Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 161: Mysteries of the mages
When Arthur entered the library, he noticed Sage pacing around thoughtfully. She kept chewing her lower lip, and her fingers glowed faintly with fire.
He looked at her, curious as to what was going on in her head.
Did Cyrus say anything to her that bothered her?
Sage stopped pacing and turned her gaze to Arthur when she noticed his presence in the room.
"Are you alright?" He asked, concerned.
"How is Darren doing?" Sage abruptly inquired.
"Awake and being attended to." He replied, his gaze fixed on her.
"Does he have the strength to explore Leimpia?" Sage asked again, and Arthur nodded slowly, despite the fact that he realized at the time that Sage wanted to look for something.
"You can tell me what is going on, right?" Arthur inquired, brightly smiling.
Sage nodded slowly and approached him. "There are mages in Leimpia, and I intend to track them down." She then walked past him, tapping his shoulder.
Arthur smiled as he walked after her.
They entered a room and found Darren looking much better than he had the night before, despite the fact that he was still sick.
When he saw Sage, his eyes lit up, and he stood up and approached her. "Where am I?" He inquired right away.
"A safe place." She responded sternly, grabbing his neck just as he was about to nod at her information.
Because of her tight grip, he choked and grabbed her shoulders.
When Arthur noticed the halfling clutching Sage’s shoulders, he slapped Darren’s hands hard and he immediately let go of Sage’s shoulders.
"Where in the fuck did you learn teleportation? Who were those hooded people?" She asked through her teeth, then let go of his neck and watched him fall to the ground.
"Are you insane?" Darren yelled at her and coughed loudly, gasping for air.
"Unfortunately, I am constantly betrayed by people close to me." Sage scoffingly stated.
And your dear husband? What about Katherine? What about this one?!" Darren inquired, ending his words with a hysterical scream, pointing to Arthur, who wore a bright smile.
"Cyrus... yes and no, Katherine nearly killed but I won’t call that betrayal, and Arthur... well... he is a friend." Sage responded calmly and smirked before standing on her heels.
"Those hooded people mages, am I right?" Sage asked, her face leaned close Darren’s. "They were all earth mages who were part of the ones Katherine was protecting, but they were troublemakers and ended up pushing Katherine against the wall, prompting her to chase them away. When you escaped from Cyrus, you ran into them and recognized each other." She finished her sentence with a deep hiss.
"Perfectly correct, but nothing in that information indicates that I am a threat to you." Darren growled and clutched her wrist.
"Destruction of the dragons poses a threat to me because Cyrus is my husband and my father and brother are dragons. I am sure you have heard about Julius, Dexter, and Lianna’s betrayals."
"You pronounced those three names with venom. You have changed drastically." Darren spoke calmly even though he was extremely shocked.
"Darren, you have changed more than I have."
"I did, didn’t I? But, to be honest, I like this change."
"Why don’t you visit your family, statkus mage? What made you decide to save me, and where did you want to take me?"
As she asked her questions, Darren sniffed. "You already know how much I love you..."
"No, I don’t." Sage growled, stood up, and stepped away from him.
"Sage!" Darren screamed.
"I would like to track down the other mages." Sage muttered something.
"Do you think they are here? When did Katherine arrive here, and how did she know about here?" Darren inquired, perplexed.
"I know they are here, but I am not sure how Katherine..." Sage took a deep breath. "River!" She exclaimed, glancing at Arthur, who nodded slightly.
Sage returned Darren’s gaze, who grunted and stood up, rubbing his neck. "You have always had... a burning rage." With a chuckle, he said.
"How did you learn how to cast the teleportation spell?" Sage approached him and asked him a question.
"I learned from the earth mages. Katherine eventually discovered some ancient books belonging to the elder mages." Darren responded nonchalantly.
"Which means she had to have met Inkadon more than once!" Sage muttered, taken aback.
"Why? Katherine came across those creatures?" Darren inquired, surprised and concerned.
Sage sighed deeply and described Katherine’s encounter with Inkadon, including how she nearly killed her and unintentionally erased some of Katherine’s memories.
"This means she doesn’t even remember the spells she has most likely learned." Darren sighed exasperatedly and whispered.
Sage looked at him for a moment before placing her hand on his cold forehead.
"The potions he gave me still have an effect on my abilities." He told her, and she slowly nodded.
"I am not sure what kind of potions he gave you. I will have to persuade him to heal you." Sage said to him, then gave him a faint smile.
Darren smiled, relieved. "I am glad you still have feelings for me." He told her while holding her wrist.
Arthur reappeared and slapped his hand away from Sage’s wrist before yanking her away from him.
Sage jerked away from Arthur and glared angrily at him. "What is the matter with you?" She yelled half-heartedly.
"His Majesty instructed me to prevent you from having any physical contact with the halfling." Sage’s eyes widened as Arthur calmly told her.
"Why on earth?" She inhaled deeply after a deep growl.
’Is he being possessive, or is he worried about a halfling taking my fire core?" She rolled her eyes as she asked her thoughts.
"Sage." Arthur called.
"I need to find those mages, which means you shouldn’t report anything to Cyrus for the time being." She informed him, and he appeared hesitant.
"But.." Arthur says.
"Please Arthur." She pleaded.
"Are you afraid that he will become concerned about you?" Arthur inquired, perplexed.
"To be honest, I am not afraid because he is so unpredictable." He looked at her with concern as she replied and sighed deeply. "We are leaving tonight." She concluded and walked out of the room, not looking back.
