Chapter 225: Let you go

Behind the mountain was a small town where the mages had been since Cyrus had brought them out from the land of the sea of blood. It was a comfortable town, and they were given medications for those who had become ill during their stay in the land of the sea of blood.

Unbeknownst to them, Statkus mages were gathering on the mountain, preparing to attack them.

Darren sat on a roof on one of the houses, staring at the cloudy sky. The clouds had appeared angry, but now the majority of them had cleared.

"Strange." He muttered, widening his eyes in awe.

Despite being surrounded by his own people, Darren couldn’t help but feel lonely. He missed his home, Credia and his best friends, Sage, and Katherine.

Her sighed deeply and looked down at his fingers, which were now fiddling with each other. To him, ever since Sage got married to Cyrus, his life had changed dramatically. After that, it had been nothing but chaos, and he just wanted things to return to normal. Although he wasn’t completely blinded by rage, a small part of him knew that the change was unavoidable.

"What exactly are you doing up there?" Roselle, one of the treacherous four, inquired, her gaze fixed on Darren, who was seated on the roof.

"Reflecting." Darren sighed deeply, rose to his feet, and vanished from sight, appearing in front of her.

"There are dragons here." Roselle informed him, her eyes wide with curiosity wondering what was going on with him.

"Okay? They take such good care of u..."

"These are not the ones who have been sent to look after us." Roselle cut him off and walked away.

Darren nodded slowly, rolling his eyes at her impoliteness. Roselle had always been a thorn in Sage’s side since they were kids.

Darren followed Roselle and soon arrived at the town’s camp, where he noticed three men. The first two were familiar, but the third was not, and his sun like smile gave him the creeps. It wasn’t genuine at all, especially given the power he felt from him. Dark.

Where are all the dragons this dark? Darren narrowed his eyes as he crossed his arms across his chest.

"Strong mages should cast a shield over this location." Stefan spoke sternly to Darren.

"Who are you to command us?" Darren asked, scoffing.

"A tenacious young man." Florin chuckled, his smile brightening, and he took a long, slow step towards Darren, his eyes turning into pure black dragon eyes and black scales forming on his cheeks, sending Darren and Roselle chills.

"Shadow dragon!" Roselle gasped.

Darren fists were clenched. "Do you think you can frighten me?" He asked, trying to keep the fear at bay.

The aura of this dragon was wild, wilder than expected, and it dawned on Darren that he wasn’t the type that one could mess with. He wasn’t average. Not at all.

"You will if I pluck out those eyes of yours." Florin laughed deeply, and Darren clenched his teeth. "Do as the Lord says, halfling," he said again, his smile gone and his gaze hardened.

Darren sighed, turned, and walked away.

Roselle was about to turn away when Florin grabbed her arm, causing her to gasp. When she looked at him, she saw his face look normal as before, and his smile was incredibly bright, as if he hadn’t just threatened someone a minute before.

"Earth mage... so beautiful." He chuckled cheerfully, his gaze drawn to her forest green eyes.

Roselle blinked at him, trying to figure out what was going on. The shadow dragon was obviously insane.

She jerked her hand away from him, but he drew her closer, wrapping his arm around her petite frame and pressing their bodies against each other.

Stefan and Arthur were taken aback by this. "What is he up to?" Stefan furrowed his brow.

"We should leave, Florin is well-known... He is completely obsessed with women." Arthur reported with a shake of his head.

"I can’t believe he is Reagan’s younger brother. They are so dissimilar. Then again, the ice dragon is surrounded by insane people." Stefan walked away, shaking his head.

Arthur shrugged, glancing at Florin and Roselle again, then shook his head and followed Stefan.

Roselle’s heart began pounding furiously against her chest. His eyes were a reddish brown color, filled with light and unknown darkness. She’d heard that shadow dragons were similar to demons and that even though their home had no day and only night, it was still a paradise.

"What are you doing? Let go of me!" Roselle started to struggle.

"You are unsure." Florin chuckled. "I am not going to let go of you."

Roselle froze and stared at him. "Who do you think you are?" She yelled at the top of her lungs.

"He who will take you to heaven." Roselle’s jaw dropped as Florin replied shamelessly.

"Did you get hit on the head?" She had to inquire.

"Perhaps I did." Florin muttered. "I just want to spend the night with you." He said it once more, shamelessly.

Roselle’s eyes twitched as she stared at the completely insane man in front of her. "Go find a whore. They are plentiful in this town. Keep your distance from me!" She yelled and punched him in the stomach.

Florin came to a halt as he felt the pain spread throughout his body. Earth mages were known for their formidable strength, which this woman amply demonstrated.

Roselle broke free and fled without looking back. She couldn’t believe she’d come across someone like him.

Florin groaned in pain and dropped to his knees.

Reagan arrived at the scene, followed by Darius and Mihai. He shook his head and walked towards his little brother, who was on his knees, groaning in pain with his hand on his stomach.

"What have you done now?"

"Are you my brother?" Florin found his voice.

"Florin," Reagan drewled, and Florin finally looked him in the eyes, his smile as bright as ever despite the pains in his eyes.

"I think I am in love, Brother."

Reagan’s eyes widened in surprise, as did the chief warriors behind him.

...

Back at the mansion, Katherine was pacing around in her and River’s room, thoughtfully. She wanted to go to the mages’ town, but she was afraid.

Sage had told her that while under the control of the Statkus mages, she nearly killed one of the mages. The majority of the mages would have died in the land of the sea of blood, but she hoped...

Her eyes widened and she abruptly came to a halt. "Mother?!" Her mother had to be among the mages, she reasoned.

She suddenly felt compelled to go there. She turned to face the door, but it swung open, revealing River with a faint smile.

"Would you like to go somewhere?" He inquired abruptly, almost as if he could read her mind.

She dashed towards him and hugged his arm, looking directly into his eyes, which widened slightly as a result of her unexpected hugging of his arm.

"I want to go to the town where the mages are kept because I believe my mother is there. She is the only person I completely trust, which implies that I may have given her the books I must have discovered." She spoke quickly and with pleading eyes.

"Your mother?" River’s voice was filled with disbelief, and he suddenly remembered Katherine blasted her mother back on the mountain when she was being controlled by the Statkus mages.

He hoped Valerie wasn’t in critical condition and knew that Katherine was probably correct; she must have given the books to her mother.

"Have you met her?" Katherine’s eyes widened, and River nodded slowly.

"You took me to her." He muttered and averted his gaze from hers.

Katherine could tell he was still distressed by her memory loss. He was a good person, even though she wasn’t aware of his own dark past.

She took a deep breath. "Do you think we should start over?" He raised his stunned gaze to her as she asked nervously.

"What?"

"Can we start over?" Katherine smiled at him. "Until I get my memories back."

"You don’t have to feel sorry for me," River sighed, lowering his gaze once more. "You don’t have to love me; if you try too hard, it will only hurt me more. I will let you go." His voice was deep and heavy.

Katherine’s heart clenched in response to his words. She didn’t feel sorry for him; she wanted to give their relationship a chance because she knew it would blossom. She couldn’t say she loved him as much as he did, but all she wanted was to be close to him, by his side.

"I am going to let you go." He repeated those words only to incite her rage.

"You will not do such a thing!" Katherine screamed angrily, frowned deeply, and stood on her tiptoes, pressing her lips against his.
