Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 153: Bad timing
The night came quickly for Sage and Arthur, but the increasing cold didn’t cause Arthur to think about stopping the carriage. There were on a wide road in the middle of a cold, icy forest and he was dressed warmly and was full of energy.
Sage, who was sitting in the carriage, was fiddling with her fingers. Her breathing was consistent, and her eyes were heavy. She groaned lazily and looked at the pillows at the carriage’s edge, feeling uncomfortable for having sat for so long and knowing that it would take four days or more to get to the border.
"I am going to him. He better welcome me. After all, he did say I should find him." She grumbled, narrowing her eyes at the pillows, then smiled faintly.
"You have a pure heart, arrogant parrot, and I envy you."
Cyrus’s deep voice echoed in her head, and she tilted her head to the side in confusion.
"What made him say that?" She asked, still focusing her gaze on the pillows, then pouted as she moved closer to the pillows, then laid herself, laying her head on one of the pillows.
She began to think about Katherine’s situation which couldn’t get out of her and suddenly, her mind went to Darren who she hadn’t seen ever since she brought out his true nature of being a halfling.
She let out a sigh. "I am pitiful." Then smiled faintly.
The carriage abruptly came to a halt, hurling her to the ground and landing hard on her forehead.
"What the.." She groaned, shaking her aching head and in no time, blood began to ooze from her forehead.
The horses neighed loudly and they sounded terrified.
"Arthur!" Sage let out a stunned gasp before standing up, opening the door, and leaping out of the carriage, landing on her feet.
She went to the carriage’s front in search of Arthur, but all she saw were the horses who had been set free and were running around in fear.
Sage’s eyes widened as she looked to the forest beside her, where she noticed dozens of dark green glows visible in the eerie darkness of the cold forest.
Snarls and growls echoed around her, and statkus mages emerged from the forest, excitedly looking at the fire mage.
"Bad timing." Sage sighed in annoyance.
"My queen!" She heard Arthur call from behind her and turned to see him wrestling with a statkus mage who was wielding a dagger directly at his face.
Sage’s eyes turned fiery red and she immediately blasted the repulsive creature off him then rushed towards him, helping him stand up.
"Are you okay?" she inquired, concerned.
"Yes, but you aren’t," he said, referring to the blood pouring from her brow.
"I am fine," she said as she turned to face the statkus mages who were closing in on them.
"They followed us; I guess your energy has grown stronger, making it easier to trail after you wherever you go," Arthur explained, and she sighed.
"Ioas flare," she muttered in his ear.
"Oh?" he asked, perplexed.
"I suppose we will fly then." Sage laughed and clenched her fists, and raging fire burst forth. "But first, we have to get rid of them." She said it with a sly grin.
Arthur’s brow furrowed in surprise. He then smiled, picked up his sword from the ground, and gripped it tightly. "If you say so,"
Just was about to launch at them when water whips appeared out of nowhere and slashed all of the mages present. Sage watched the mages bodies fall to the ground, their upper body detached from their lower body.
She gasped and turned to face the source of the water whip, only to see an extremely weak Darren staring at her with dead eyes.
Sage was taken aback, while Arthur frowned deeply, seeing Darren as a potential threat. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"Hello... Sage," Darren said, a weak smile on his face.
"What exactly are you doing here?" Sage inquired, trying to make sense of what was going on at the time.
"It is okay, I am not expecting a "thank you for saving my life, Darren." Trust me." He laughed as he imitated her voice.
Sage scoffed in shock. "Are you expecting a hug and a kiss?" She inquired angrily.
"Why are you so upset with me? Despite the fact that I did nothing, he abducted and imprisoned me. Did I ever hurt you in any way? I didn’t complain when you decided to marry him on the spur of the moment, did I? Look at you, so in love with that you forgot you have the flare of Ioas running through you now, and that it will make it easy for them to find you no matter where or how you hide." Darren spoke each word with distaste and disappointment while taking slow steps towards her and when he finally stopped in front of Sage, Arthur placed the sword at his neck and he raised his head out of impulse.
"Your words are so smooth, but it doesn’t change the fact that you hid your identity from I, Katherine, and every mage in Credia," Sage grumbled.
"I didn’t know! I didn’t know until you brought out my true nature. I knew nothing about statkus mages until I met..." Darren abruptly paused with a frustrated groan and unexpectedly grabbed the steel of the sword while maintaining eye contact with Sage, who gasped in shock.
Sage could see pain in his dead eyes, which were filled with tears. Not because to the steel he was holding, but because of her.
"Let it go!" she yelled at him.
"Come with me! He is only using you!" He screamed at her and leaned in close to her. "I am not a threat to you; I have no connection to those repulsive creatures, and you have no idea how much I despise myself for being... half of them." He spoke shakily through his teeth.
"Darren, let go of the steel." Sage whispered calmly, attempting to calm Darren down.
"Come with me!" He screamed at her and yanked his hand away from the steel.
In shock, Arthur yanked the sword away from Darren’s neck and stared at the blood on his sword.
"D.. Darren." Sage stuttered, staring at his bloodied palm.
"Do not worry," Darren said as he grabbed her arm with his bloodied hand.
"My queen!" Arthur called out, grabbing Sage’s hand, and they all vanished from the forest leaving nothing but a faint glow.
