in-law" acted like an exacting spell.
Just as Gu Yanshen chopped down another opponent’s attack, his movements froze for a fraction of a second.
And in that instant!
The third opponent’s eyes lit up, seizing the golden opportunity, pouncing like a cheetah from the side, locking his arms tightly around Gu Yanshen’s waist!
"Got him!" someone on the sidelines couldn’t help but exclaim.
However, the shout barely fell before the battle reversed again.
With his waist suddenly exerting a terrifying force, Gu Yanshen, who had been tackled, didn’t panic. Instead, using the opponent’s forward momentum, he spun around.
The ambushing soldier felt an irresistibly overwhelming force, and in the next second, his back intimately met the solid ground, stars dancing in his vision.
Gu Yanshen released his grip, stood upright, and dusted off his hands.
"That’s all for training! Dismissed!"
His voice was flat, yet to those present, it sounded like heavenly music. Everyone, including those pounded dizzy, looked at him with a mix of awe, fear, and a touch of sympathy.
Gu Yanshen left those words behind, striding out of the training ground without looking back.
He walked to the water well, grabbed a large military water bottle, unscrewed the cap, and took a deep sip. The cool well water flowed down past his throat, over his well-defined chest and abs, finally quenching the burning heat within him.
He set the bottle down, leaning on the well edge, breathing slightly.
Yet his mind uncontrollably conjured the image of the woman from this morning. She lay in bed, one dazzling white arm exposed, mischievously beckoning him with a finger. The kiss lightly brushing his cheek was softer than a feather, yet hotter than an iron brand.
And her playful "site foreman" comment.
Gu Yanshen shook his head irritably, trying to clear these chaotic images from his mind.
He straightened, picked up the water bottle, and instinctively took a step towards the bachelor quarters.
But as soon as he stepped down, his foot seemed nailed to the ground, unable to move an inch.
He stood motionless for a few seconds, then as if making a decisive decision, suddenly turned.
With quick strides, he headed towards the military district gate.
The setting sun stretched his shadow long, and his steps homeward betrayed no hesitation, even quicker than when carrying out an urgent mission, a sense of yearning unbeknownst even to himself shining through his back.
