Married To The Mad Vampire Lord-Chapter 195: Gratitude
Chapter 195: Gratitude
Rohan had felt another person sharing a link with Rav the moment he woke up. Though it hadn’t been clear, he had known the man had done something he shouldn’t have. Rohan had not questioned him when he came a while ago because he thought Rav would tell him himself, but it seemed the man was planning on keeping that part a secret.
Rav closed his eyes and opened them. "It happened impulsively, my lord. I didn’t think before I did it. The person was dying and I was there, so I—"
"You know what, I am no longer interested in this person as long as it’s not someone who would bring any trouble to my household, especially my wife. Keep your secret," Rohan said with a nonchalant wave of his hand, as he could sense from the beat of Rav’s heart that he did not wish to tell him.
That wasn’t the reason Rohan came back to meet him, anyway. He trusted Rav not to bring harm to his wife or to him, and if he had any doubt about the man’s loyalty, it had been cleared off with everything he had done to bring him back. He had helped Belle and done his possible best.
Rav stared at his master with astonished eyes at the fact that he wasn’t pressing him to tell him who it was. From what he knew from this man, he did not allow anyone working under him to carry any secret as he was always uptight and on guard as he believed anyone carrying secret was hiding it from him because they wanted to betray him, now he was waving it off nonchalantly?
"I still wish for you to be in charge and be the head of the staff in this house," Rohan said as he blew out a ring of smoke. "I won’t force it on you, but if you are willing, you can use the potion to conceal your eye color. You still have a beating heart; no one will suspect you to be a vampire."
"I am willing!" Rav exclaimed almost quickly at that suggestion. He had been in this darn chamber for far too long without doing anything unless everyone had gone to sleep because he was hiding the fact of being a night creature. If there was a way to get out and work, he was willing.
He was not used to living idly while others did his bidding for him.
Rohan’s lips pulled into a smile. "I will get the potion for you tonight, and by tomorrow, you can take charge of everything along with Gwen," he said, turning his head to stare into the burning fireplace. "I don’t like the coachman very much. Replace him when you take charge—he’s too nosy."
"I noticed that as well," Rav nodded in agreement, having observed the same thing about Ben Rufford.
After that, Rav noticed his master remain silent, still seated there as if he wasn’t done speaking. Rav stood quietly, waiting for him to say whatever else he had returned to the chamber to say, especially since he had already left a short while ago.
Rohan rose from his chair after a long moment and sighed as he flung his half-smoked cigar into the fire.
"I need you to also find a doctor to be assigned to this house. She needs a check-up," he remarked with a thoughtful look, referring to his wife. "She seems fine on the surface, but her heartbeat has changed. It’s following a rhythm I’ve never heard from her before, and it makes me think something isn’t right with her health."
Rohan had not spoken or asked how she felt because he knew his wife wouldn’t tell him, but he could hear the beat of her heart, and as much as he would like to be her doctor and treat her by reading medical books, he knew when to let a professional look into things.
Rav nodded his head. "I was going to mention it myself. With everything she’s been through, it’s only right that she sees a doctor, just in case. I’m glad you brought it up. I’ll find one tomorrow and have him registered to the house."
In every human home, there was usually a doctor assigned to the household, and since Rav had once been human, he was far better suited than Rohan when it came to speaking with them. It wasn’t that she appeared seriously ill, just the beat of her heart and the subtle shift in her breathing.
It could’ve been a reaction to the change in weather, but he wanted to make certain she was truly all right. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
With everything said, Rohan still didn’t leave. He remained standing before the fireplace, hands thrust into his pockets, and Rav began to wonder if he wasn’t done speaking yet.
"How are you doing?" came Rohan’s unexpected question, making Rav’s brows draw together in surprise.
"Um, I’m fine, my Lord," he replied with a slight bow, wondering since when the vampire had begun to care about how he was doing, or even bothered to ask.
Rohan nodded. "Good. Have you gotten to feed?" he asked again, casting a sidelong glance at Rav, who was growing increasingly uncomfortable with the strange line of questioning. Unbeknownst to him, his master was struggling to say the very words that had brought him here in the first place.
"Yes. I go out at night..."
"Hmm. Have you eaten? I mean... normal food?"
"Yes, I have." All right, this was getting more uncomfortable by the second. Rav wasn’t used to his master caring enough to ask such personal things, especially not on a regular day.
Rohan remained silent again. And after a long moment, he cleared his throat. "I should get going then," he said, though he still made no attempt to move, his feet seemingly planted before the fire.
Rav looked at him with growing concern. "Um... is there anything else you’d like me to do for you, my Lord?"
"No. Nothing. That’s all," Rohan replied. Finally, he turned to leave. But when he reached the door, he paused... then slowly turned back to look at Rav still standing in the room.
His eyes landed on Rav’s slightly disturbed expression, and something in his demeanor softened. A crooked grin pulled at his lips, and he gave a short nod, as if trying to mask whatever emotion lingered in his throat. Then, hesitating again at the door, he scratched the back of his head awkwardly and, after a small cough, muttered,
"Thank you. For everything."
And before Rav could even respond, the door was shut, and the man who had just spoken was gone.
Ever since Rav had known this man, it was the very first time he had heard him say those words. And he stood there, jaw slack, utterly stunned.
