Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 108: Not going to cry
Sage spent the entire day staring at the books Cyrus had given her back in Empire City.
The book contained interesting information she had never known existed, as well as information on various types of potions and how to make them.
While Ava was brushing Sage’s hair, she became intrigued by Sage’s concentration on the book.
"Your Majesty, what are you reading?" She inquired, intrigued.
"Book about potions," Sage replied, smiling.
She had just finished the last page and smiled contentedly as she closed the book and placed it on her laps.
"His Majesty is very good at potions; I believe learning from him will be more beneficial than reading." With a smile, Ava suggested while brushing Sage’s hair.
Sage’s eyes widened in surprise because she had no idea Cyrus knew how to make potions.
Could he have learned it from his nanny’s books?
That ice dragon was always surprising her.
She admired herself in the mirror, a faint smile on her face. Her emerald eyes sparkled brightly and flashed fiery red as she prepared her mind for the remaining books she needed to read.
She hadn’t seen Cyrus since he left with Ashton, and he hadn’t slept in the room that precious night. Sage took a deep breath, not expecting not having Cyrus by her side to make her feel so lonely.
Her head began to ache as scenes from Lianna’s memories flashed through her mind. Her lovely young mother, her father, Lord Rares of Elisium, he was so handsome and calm, she wished to meet him someday. She was relieved he wasn’t dead but asleep, and she vowed to become stronger than she already was in order to wake him up.
Sage’s chest tightened as the scene of her grandfather’s death flashed through her mind. She whimpered as she clutched the book in her lap.
"Those heartless beasts." Her voice was raging, and her eyes had turned a fiery red.
Ava, who was combing Sage’s her, exclaimed and took a step back as one of the strands of Sage’s her caught fire.
"My queen!" She was taken aback.
Sage blinked her eyes back to normal, stood up, letting the book fall to the ground, and dashed over to Ava, who looked startled.
"Ava!" Sage exclaimed, holding Ava her shoulders.
"I...I... I am fine, you just scared me." Ava inhaled deeply as she tried to catch her breath.
"I sincerely apologise," Sage said worriedly.
Ava smiled as she looked at Sage. "Thank you for being concerned about me."
"I..." Sage paused and laughed quietly. "You are also concerned about me." She continued and hugged Ava, who was taken aback.
"You appear so frail, almost as if you are not a dragon." She drew away, whispering and patting Ava’s back.
Ava gave a nervous smile. "I am a dragon with no beast. Except for Owen and Amelia, many of the maids are, but they are not as powerful as the guards and other dragons." Sage widened her eyes in pity as Ava replied sadly.
"I am so sorry," She bowed her head in sorrow.
Ava burst out laughing. "There is no need; his Majesty helped us and saved our lives; otherwise, we would have been killed a long time ago." Ava explained with a bright smile.
Sage nodded and turned to face Ava. "Cyrus has accomplished a great deal." She spoke slowly.
"He... he is determined to restore the kingdom to its former glory prior to the extinction of the ice dragons. I have heard he has a frozen heart, but despite this, he’s been a great ruler.. even in his... Dark state." Ava stuttered, revealing that she was terrified of Cyrus.
Sage smiled and nodded slowly. "You do not need to be afraid if you know he is a good ruler," she joked.
Ava laughed. "I can not help myself. He is a ruthless killer." She swallowed and shrugged.
Sage smiled and laughed at Ava. She thoroughly enjoyed conversing with Ava, who spoke so wisely. She decided to ask Ava some questions to which she might be able to respond.
"How has Duke Sergio been to Cyrus?" She inquired, curiously.
"He is a cautious man who is always following and serving Cyrus. I am deeply hurt that he betrayed his majesty." Ava replied, shaking her head in disbelief.
Sage nodded once more. "Can you tell me anything about Prince River?" She inquired once more.
"He is a good friend of his majesty, cheerful but stern when necessary, and a formidable warrior. He and Ashton don’t get along because Prince River despises demons. He always comes here, but I have only seen him once since his majesty married you." Ava smiled brightly as she remembered River.
Sage looked at Ava with interest while Ava was preoccupied with River. It was clear she had feelings for River. It was adorable.
"Are you well-versed with mages?" Sage inquired, jolting Ava from her reverie.
"Not at all." Ava responded by shaking her head.
"Thank you for answering my questions; I may seem odd to you." Sage said nervously, turning away from Ava, returning to her chair, and picking up the book.
"It is understandable, and I admire your strength." Ava exclaimed, and Sage gave her a faint smile.
"I am not strong, just dumb," Sage mumbled as she walked past Ava, who was stunned.
Sage approached the bed and sat on it, inhaling deeply. She clutched the book, closed her eyes, and took a slow, steady breath.
She wasn’t sure if she was strong or not. She was the most powerful mage warrior in Credia. Protecting her kingdom from dragons, the same dragons who destroyed her kingdom after she fell for a trap set by her husband and those who wanted him dead.
Her kingdom had been destroyed, the man she thought was her father tried to kill her, her aunt had murdered her mother, her aunt’s husband was exactly as she had suspected, selfish, greedy, and power hungry, and her own husband, with whom she had managed to form a stable relationship, was planning to kill her on his birthday.
Sage shook her head and laughed. "I am not going to cry." She then hugged the book and looked at Ava, who was staring at her, puzzled.
