Chapter 42: Do you want to die?

"What?" Sage asked, holding her breath as she winced in pain.

Blood was pouring from her stomach, but the sight of her father being beheaded in front of her was the most painful.

Cyrus was exhaling heavily, his blue slit gaze fixed on her flashing with silver. "He is not your father." He whispered, took a long step towards her, and snatched her into his arms.

Sageโ€™s heart skipped a beat. Her teary eyes were filled with confusion and pain.

What did he mean by that? Her father was not her father? What exactly was going on? She didnโ€™t understand anything! Why did her father stab her?

"What are you on about?! You just murdered my father! Let me down now!" Sage screamed angrily and began to struggle from his arms.

Cyrusโ€™ gaze was fixed on her face, unblinking as she struggled, but he held her tightly, making sure she didnโ€™t fall out of his arms. His gaze hardened as she struggled and cried.

His gaze was drawn to her bleeding stomach, where he could see blood pouring nonstop, soaking her clothes and then to her burned arm.

"Sleep, my dear Sage." He spoke calmly, and she immediately stopped screaming and grabbed his collar. "Not forever." He drew her closer, making sure she was comfortable on his chest.

Sage whimpered as her heart clenched and her wounded stomach ached. She could not believe it, she realised she was finding comfort in Cyrusโ€™ soothing voice.

She asked, her face buried in his chest. "What is going on? What did I do to deserve all of this? Why... Why did my father stab me?" Her questions were muffled, but Cyrus could hear them clearly.

Cyrusโ€™ expression softened. "You will be fine; you have me." He muttered.

Sage felt herself slipping into darkness. Was she hearing him? Was it Cyrus who was speaking?

She pulled away from his chest and looked at him, only to see him staring at her unblinkingly, his blue slit eyes transforming into their ice blue form.

"I have no one; you are taking everything and everyone away from me." Her words were barely audible. She wanted to scream but couldnโ€™t.

Sageโ€™s lips parted, but words didnโ€™t escape her throat but stayed in her mind as she stared into those ice blue eyes that held strong emotions she couldnโ€™t understand.

โ€™He is in his dark state, so why are his eyes now normal ice blue?โ€™ Why is his gaze so gentle? Why do I have the impression that he is supposed to protect me?โ€™

"My king!" Arthur yelled, and the black dragon crashing into the castle let out a loud roar.

Cyrusโ€™ eyes returned to their blue slit form holding a blank void.

Sage shivered at his cold stare. What just happened?

"Do you want to die?" Cyrus inquired unexpectedly.

"Ye.."

"You will not die, not yet." He interrupted her with a deep whisper and helped her to her feet.

Sage clutched her bleeding stomach and winced in pain, almost collapsing, but Cyrus gripped her bloodied hands tightly.

"You are making me feel strange, Parrot," Cyrus said as he grabbed her by the shoulders.

Sage looked deep into those blue slit eyes that stared at her blankly.

"You murdered my father." Sage muttered, unconcerned about his words.

Cyrus made a hum. "He deserves to die." Then, without waiting for her reaction, he flicked her forehead, knocking her out.

"Very strange." He whispered and took her back into his arms, facing the direction the black dragon and his guards were fighting.

Arthur had joined the fight after not finding Sage in the kingdom and had even been wounded.

Cyrus frowned deeply and called out as the black dragon continued to attack. "Stop it and return to your kingdom right now! If you make another attack, I will not hesitate to kill you." Cyrus warned.

The black dragonโ€™s golden eyes narrowed at Cyrus, and his glare turned murderous.

Cyrusโ€™ gaze turned fierce. "You know how serious I am." Cyrus continued with a deep growl. "Leave! Right now."

The black dragonโ€™s gaze shifted to the unconscious redhead woman in Cyrusโ€™ arms. Her arms were burned and she was bleeding.

The dragon huffed and roared loudly before flying away and disappearing into the clouds.

Arthur and Victor were stunned, as were the other guards, and they all turned to look at Cyrus.

When Arthur saw Sageโ€™s condition, he exclaimed, "My queen!" Then his gaze was drawn to the headless man on the ground known as the king of Credia. "Oh no!" He gasped in terror.

"Snow," Cyrus called casually.

Snowflake sat near the castle ruins, watching the drama with boredom visible in his silver reptile eyes. He stood up and ran to the direction of Cyrusโ€™s call, staring at him as he waited for him to say something.

"Where has she gone?" Cyrus asked calmly, his gaze fixed on the nine tailed fox whose tails were swaying majestically.

During a lengthy eye-to-eye battle with the fox, an image of a woman appeared in his mind. The same woman Esteban had been pulling by the hair.

Cyrus let out a frustrated yell. "Victor! Go after her!"

Victor dashed towards Cyrus and fell to his knees, bowing his head to the ground. "Your Majesty, I am not sure what you are on about." He spoke in a terrified tone.

Cyrus closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, fighting the urge to murder his faithful companion.

"Did you notice anything unusual about the kingdom when you arrived?" He asked, his voice rising in rage.

"No, my king." Victor responded nervously.

"Did a woman approach you after Sage went into the castle?" Cyrus inquired, his voice thick with rage.

"Yes, sir, a human. Very fifthly, and smelly as well." Victor replied.

Cyrusโ€™s eyes immediately opened, revealing his rage.

He kicked Victor in the shoulder. The man flew from his spot all the way into the castle ruins, his scream of pain audible.

"That filthy human is my mother!" Cyrus thundered.
